View Full Version : "Hey, tell me when to block! I'm staring at his kneecaps!"

Alright, so... the old thread is archived, and I recall Rekhan mentioning they were looking into some solution, but I'd love if there was another way of seeing the onomatopoeia over a mob's head indicating I need to block.
A BOOM! under the mob portrait, perhaps?
Something. Anything.
It's annoying my DPS companions when I have to ask them in Vent if they can see the block indicator on a large mob, or if my back if against a wall to prevent a knock back. A castbar would work.
Whatever the Devs see fit. Any progress on this would be great to know.
Thanks for your time,

I agree. Something would be good.
Maybe a side bar that gives you a little mini-icon for each of the mobs that are about to smack you silly?
Freem!

Basically they are saying, "Don't play our game in 1st person." (Or fight tall things that you need to block.)
While you're at it, can somebody tell me how to change the maximum draw distances?

/Signed.
By all means keep the current block indicators for novelties sake if you have to, but please put something more practical in as well.

Just turn the edge of the portrait form a smooth circle, to a JAGGED sunburst-edged circle. Poof, indication - at least, from the one you're actually targetting.

Yes. Please fix this. Being able to see when any enemy targeting you is charging an attack would be great. Maybe have a little icon appear on the left of the screen for every incoming attack. I hate getting smacked for 3/4 of my health because some guy was behind me/hiding in scenery.

Right there, Pax, that would be simply perfect. Aesthetically pleasing as well as functional, that would be completely awesome.
Also, completely agree with Strite. This is not a request to take away the over the original indicator - over-the-head is iconic to comic books and generally a great visual cue for our ranged friends and a good majority of regular sized mobs.
Just looking for increased functionality of the indicator for our melee/tanking heroes out there.

Agreed, in tight corridors this issue crops up too. The results are both predictable and painful.

Yeah, I like to make short characters but havent yet 'cause I ran into this issue in beta. Also, I noticed last night that sometimes when enemies, especially supervillians, talk their chat bubbles will cover the block indicator.
Maybe make it so that the block indicators "stick" to the top of the screen if the player is too short to see them? Kind of like in a FPS when you're getting shot from someone you can't see you get a red flash in that direction on your screen, letting you know you need to turn around.

This is by far the best variation of suggestion to fix this issue I've seen yet. Have the schtick icon float so that it's normally above the head, but can't get pushed off the screen. Likewise for enemies beyond the "peripheral vision" and thus off the sides of your screen or behind you.
It would end up being a lot like targetting reticles (and the arrows that float at the edge of the HUD when they're off your screen) in flight sims.

I also think that is a great idea! But really anything would be better than nothing. Hope we can see this with a later patch, that would be just great!

Add my name to the petition.
Heh - I remember the EOB event...my character wasn't even as tall as a Mega's foot. NEVER saw any of the big hits coming, so even though that character was tank-oriented, had a much lower survivability than my glass cannon.

Glad you all were able to understand what I was suggesting, kind of a hard idea to explain without visuals. :p

It needs a higher priority in the render order client side...and like you all suggested some sort of flashing or indication on the mob's picture. My biggest problem is the thing always Render's behind everything else when it should take priority over damage and health bars since its incredibly important.

Is it possible to create add-ons for this game? This could easily be fixed by a nerd with some ULA knowledge and some spare time :P

I also know exactly what you're describing here, and the idea is simply brilliant. This is kind of what I had in mind more than anything, but I didn't have the description ability to nail it quite as eloquently as you have.
I'm still open for basically any solution, but this.. this would just be wonderful.
Thanks for posting, kaffis.

Yea this is actually a great idea. I know from my own exp when I'm fighting mobs I have Wall of ice and if they have a chat ballon and the Block indicator comes up I can barely see it and sometimes miss it all together.
Also another problem you run in to is mobs that are off screen. I have had boss surround me and one I have in front and the others are sort of off screen and they hit me with big moves because I can't see the block indicator over there head.

Add my name to this list. Stealth alpha strikes/charged abilities suck.
Chat bubbles need to be toggle-able. I don't need them. I have a chat log.
We need to be able to scroll our camera distance out much farther so, at least while outdoors, we can see the silly schtick indicator above a large enemies head.
Some different, UI-incorporated way of receiving tell's. There have been a couple of good suggestions previously in this thread.
In short, the system as it stands, while "cute" and "comic-booky" isn't really working (for me) in game.

Another thing is, I can't see my damage numbers against giant opponents either. I guess its not as big a deal as knowing when to block, but its pretty annoying to be staring at mega-destroid's feet and seeing nothing.
