View Full Version : Server Not Responding

Okay - so I saw another thread based on this but wanted to create a new thread because their issues seemed slightly different.

Basically - I keep getting server not responding randomly after playing fine for hours. (Happens most notably right after I zone, though - maybe I get assigned to a bad/weird map server during the transition?)

What's weird about it is when it happens I alt tab and my internet is fine. So it must be the servers right? Well one time when I was having major "server not responding" issues - I asked in chat if anyone else was having problems and after the intermittent periods of it "working" and then going back to "server not responding" I got a response and they said no.

So if others in the zone are nott lagging that makes it seem less likely it is the server but as I said my internet is fine elsewhere when it happens... this is a very weird problem indeed.

Infact - one of the times it happened I had an 11ms ping with www.comcast.net... so ya...

Anyone else gettnig this/possibly have a fix?

Ya - it takes it way too long to go back go back to login wth "Disconnected from server" because it keeps trying to re-establish a connection so it doesn't interrupt your play but it seems very broken atm because I have never seen it recover without going back to login when it happens.

I'm currently experiencing the same problem. I can get to the character selection screen but when i click "Play" and it attempts to load the game, it will stop about half way and gives me the "Disconnected from Server" message. As Nabren said my internet connection is working fine and I was playing without any problems up until about two hours ago.

With this and the host of other new bugs I'm sure the Devs have their hands full. Lets hope all the creases (or at least the game breaking ones) are ironed out by launch.

Yep!! same issue here!! it makes them game unplayble.. its to unpredictable.. sometimes during a load screen sometimes while im playing in the middle of a fight!!... i like this game alot... but these lag isues are murdering any fun i could be having... I do not expiereince lag in any online games i play or Fps multiplayers. only Champions so im ruling out my internet connection or anything on my side as being the issue. and with oyu guys suffering this as well im certain.

Same situation here.
The game has been playing smoothly until today.
I get the "Server Not Responding" messages more around the time I zone. Especially when entering into buildings in Millenium city.
I usually end up logging off, or when on the loading screen - just closing the application and starting it back up again to give it another bash.
When starting the application the lag effect persists into the Launcher - having it trying to load every inch of graphic over several minutes. Eventually I'll get the play button and it loads quickly through to the character selection screen and am able to get to pick a character.
Usually if I was situated in a building (ingame), I'll get stuck on the loading screen and have to try all over again.
If I don't quit the game and let it eventually load - about 10-15 mins - I'll find my char in the building and rubber banding all over the place with the constant "Server Not Responding" diatribe. The game is unplayable and I have to kill the application.
It's getting frustrating!

Is it local? I don't think so as with any other game/application I have tried there is no indication it is a persistent problem. Web-surfing is perfect with all websites I visit. The lag is non existent beyond the game. I am finding this domain, the champions-online website and the forums very slow at the moment as well. This was not the case yesterday.

Same issues here. I played fine all friday and most of today. Now i'm just constantly ruined by the "Server Not Responding/" It happens more easily when I'm zoning but can happen for no reason at all out in town. Router reset didnt help. Reinstalling didnt help. The other crap thing is my friend sitting next to me is playing just fine and hasnt had any of these problems.

I created a new hero. Everything was fine until I got to the Project Greenskin, after completing the quest to get the radiation shield down. I got the same problem during beta. "Server not responding", and laggy play.

I've noticed that when I get 'Disconnected From Server', most of the time its because something in Champions' programming is killing the IP-link between my PC and their Server. Always during zoning and frequently on connecting. I wouldn't have thought that possible if I didn't start exiting to windows and watching my connection every time I started to zone or have log-in problems and see it happen.

Check that... to see if you are actually getting disconnected from their server at those times, I'd like to know if its just me or everyone else too.

Thanks...

Same issue here using Vista also. It's particularly bad when I zone as stated by others. I'll end up getting some bad lag and then I get this truly amazing rubber band effect where I bounce all over the place for a while. Logging out will generally help, at least for a bit, until I zone again, then I spend a while not being able to tell what is going on while I flit all over the place.

Oh and during beta this wasn't an issue at all. In fact it was no issue for the first day of headstart. It started yesterday.

My problem is with instances. I am able to play in the open world fine but when I enter instances, the server not responding text pops out and I am hanged right there and then.

