and the game won't run. Not sure if its a bug, intentional block or if the server is down, but its driving me nuts.

Has there been any fix to this because I've been stuck at the same. I was in game last night and it was fine until I logged out with one character to log in with another. It just hung at retrieving character list. I tried resetting the game and my system several times and still the same thing. I tried it again this morning and it's still doing it.

I'm serious, this is really rediculous... It's been about 2-3 hours now and I still CAN NOT log in. I've left my computer sitting at the "Retrieving List of Characters" and still nothing. Not very happy at the moment.

Mother-effin' BUMP. Having the same problem.

I get stuck on "Retrieving List of Characters" as I log in. It was working fine, up until I was making a new character to try, backed out before making them and then tried to log back in.

BINGO!!!!! BIG POINTER FOR DEVS HERE!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure I did exactly the same thing.

Instant analysis - the db is trying to read from a null slot "held" for creation but not populated.

Players: To avoid this problem never back out completely when creating a character. Always create the character even if it is just with rubbish name etc.

Devs: To fix short term: Reset/delete allocated but unpopulated character rows (Delete * from chars where id is not null and name is null)

Devs: To fix long term: Add code to delete entry of held slot on char creation backout. Add process to delete orphaned entries on unexpected disconnect. Add check on character selection to not report/select null named character details.

Devs: To stop smart-arse bored techies like me from reverse-engineering your system: Please fix the problem so I can get back to playing :D

For me it just says "can't log into server at this time" or something like that. But it's probably because I didn't make a character yet. Cryptic is being EXTREMELY ******** by not answering these issues. I mean of course i knew lots of bugs were gonna be at the start but that's not what's annoying me. What's annoying me is that they offered nothing to make up for the lost early start AND they don't even reply to complaints... And come on how is customer support closed during the 3 days early launch? like seriously?

Come to think of it, right after I closed out making my second, incomplete character and tried to play my first, I got stuck on the "Retrieving List of Maps" screen, too.

I didn't use the Task Manager to quit, but I did use the red "X" in the corner. Windowed mode.

But yeah. Once I logged back in, "Retrieving List of Characters." That's it. I've even reinstalled the game at this point. STILL STUCK. So yeah, guys, DO NOT REINSTALL THE GAME. It won't help. :mad:

This was posted over 24 hours ago. I can understand if a solution hasn't been implemented, but at this time, this particular issue hasn't even been acknowledged in the forum. There are a bunch of posts that are getting attention, such as my in-game pet isn't working properly, but this issue makes the game completely unplayable. Any chance even the slightest bit of attention can be posted on this issue?

I have been trying to log in all weekend since this issue started. Still can't log in. I've submitted a ticket, posted on the forum and still nothing. I hope they look into this soon. I've already lost my headstart weekend, but if this problem persists I will be cancelling my lifetime subscription and fighting for my money back.

Same here, I've been down since 8pm or before, and it's already 11pm. tried to reboot, tried to verify, and still the same. I really hope it's fixed soon, I'd like to actually play on the Early Access that I paid for in preordering. Gamestop preorders offer level 1 flight and early access only.With as easy as it is to get flight on the first day, I hope I'm not screwed out of both 'extras' for preorder.

Thanks SO muchfor the reply! Just to let you know, I tried logging in again this morning and I'm still sticking at the same "Retrieving List of Characters". Hope this gets fixed soon, but I am glad to hear it is being looked into. My paranoid mind is worrying something is happening to my main character that I've been playing this weekend. :p

Well, looks like my "Head Start" Weekend was really Friday Night and Saturday morning. I came home for lunch today, still getting the Retriving character screen. What is Crypic doing about this? and how are they going to compensate the people who got screwed out of their playing time because of this bug? Would love to have our questions answered that is for sure. Let's hope and pray they get their act together soon. I mean, I pre-oredered from Game Stop just so I could get a head start weekend. I am sure as hell they don't want to hear it from the people they sold the game to about them not getting what they said would deliver. In my day, they call this sort of thing a Bait and Switch. Offer one thing and you get another.
Solution to this would be to Fix the problem, make the people happy who got screwed out of their time, and make damn sure it does not happen again. That is what we call, good customer service.

