Cannot accept "He who sent them up the river"

I saved George Kruger from a couple of goons, and now he wants escorting to safety in "He who sent them up the river". The problem is, when I click accept it does not activate the mission, it acts as though I declined it, i.e. the dialog box moves back to the 'Ask about ...' screen.
