View Full Version : Radeon 4800 flashing during creation

Archived Post

I run a Radeon 4800 with Vista 64. During beta I had no problems or graphical glitches. Now that headstart has started certain costume pieces cause my video to blink on and off so that I cannot choose certain pieces. Scrolling over the pieces causes a single flash, annouying but bearable. If I do choose one of the bad costume parts and log in there is no trouble, but it will blink on the character selection screen.

TLDR: I get severe blinking during character creation from certain costume pieces.

I have the latest catalyst drivers.

Try to reinstall the game, format the PC still the same.

If that can help;

I had this problem as well with my ATI 4870 if I run the game in windowed mode. If I go full screen all is ok, so seems to be a temp-fix for now by just going full screen.

I am having the exact same problem. Serious flashing in character creation/selection making it very difficult to make a character with some armor pieces, seems to happen more with shiny metal textures. I'm running a radeon 4800 series with vista 64-bit.

Seems like a problem with Vista to me. My brother has his game running on Vista and whenever he is in the costume creator screen and change costume parts the screen flickers black and goes back to normal. It happens everytime he changes parts. I am guessing it is a problem directly related to ATI and Vista. I suggest updating your drivers to the latest drivers. Otherwise use Windows XP or Windows 7.

Above problems running windowed or full screen?

I am using Windows 7 and I had this problem too. Rotating or zooming the character would clear it up temporarily, but when I started playing I had to deal with it in the demo zone. Restarting the game has fixed it for now, but Windowed mode or Fullscreen mode made no difference.

This problem has been around for months in the beta. I have reported it over and over. It seems to be ATI cards.

Can someone over at Cryptic go buy an ATI cardset and fix this bug? Sheesh. I found out today dropping the lighting quality to "low" during character creation has helped. THen I turn it back up when playing the game.

I wonder if that is what is causing my computer to shut down during character creation. I almost have to just use random costume characters because the computer shuts down.

I have 2 x ATI radeon 4850 in crossfire. And I am running on Vista 64.

I have the same problem, however something else also occurs, some costume pieces and certain objects will have lines running off of them, like the graphics will sprout out as spokes in random directions, its really annoying, and for me its not just in character creation, its in game. I didn't have this problem in Beta, hell I didn't even have this problem launch day, but ever since yesterday, weird graphical glitches, I'm also running a Radeon 4800 series

I have the same problem, the screen flashes during creation. It's not that severe but verry annoying.

I tested on both Windows 7 and XP, it's the same. The graphics card is 4850 X2

I'm also getting the flashing during character creation. Vista 64 and a 4870 running current drivers. The other thing I noticed is that my video card is running at 99% activity during character creation and immediately after the game launches (where you choose your character). This is the only time I've seen the GPU pegged like that, rarely exceeds 50% during normal game play.

I feel better knowing so many people have this problem. Not great, but at least this means they might look into it. Below is more or less what I submitted as a bug ticket. I am running Vista with a Radeon 4570.

When I am logged in to my character, there is no color. Everything is in black and white. I saw a known color issue about getting too close to the edge of the map, but this is not it. There are also no details for any of the objects. Everything is basically a shadow. I am currently inside a powerhouse, but the graphics were fine earlier. This happens all the time now since about 3 days ago.

I can still see my character portrait, the mini-map, the text area, and my action bars. But, my character (or any one else's) or any objects in the environment are all just like black shadows. It's virtually impossible to see anything in the game.

Possibly a related issue: My screen flickers sometimes when I am in the character generation screens.

Thanks.

Edit: My graphics card for my laptop is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. In case that helps.

Same problem, I have windows 7 64 bit with an ATI Radeon 4870, drivers are current (i.e. mid August ones).

So I was just wondering if everyone who is having the Radeon card graphics issues is submitting a help ticket? Obviously they are busy right now fixing the launch issues going on, but I would hate to think our Radeon issues will go unnoticed because of a lack of tickets created. I'm not sure what the severity of this problem is for everyone else, but I can't see hardly anything in game with my Radeon 4750 card. I have the character creation screens flickering like many of you, but my in-game graphics are all messed up too. I can't play at all because I can't see a thing.

So, again everyone, be sure to create a bug ticket so they know this isn't just an isolated incident.

Thanks all!

I get the same problem at char selection screen and in game. Textures are all screwed up and can't see anything. I'm running WinXP SP3, Radeon 4890, and Cat 9.8 drivers. Doesn't matter if I'm in Windowed or full screen. Funny thing is the game ran FINE until the last patch or two. In beta a week ago in ran perfectly for me.

I believe this is fixed for me in Vista 64 by using the latest ATI drivers 9.10 ...

I had 9.9 and on character select and edit costume i would have the screen flicker black with only any metal costume parts becoming polarized...

Just started encountering this problem today - running an ATI Radeon HD 48XX series, with the 9.10 driver package (which is the most recent available) and Windows Vista 64. No difference between running full-screen or windowed.

Any news on this issue? I'm experiencing it on Vista 32bit with a ATI Radeon 4870. The game is unplayable.