The problem I have with this is that it's not Beta right now. It's Head Start weekend. Servers go live tomorrow, September 1st. I'm already giving up on the head start weekend I was looking forward to playing (that is the main reason I ordered it when and where I did, to get a chance at the Beta and get a head start before 1 Sept.). It's going to be very bad indeed if this problem persists through the actual release (which happens in less than 24 hours).

And as of this posting, I still cannot get past the "Retrieving list of characters" screen.

Dude, I have beta tested a couple other MMO's before, and I have not seen these types of bug issues this close to a launch ever. AS for the money issue, that will be self apparent in a few days as people who are interested in this game read these boards and make an educated guess to where this game is in terms of game play.
Don't get me wrong here, I actually like the game when I could play it, but I feel it should have stayed in Beta for a longer time. I feel they used this weekend as some sort of stress testing and not really a sneak preview. And in my book, when you pre-purchased your game from Game Stop that promised a Head Start Weekend, that counts as launch day for me. If they thought the game was still to buggy to play, they should have never released it out of closed beta. :rolleyes:

It's not release day to be sure, but at head start you should at least have a working and robust login/char + map server. That's close to the most basic of infrastructures that you need for a working online game.

Even when it was working, logging out required you to restart the client, as you'd be permanently stuck on "retrieving list of characters". At best, it was annoying on our end and poor handling scripting on the char server's.

Bugs like abilities/advantages not working or unbalanced travel power (*Teleport*) happen in every MMO. Those have somehow become excusable, but when we're paying for a game, logging in is the least we should be able to expect.

well it's been over 12 hours since I was able to log in.I was hoping it would be fixed when I got up today but it's still stuck as retrieving Character list. two whole days wasted of the Head start. I'm almost about to get my preorder money back from Gamestop. I mean nothing against Crypic or this game. It's a fun game, but these bugs should have been worked out with the open beta, as Login and account is the most crucial of all bugs. I'm just not happy over all with this outcome.

You have a different problem comletely there worm , this one looks like a problem in the game DB.

Again - any ETA from the DEV team?

(Do I drop my POS in Eve or can I expect to stay in New Eden a while?)

Just started getting this error too. I tried to "delete" a couple of my characters. The character wouldn't actually delete and as soon as I chose one to play, it wouldn't load. When I then restarted my client and ever since, it sticks at "retrieving list of characters".

Bummer.

I understand that it's a serious issue, but I hope we're compensated for the loss of time on the Early Access Event and such. I mean other people are jump to Lvl 40, finishing the qualaar events and getting rewards, and we're stuck offline unable to achieve anything.

I trust them to fix it, but I just hope we're rewarded for our patience with this. After all we did preorder and pay to play this, guarenteeing that we would buy the game.

1) Some users have been down 48 hours with a server side issue.
2) This issue doesn't lock out a particular character, it locks the user out of the game entirely.
3) Issues of this nature get statements from service like "soon", where "soon" is defined in days.
4) Doesn't this game go live tomorrow?

All items are bad signs for things to come :(

Some of us bought "Lifetime Subscriptions" too (so refunds are out)

What would be really cool would be an action figure or other perk for people bugged so they couldn't log on and missed the events as a result.

A pet Qualaar would be sooooo appropriate........... :D

I understand they are busy but giving out vague answers till 10% or more of the people logging in get this problem is not they way to go about it. Like others I put down money too for the membership already in good faith and so far I am not fealing really good bout my investment.

Hopefully someone can help restore some of my faith in their product by atleast giving a more direct answer then just say yea we know its a problem, and maby give a little something for those who are missing out.

I'm locked out too, brother. I'm bummed out, but am always a bit of a pessimist with MMOs in the first few weeks of play. Some launches have been nightmarish, some have been ok, none have ever been flawless (at least none that I've played).

We'll all hold a candlelight vigil and see if the evening bears fruit.

I hope the fix is sorted soon, I had the bug a few hours in and did a similar thing to you other guys. I have been beta testing since last december and never had this to now. Next time I have a serious bug like this I'll be sure to check in the forums first. It might be worth telling your CS support guys to let us know, I wasted 3 1/2 hours - its now 2 am here - thinking it was just some flag needed resetting on my account and it would be back in a few mins.

OK off to bed, back in a few hours, gl on the fix.

Same here. I got a response and they asked me to do the same thing and also they asked me to go into the game in safe mode. That did not fix anything. I think the problem is on their side in terms of the server.

Well, I reckon the devs went to bed several hours ago. Odds on we won't see this fixed until some sensible point in the US working day, now...

