View Full Version : How does 'Taunt' work please ?

Hello,

Just wondered if someone could explain how the 'Taunt' ability works for powersets like the single blade one because it has me a bit confused.

I've noticed that the very first ability you get seems to intermitantly do a 'Taunt' if the mob is not in range, and pulls them to you, but I'm finding it very hit and miss, sometimes it works at quite long range, other times it just seems to completely refuse to work at all no matter how close I get, until the mobs notice me and attack me anyway.

So, anyone got any idea how it is all supposed to work please ?

Thankyou :)

I'm pretty sure the Taunt effect has a long cooldown on it. I've used it on one enemy, killed them in just a few seconds, and had to wait like 10 or 15 seconds more to use it on the second target.

taunt is handled almost exclusively through the addition of Crippling Challenge and Challenging Strikes advantage points to certain attacks.

Challenging Strikes adds a plain vanilla threat bonus to your attack, this can only be triggered every five seconds regardless of how frequently you use attacks that have this advantage.

Crippling Challenge is an advantage that forces the enemy you attack to try to attack you for four seconds. It also grants a 20% damage debuff on the enemy for 15 seconds, this goes away if the npc is able to get an attack on the "Taunter" but is refreshed by damage from the Taunter.

The difference between the two (aside from the damage debuff) is that early on Crippling challenge gets attention quickly, but without threat to back it up, it's potentially less consistent. Challenging Strikes generates threat which persists longer than a 4 seconds taunt. Crippling challenge also costs 3 advantage points, while challenging strikes only costs one.

He is talking about "out-of-range" taunt: if a melee energy builder used on a mob out of melee range, this mob will run closer.

It does appear to be on a cooldown.

Now, do both attacks cause your opponent in PvP to drop their block? Or is it only one or the other?