Why am I getting better ping in the open with tons of players and qularr fighting but the game does not respond in small instances?

Oh that's true - I played all day Friday fine. I didn't have this happen to me until Saturday...

Also - so far everyone responding has said they are running under Vista. Can anyone confirm this happening on a different version? I am possibly thinking about running it in Windows XP compatibility mode if it keeps happening. Or maybe it needs to be run as an administrator? *shrug*

Not that it would be related too much since it's 10 years old but I was playing Diablo 2 recently and had very major and random lag spikes (latency wise) and running that in Windows XP compatibility mode fixed it. So I am wondering if there is something weird in Windows Vista network code that you have to specifically handle.

I've only had this problem since this morning, but I'm playing on XP, not Vista. It also seems to render my entire connection unstable; I can't say for sure it's causal but it seemed to cause my modem to have to reboot itself once or twice. I tried to download the game through the patcher on my Vista laptop, but the download times out in a different place every time between 3 and 9 percent.

I am running windows XP pro sp3. The lag is incredible...incredibly bad that is. I know my internet isn't the greatest but speedtests today are showing 265kbps download and 200 kbps upload that should be plenty good enough to play. I have played many other online games, and when I try to play on a crowded/heavily populated server that is when I usually experience the horrible rubberbanding/lag. Would that be a connection/bottlenecking issue maybe? ( just thinking out loud... cause in a bottleneck some people get through fine and others get crowded out...)

I am with you on that...logged an in-game ticket...they told me to log one on the website, then on the website, they told me it was a brief server problem...which is not as it is almost 100% of the time....and no news since then....

They had to learn to communicate a bit more....as a client, it's not a good start with customer service...I know the game has to be fixed, I am patient, I could wait for a fix a couple of days, maybe a week or two (they have to give me those 2 weeks of free time back...I hope they'll do or it'll be enough for me to cancel my account and never get back...)....but please, just tell us that you are working on it, give us an approx ETA...something....at least that you are aware and working on it !

Hi all,

I too am experiencing this problem, have been for the last part of open beta and throughout early start. Its getting progressively worse for me to the point where I actually cannot participate in the early start event due to the "server not responding" messages and lag.

By the time it sorts itself or I log out and back in the 30secs of qualar invasion is over. So I wait another 45 mins for the next wave and BAM sods law it happens again! Its pretty gutting, more frustrating than anything else though as its pretty unplayable for me at the moment.

I hope this gets rectified or somebody figures out what is causing the problem. Ive been toying with things my end but everything seems to be fine with my connection which leads me to believe it is a server problem.

Thanks for your time,

Kaii

I think you guys are underestimating apathy among gamers. I will, We will quit this game so fast you will think you just made City of Heroes!!! Lets not forget DC Universe is around the corner fellas.

My pc and internet has ran the top mmorpgs at max graphs w/o a problem so dont even think about telling us its a problem on our side unless you think this game has better graphics then AoC, EQ2. Iv'e been patient and ill continue to be patient but you guys CANT just give us the damn silent treatment what the hec are you thinking. Keep this up and the only gamers you will have are the 12 year olds who just wanna play dress up.

Since the game left "Open Beta" I have been having this issue. At times I will be able to play for an hour or so before getting the "server not responding" glitch and then get disconnected. However at times (like last night) I would log in and after five minutes of play I would get the "server not responding" and get disconnected. This happened repeatedly (five times in a row before I just gave up and turned off my computer and called it a night.

It is a very frustrating problem.

I am running Vista 64 and on a comcast modem/cable connection.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this problem as I said. I can go an hour or two and not have a single disconnected but then I will have five or so back to back.

I'm having the same issue. I don't have any rubberbanding or lag that I remember, but I do get frequent 'server not responding' that most of the times will send me to the login screen, although a few times it recovers after a few seconds. When I change zones there is a fair possibility of it getting stuck at 'loading', to which I have to ctrl-alt-del and kill the process as after like 3 minutes it's still there. This didn't happen to me at all in beta. Also sometimes it gets stuck at 'loading list of characters' after logging in. I'm running XP SP3 with Comcast 6/1 mbps.

Just don't get too overworked with this, it's the first days with many people going in. Is this your first MMO? The first 1 or 2 weeks are always bumpy and changing. You don't need a 'dev response', they are looking into this, be sure of that.