A little concerned this seems to be a creeping problem, though, and will get progressively worse over time...

OK here is the update.

My support ticket that went in 12 hours ago and which I updated with specific tests I had done received a standard Our game uses ports 7000-7500 please check that these are open BS. Needless to say this is not the problem and despite bypassing both router and software firewall the issue ius identical.

Now here is why I am so annoyed at this stock response. I can still not connect for one but more than thaat.

I gave specific information that would RULE OUT a firewall issue more than 8 hours ago. I can connect here on a friends account just fine. A different friend can not connect on my account and has exactly the same problem with the ?Retrieving ...." screen.

So how about fixing the problem? More than this, how about actually reading the support ticket that was put in.

This is extremely poor customer service. As is the lack of info in the last 8 hours. I wonder what happens when 100s of thousands of new accounts open today and a similar % of those experience the issue?


I just read about the things you guys were asked to do. Ridiculous. It is OBVIOUS it is a server side problem. The sooner this is acknowledged the sooner it will get fixed. And I read someone said the dev team will have gone to bed. Not acceptable. The game is a worldwide game. So there must be 24 hour support. This is a given for this type of game. Wake up!

Perhaps the fix is done and waiting on a server side patch, which will go in at just before 10 PDT when there is downtime, presumably to switch on the new accounts and fix things such as the respec cost issues. We'll see. But if that is the case and the support team is stalling , its just not on.

Okay, it sucks support didn't read your ticket (they read mine, and I got a "Yeah, we know, we're sorry and working on it" stock response). However, as poz said earlier in the thread, they know and are working on this.

Total hunch, but the symptoms, response and time taken suggests to me they've got database corruption, and are trying to find a way of doing a partial restore from backup to recover our accounts.

I reckon they're terrified of what will happen when everyone logs in today, too, but if they don't have a fix, then they don't have a fix.

Quite likely , looks like some kind of database corruption problem. Strange how it never happened in open beta or closed beta. So some new code in there is screwing things up? Since the game went live? Well I hope that the problem starts affecting a LOT more people. At least maybe it will be acknowledged as serious. I am lucky that I got most of the headstart weekend to play in some people got almost none.

However , this does not make up fotr the time I am missing now, holiday time I can not get back and which was set aside to play.

So let us recap. Developers aware of a bug which makes the game completely unplayable and have not fixed the issue after ... I just checked that the first post in this thread was over 3 DAYS ago. This issue needs a bit more publicity.

If you didn't get the bug already, doesnt mean you won't as its not a bug at client side, its server side. So EVERYONE is potentially at risk until its sorted. If you have played OK up to now, good luck in playing next time you try to log in....

A suggestion to thos with this issue, post here and it might get some additional attention. This is no longer a bug but a customer service/support issue. 2 dev responses in 3 days and both non-specific, plus no proper feedback on a timescale or whatever..pfft. I will stop there..

It is very strange that closed beta, open beta--everything was fine. There wasn't even a patch on our side that made things quirky. It's interesting that we keep getting prodded like it was something we did. I guess that's standard tech diagnosis, though.

This definitely seems like a launch breaking bug. If a database for character creation is starting to go pear-shapped before the normal subscriber loads populate it, it makes me wonder how robust the entire system is. And if they break some sort of opening day records (people still looking for a WOW alternative, tired of WAR, eager for a new type of MMO), it could get nasty.

Just rambling for the /bump. I don't know anything, really.

Lmao, usually the "Im just rambling" part goes in before the ramble as a foreshadow xD. I understand though. I really hope this game gets a good player pop.. but honestly.. not as big as WoW.. because frankly.. I don't want another WoW lol.. I mean if it does get as big as WoW more to em for making a badass game, but i'd rather have 3 people in my squad knowing what to do, then 30 whom haven't gotten the slightest clue you know?

Not reading through all these posts but have you tried checking your firewall and allowing the game to run? After every patch I have to re-allow the game to bypas my firewall and it always hangs on the connecting screen so I know to go and do it.

I'll admit, I haven't exhaustively checked the network, but nothing obvious has changed my end, it worked fine through open beta and until last night. Others have reported being able to access okay with alternative accounts. The patcher runs fine, lets me get into the client, and only then does it stall. There's always the chance it's something strange in between my ISP and Cryptic, but I'm fairly certain it's not.

