So far I love the game though I have to say I hope the Costume Creator is still in its Beta version, I mean the more and more characters I make the more "problems" I find with the costumes. I'm very aware that I'm an ALToholic, but lets face it more than 50% of the people playing this game are as well, and hell we all know that we want to make a superhero that looks better than the other guy's so we need as many options as possible. Here are some of the problems and issues I have with the costume creator.
Missing and Mismatched!
First of all there are a lot of costume options that are missing and mismatched, for instance there are matching gloves and boots without matching pattern and detail options or with different names. There are chest and leg (among other) pattern options available in cloth and not available in leather or metal (and possibly the other way around). Arm accessories also lack some patterns their leg counterparts have available. There are tons of accessories missing for helms and half helms (among other head slots) that are available for heads and full masks, and I mean things like spikes, many of the horns, things you would expect a medieval helm to have, and most eye accessories are not available for the tech helms when they look like they were meant for just that.
More Options!
Secondly, we need more options, truth is a lot of us came over from CoH/CoV (and another bunch are just sick of ********) and we expected to see all the costume options from CoH, CoV and more! There are so many costume options not available, or just not explored. For example there are arcane boots and gloves, even arm and leg accessories, but I'm yet to find any tights to fit the arcane style. Half masks have a very small selection of open mouth and face designs, and full masks are completely under appreciated, having patterns from half masks and nothing else. And come on three half helms, three cowls, two hoods, an insect head (among other shortcomings) I know you guys can do better. Also I have to mention the noseless, which is pretty much my favorite head option, and it gets no masks, no half mask, no full mask, I mean give the alien looking superheroes some love here, and it wouldn't hurt to have some things unique to the noseless as well.
Been Denied!
Thirdly, it feels like we've been denied some of our favorites, I mean we get it that some names can't be used and all that, even those we never heard of, or those we swear we just made up on the spot, we get it, no one likes getting sued. But what about the costumes, there are so many superheroes out there that can be an inspiration for hundreds more costume patterns, just look at the Green Lantern Corps, there is material there for inspiring well over 30 costume patterns, and another bunch of other costume items like boots, gloves, belts, head pieces and more. The black outline on the exterior of our characters and basically all items in the game world is very recognizable as a comic book style of drawing, didn't like it at first, got use to it, now love it, good job. But there is so much more potential in comic books, there is almost limitless inspiration out there, and we are so very limited in here.
Making My Point!
Honestly I feel like I've depleted most of the possible costume designs, or at least most of the ones I liked, before the game has even been released given the limited amount of costume options. If people are going to stick around for a lifetime subscriptions, or if people are expected to keep paying the monthly subscription they are going to need an incentive to keep playing and making new characters. To make up for all my whining here is a alternative idea/solution for this problem, give us an option to design our own custom costume patterns, I mean a circle or a square of a certain size, or a piece of a certain shape, placed in just the right place (determined by us) can make the difference between mediocre and superb costume!
FOR THE RECORD!
I am not bashing Cryptic designers and devs, I am only trying to do my part as a participant of the Open Beta (and early start) to tell the devs how I, and many people I've spoken to, feel about the Costume Creator issue.
