View Full Version : Nvidia users with low FPS

Hi all,

I was faced with this issue, my 2 PC's ran just fine in closed beta, then open beta came along and things got worse regarding video lag or low FPS.

Then headstart, and it was a nightmare.

What I did, and I suggest people that have low FPS with Nvidia cards, is turn off threaded optimization in the nvidia control panel.

Manage 3D settings > Global Settings > Threaded optimization OFF.

Hope this helps some people.

Thank's for the heads up, there's already a thread about this:

Here (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=46105)

But thanks, for those who wouldn't have read the other thread.

And some people don't have that option. Older dual core that option is not avaiilable.

This didn't help me (E8400 CPU, GeForce 9600 GT video). I was getting 18-24 FPS, but a reasonably smooth look despite the low rate (this usually means that there's a bottleneck late in the pipeline, with few slow / lagged frames). The setting that made a dramatic difference for me, boosting the system up to 35-40 FPS, was setting Shadows to Low. (Medium didn't change much, if any, but Low was a dramatic difference.)

There's clearly some sort of problem with the way they're handling shadows for NVIDIA; it shouldn't be taking half the power of the system to render shadows.

I thought about switching to Low Shadows, but Low turns off almost all shadows it seems =(. Guess I could run it with them on Low until they optimize all of this.

As far as the OP, I have an 8800GT SSC and I'll have to try that out.

Right now I have textures/graphics set to 100% and I have AA at 4x or 2x, Shadows at Medium, FPS Stabilizer off, That distance fogging off and comic lines off. 1280x1024 resolution and I get FPS in the 20s, but if I go near the local hub I'm lucky to get high teens.

Does nothing for me when I turn that off. The best change I was able to make and notice a nice difference was unchecking the Ambient Occlusion setting in game.

E8400 at 3.6 ghz
Nvidia GTS 250
Windows Vista 64 at 1920x1200 resolution.

Was getting 25 FPS with threaded on or off. Turning off the Ambient Occlusion setting gets me to almost 40, with Medium shadows, and Outlining on.

m, FPS Stabilizer off,

Yours is the second mention of FPS Stabilizer that I've seen. I cannot find that setting in game. May I ask where it is in the settings please?

It's in the Troubleshooting section at the bottom of the Video options screen. You have to click on the troubleshooting bar to open those option settings up. Turniing off 'Postprocessing' and the 'Framerate Stablizer' options netted me an 8 FPS increase on my two (now) lower end 7950 GT s (in SLI mode using SFR - used the City of heroes nVidia game profile as a base since the GFX engine for this game is an upgraded version of that engine).