Not everyone who has this issue has posted in this thread so its not NECESSARILY just a handful of players, the lack of personal attention makes it look like a progressive issue. I'm thinking this is likely running on different hardware to the beta test so it could be a hardware related issue with the database going "****-up". If that happens it wont be a handful affected. I hope they have a good back up and facility for dealing with mass roll backs.

I suspect it's just a handful of players. Complete account lockouts across a sizable chunk of the playerbase would be a crisis, you'd be reading about it on the front page, etc. - much like the open beta patcher disaster was all over the place.

Could be hardware. The fact that it's account specific suggests to me that it's corruption of account data within the database, as in software level, though. Maybe we've all managed to pick up an item that doesn't load properly, or something.

As for not seeing it in closed/open beta, keep in mind they've got far more users. Maybe one guy hit this in closed beta, or two in open, and now they've got 10/20 instead. Easy for a "That's weird" bug to be a low priority until suddenly it bites hard a few months later.

We've certainly "sat" on a fix for a while after it went live. Last thing you want to do is tell the users it's fixed, and it turns out it's not. If it works now, great, though. Can't test from here, so we'll see when I get home.

I also get stuck at the Retrieving Characters screen, but after 5-10 minutes, it eventually works. Then, same thing with the "Retrieving list of maps" screen. I can eventually load in and combat works just fine, but I am unable to turn in any quests. Kind of frustrating.

Same for me. I had to use the "End of the World spell" (CTRL ALT DELETE) to shut down my game after being stuck loading Millenium City. Now I cant see my beautiful litle angels anymore :(

I notice this has happened before as I have also encountered this problem. It usually happens when the server has high volume from my observation. One of the reasons I absolutely hate that they only have one server. There should always be a backup so I could at least be playing an alt. Well.... I know thats not going to change but it really is annoying.

I was just thinking the same thing about a week not being able to go by without some kind of server crash. I have never once complained in the forums til now. My gf gets frustrated about these server issues and i always tell her some day we ll laugh at noobs for complaining about server issues and say "in my day, this happened alot more than it does now, consider yourself lucky." But once a week (or more!), cmon this is getting ridiculous. If phantasy star universe can have less than 10,000 active subscribers and not have these issues, so can you champions/cryptic!

Hey, same problem. Stuck at retrieving list of characters.
Its 11.30 in the evening and I've just had to two large coffee's, looking forward to playing all night, now its fking stuck!!
If they can't fix this problem I'll cancel my subscription for a month or two.

Everytime I can't connect, I hope the clouds open up and two long drooping balls lower down all the way and teabag the person responsible.

While I too am stuck at retrieving character list, I'd wager that the people who make the game work are not the same people who add stuff to the C-Store. These seem to me to be two rather different specialties. Beyond that none of us really know what's going on on their end or how difficult their job really is. It could be a cake-walk and they could just suck, sure. Or, the job could be quite complicated, time consuming, and just plain hard. As frustrating as these bugs are, getting angry to the point of insult does nothing but make you look bad. So let's be patient and give them the time they need to fix the problem.

In the mean time I'm going to go play something else.

Normally I just jump to another server but since don't have that option I jump to another MMO. Been kinda slow lately tho. Heh, at least when STO comes out I can jump between the two of them. The company focuses resources towards the C-Store that would better be spent on improving servers and hiring more server techs with talent.

Same issue. Logged out at 2am this morning. Patcher works fine, game loads into character select screen with no characters and states "Retrieving List of Characters....."

I have reinstalled. ran file checker. Booted safemode. Forwarded 70000 -75000 ports on router. Have set up my PC as DMZ. Have bypassed router into modem. Have switched from ethernet to USB to force a new IP from ISP's DHCP server.

I feel certain at this point that this all points back to Cryptic and their Server.As I said in the title;

Some Dev input would be nice.

Same thing happened with me, I was getting a huge amount of lag... ignored it... but then the lag got so bad I was removing a power in the powerhouse and it wouldn't dissapear out of the respecing menu, and I couldn't choose a NEW power... but it dissapeared out of my power list that I could actually use. eventually I couldn't even talk to the trainer anymore so I logged out, hoping to fix the lag with a fresh connection or something.

tried to log in and voila, I started getting this bug >_<

I sure hope the devs fix this bug faster then they did right after release... I was looking back and they waited all the way through the pre-launch weekend :eek:

I'm assuming they will though, saying as they already fixed the bug at one point in time - shouldn't be too hard to fix it a second time :D

-Update!-

I had my game minimized for about 20 minutes of reading through the earlier complaints on this topic and then typed my response out (you saw that part already though, so I don't need to explain that part >_>;;) and then when I maximized my game again I was at the character selection screen...

perhaps it was just a flakey connection on my end... but I'm going to knock on wood just in case :rolleyes:

:eek:No sooner than a minute after posting the above post, my character selection came up. It had been "Retrieving" for approx 10-12 minutes prior. I chose a character and it transitioned into a navy blue screen which states "Retrieving List of Maps..."

And thats all folks..

Well. I finally got in. Waiting first 5-10 minutes at retriving characters, then another 5 minutes retrieving maps.

- Inventory lag is around a minute.
- Can't talk to anyone. Messages don't get through. Nothing happens when I talk in Local or Zone.
- Combat is doable, but seems sluggish.
- XP and resources don't get rewarded until long after the fight is over. 30 secs to a minute.

This in Millennium City, City Center #11. Will test other instance and map and report back.

Same problem as all of the above. Got in 2x in the past hour and then got stuck on "Retrieving Maps"

So far for my money the game is pretty, but the focus on making bookoo bucks with C Store promos, over fixing broken mobs (Zombies) and Nemesis missions, and the stuff you know....that your ALREADY paying customers need to keep interested in giving you money. Yeah.

Please get to work, even on the weekend and fix this issue.

So... I've spent the time since my last post trying to change instance.

First I got booted to login screen due to a timeout, after having looked at the loading screen for 5-10 minutes. Then another 10 minutes retrieving characters and now I've been waiting on retrieving maps for yet another 5 minutes, and I'm still not in.

Gonna call it a night and hope it's fixed tomorrow.

I'm not going to resort to name calling, or other childish behavior... but as a fellow Software/IT person, I can tell you that the number one rule is to communicate to your customer that you're at least looking into the issue, or what the status is. It seems in all MMOs, all you ever get is this silence for hours, days, weeks... and then finally a big announcement that something has been fixed, expecting a ticker tape parade.

Communication is rule one. Just acknowledge the people that are paying your salary.

This is a very random bug, i am getting the same Retrieving List of Characters Bug as others are though I did not back out of a character creation. Game was fine yesterday, game was fine all week, it did this once before last week and now it's doing it today.

My partner on the same connection has -after a very long wait- got in and is playing, i cant, so far. Tried my other install of the game on my XP Drive it is having the same issue. Please prioritize this problem and fix it ASAP.

We pay to play, have time to play, want to play, very frustrating when we cant play. :eek:

having same problem, but once I patiently sit through all the loading screens (YAY!) I log on and try to loot something... and nothing happens... So I go through my inventory and use a few things thinking maybe my bag is full... nothing. So I sit back and fight things (works awesome) and 5 minutes later, all my inventory items that I used are used >.< Oh yeah, and I still can't loot :(

Definately some weird lag issues today. For example, my Nemesis mission spawned generic level 1 minion placeholders. It took about 3 minutes for my pet to spawn and about 5 minutes for a friend to receive a group invitation and then another 5 before we were actually "grouped". However I had no rubberbanding or visible lag issues when traveling across zones or fighting.

I really enjoy this game. I love the uniqueness of each character... in appearance and possible power combinations. For example I have a "fire" character that has heals, fear, power armor, and a robot pet. I just hope server issues/downtime don't kill this game prematurely.

Go back and check the timestamp on that dev post... that was a September update :mad:

I'm only on a trial account and this is definitely not swaying me towards purchasing the game. And yes, I understand that there will always be problems - I work a tech support job myself - but what gets me is that there isn't even a token amount of explanation/documentation for what they think the issue is or what's being done to resolve it.

"It's being worked on" is not an acceptable answer. Even if it's something as cryptic (pun not intended) as "Memory address x532j seems to be causing synergistic cascade errors in the gestalt logistics dbase so we're going to sacrifice two goats and a bull and see if that clears it up" that would go a ways towards making me feel like they're on top of things.

I am having this issue as well. Early this afternoon I was playing a newly created character until I died and rezzed. I ran back to where I was fighting and couldnt stop running no matter what I did except when holding down the back button. When I released it, started running again. Yes, I did toggle the auto run on and off thinking that might have been it.

However, I logged out and back in hoping to resolve that issue and since then have been getting the "retrieving character list" screen. I did notice that if you leave it there after some time it does finally load, but thats 10 minutes or more of waiting. I loaded my character again and was stuck at the retrieving maps screen .... watched a show while waiting and was in the game, but as soon as I made an action I was booted out for too long of inactivity ... sigh

Rinse - repeat.

lame, i was playing just fine with a new character i made. i went through the tutorial and did it all was gonna go to the desert, then the map never loaded....ultra. lame. oh well.

Stuck at retrieving list of characters and after about ten twenty minutes it gets the character but then it takes another twenty for the map to get retreived. I just got my account today wish they would have fixxed this.

Hmm, I think of all the reasons why online games are a step back from single player ones, this is the most crucial one. Sure, single player games can have any amount of bugs, they will crash, they will corrupt your save and set your cat on fire. But at least you are in control, you can go and look for more info about the problem online, maybe find a patch or failing that, work around the issue.

What you will never be doing though, is sitting like a fool, unable to even enter the damn game. After it already worked.

Dev's this "bug" should have delayed the release of the game until resolved. Losing some money to get a game breaking bug fixed is better then having your paying gamers leave on mass. As welI I except alot of them are already putting reverse payments on there credit cards for the time they've bough. I just got the game today and I'm having the same error. It's 9:25 pm local time for me. This is a long standing majour bug. If by 10:00pm local time i'm having the same issue i'll be one of those games calling up my credit card company to report a fraud payment to your company, as i've been charged to get nothing in return.

Mine's doing this too but even further, it's crashing my video driver after staying on the retrieving list of characters screen. I don't want to have to go through the fun and excitement of finding another version of nvidia drivers that dont cause the game to lag...
also just did my upgrade to windows 7 from the RC.

20 minutes to load list of toons, another 20 to load the bloody maps. Ridiculous! Not one Dev post issuing a statement on this issue that I can find. What the hell Cryptic? You would think after almost 2 full months this type of issue would be nonexistant. Not happy, obviously, just like EVERYONE else here....

An update:

We are actively working on a fix for this. We think we know what the problem is (actually there are a couple problems conspiring here) and are sorting out a fix now.

I'm very sorry that this has affected you. We'll get a fix out as soon as we can.


Well it is about time... I think we all need at least another free day of play.. or something really cool.

I'm getting the same retrieving list of characters ********. Finally got my girlfriend to try the damn game with me by giving her my 2 free weeks key from my email and now the damn thing won't work and no word from the devs whatsoever. Just server status up on the website. Thanks a lot devs wanted to switch from city of heroes to this but with this crap going on my girlfriend will never switch if yhou don't fix this crap soon. Not to mention the wasted free time. :mad:

I've been playing these games since before they had graphics, I've seen them rise and fall and sometimes not even get off the ground. MMOs have birthing pains, anyone expecting a problem free MMO at launch should probably stick with their X-Box.

That said, the unforgivable sin by Cryptic is their total lack of communication on this and most other game issues. This has been going on for hours, for some people, days. Cryptic's response? " !" For this to happen at all sucks. For it to happen on a weekend when those who can't play much during the week suffer the most, it's worse. The fact that we, the players (read: customers, i.e. people paying the bills) know, no one at Cryptic is even aware of the problem, much less working on a solution.

So far, I love this game, as long as what we've got now is the starting point as opposed to a finished product. I hope they don't drop the ball like they did with CoX, because this game really does rock even in this nascent state. The greatest game in the world can be brought down by connection issues and poor customer service however.

Unless this issue is resolved promptly, with a full explanation by Cryptic as to both what the problem was and just why they choose to remain so silent on this and many other issues, I'm afraid that the two of us will not renew our accounts at the end of our "free" month of gameplay. I strongly suggest that the rest of you consider the "incommunicado" issue when deciding to subscribe as well. Birthing pains I can deal with, a mute doctor I cannot.

I've been using champions online with the windows 7 release candidate for weeks and no problems like this till today.

For those who haven't seen it, there is now a message on the login screen that says they are having server issues, and they are working on it and will let us know when they have more information. (As the people stuck on retrieving characters won't be able to check this :p)

I am glad to see a response. I have been playing for a month and these are the first big issues I've seen with the game, so maybe not so much a need for the hand-waving freak-outery :)

There are a couple Dev replies in this thread. They're working on the problems instead of posting progress reports here. They've said it's more than 1 thing causing this issue and they're working to fix the situation.

If they're smart, the Devs who post here are leaving the folks fixing things alone so they can get things up and running instead of pestering them for the answers we all want and slowing them down.

Myself, I prefer to leave them to it and just keep an eye here for the post saying things are fixed and ready to go.

I bought this game today and thought it must have installed wrong until I got on the forums. I have about a 10-15 minute wait for logging in, as well as a 10 minute waiting loading between zones. Later tonight while I was building a second character it boots me off the server for maintenance.

This is the worst game I have ever purchased. These issues are not related to server overload, this is just poor development. I dont' care if it is new, these issues should have been fixed in beta. I can see that this one will be dead in 2010.

Okay, I have been patient... it has been over 5 hours since I was last able to log in. At this point, if you are not going to have a reliable service, you should be thinking about how you intend to compensate your customers for not providing the service they bought.

I'm not threatening, I'm just saying that this has been a way too frequent occurrence, and we are now far enough into the live game that these should not be happening so often. This sort of thing can ruin a good game (and yes, I think CO is a good game!); it will start to get a bad rep for service and that will keep others from joining and becoming paying customers. That is bad for Cryptic, Atari, and also the rest of the customers.

Please consider some sort of compensation that is in line with the large swath of customer's best time to play.

Yeah, I got the map list wait message also, and now the login seems to time out as well. Maybe the servers are just so slow we're all just timing out?

This is a bit atypical; until now when the game had a major issue Cryptic was pretty good about posting a response.

Wow, I saw this post jump from like 2,000 views to like heh what is it now? 8,000 plus in a few hours. Yeah.... I know there are ahem birthing pains and stuff but this issue has been around awhile. Like uh.... about the same amount of time the zombies in Canada just won't die issue. Think they fixed that cept in the Burial Mound area of Canada. Not gonna rant and yell cause this stuff happens but I do agree with a few of the posters that all focus should be on bugs right now and stuff like C-store and expansions can be put on hold. The same bugs shouldn't be coming up again and again at this time. Heh. Wasn't that what the Beta was for? Anyways, I suppose it could be worse. Could be the freakin patcher again. Bleh. Probly just jinxed it. Hmmm.... think I'll get some pizza in the mean time. Nom nom.

Still, there have been a few killed by the zombie bug so ya can't blame em for being a little miffed.

Oh, and btw there is a official post on the Champions Online Discussion Forum. Err.... Think they said about a 2 hour ETR (estimated time of repair) Think that was um... like at 6 pm or something. Not sure if it was PST or EST for time zone. According to Daeke, they have the fix and just need to implement it. Personally, I think they just spilled their Dr. Pepper can on the server and are trying to dry it up with a blow dryer. :)

Two months out of testing. Charging a monthly fee plus a fee for in game extras. Recived an excellent review from X Play. Beautiful screen shots and videos. I've tested more online games then most will ever play (mostly because almost hafe of them never made it past test for different reasons). An issue that makes it so a paying gamer can not play the game at all is something that has always been given the full and undivided attention of Dev's from the hundreds and hundreds of games i've tested. This is the first time I've ever seen an issue this important treated so lightly as it has with this game. This game was never stress test that much is painfully clear. If it had been this issue would have been discovered before it was released. If this game is going to make it out of this issue alive then a new test server needs to be setup. Open to the public or not doesn't matter. The test server will be setup to take the game well past it's know breaking point and leave it there watching what happens and figuring out how to fix. It's doesn't even need to be a big server but it does have to be powerful enough to exceed what the game was built to handle without breaking down it's self. It's the way online games have been tested for many years now by successful MMO/FPS/RTS online game dev's before releasing the game. One company, I will not say who, push there release date back a full year after the stress test was run and a sunomi of errors and issue came up. that company even stopped there open testing as the issue where known at the point and could be dealt with. For you Dev team this is hin sight now for me this is my first time to try this game and i have yeat to get into it to try. If can see what was done wrong in less then a day how was it missed in the year this game was being built?

I'm sure you aren't the only one having this problem but not everyone is. I've had the game freeze once, that's it. It's also only crashed once due to some kind of direct 3d error or something like that. It's something on your end that the game doesn't like.
