View Full Version : Nemesis Mini-FAQ

There seems to be a lot of confusion with how the nemesis system work. I've written this little mini-FAQ answering all the questions I've seen in-game and then some. Hopefully it'll be useful to someone!

Q: When do I get to create my nemesis?
A: Keep an eye on your mailbox. When you get a message from MCPD Captain Martin you know it's time. To be exact, this happens at level 25.

Q: Where is Captain Martin?
A: At the police station, a block north of the eastern side of City Hall. Since it seems hard to find, the easiest way is to fly to the eastern edge of the City Hall and then travel straight north. You'll pass over two streets (one block) and you should be greeted by the police station sign.

Q: Once I designed my nemesis and completed my first mission, how do I get more missions?
A: From time to time your nemesis' henchmen will attack. Sometimes they drop items that will lead you to further quests.

Q: I don't like the looks or abilities of my nemesis and/or his/her/its minions. Can I change them?
A: No, once the initial creation is done you can't make changes to this minion. However if you beat this nemesis you should be able to create a new one.

Q: Is there a benefit to beating my nemesis?
A: Yes, you gain nemesis points that you can use to purchase items from the nemesis vendor, available at the same police station where you design your nemesis. These can be used to buy gear, action figures and possibly other items.

Q: Will I ever outlevel my nemesis?
A: No, both the nemesis and the minions will scale with your level. It's perfectly possible to wait until level 30 or even 40 if you really wanted to.

Q: Is the nemesis system meant for group play or solo play?
A: This is primarily ment for solo advancement, but your friends and other players can definitely join in the fun. When random attacks occur anyone present will have a chance to see and experience your nemesis story.

If you have any other ideas for QA's for this post just post a comment and I can add it. Same if any of the information above is incorrect.

Once he is locked away for real.

Same here but I've read that he will escape. Plus I still am getting attacked by his minions.

I'm not sure what triggers the next event after you put your Nemesis in jail, so I'm just continuing to play until I get mail, or minions spawn, or I reach a certain level and see what happens :) It's part of the fun not knowing.

Grouping in Nemesis missions is really cool. I usually save them for when I group with my friend.

There is a thread for this ... not sure where it is.

tl,dr: Destroy stuff. That triggers them. Also some "spots" are known to bring them too.

Attacking villains has been known to spawn nemesis minions. For example, I've attacked several groups of mobs consisting of 2 villains and 1 henchman and had multiple nemesis minion spawns after defeating the villains.

I've done many nemesis missions and put my nemesis away (and he escaped). However, at level 34 I still haven't been given the option of creating a second nemesis. I've been to Defender and the cop, but they have nothing for me. And the nemesis kiosk only shows my original nemesis, but doesn't give me the option to create another.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Did he escape on his own or did Dr. Destroyer show up and help him escape? If Dr. Destroyer didn't show up to help him escape then he is still active and you must continue to fight him.

Hmmm, I don't think Dr. Destroyer appeared in that mish, so I guess I just have to be patient.

Thanks.

So all told, how many Nemeses can a single hero go through? I'd never given thought to extra villains for my hero, but I've started brainstorming. :D

I didn't get a mail on my main, but I was still able to head to the police station and make my nemesis at 25. Try heading over there.

There are a lot of questions about Nems & I think people would benefit from in-game tips like:
1) Talk to Defender
2) Talk to MCPD
3) Nemesis clues don't drop closer than every 6hrs
4) Check inventory &/or bank for clues
5) Not all clues look like clues
6) Chairs in Ren Center are magical minion summoning chairs.

Oh & the mission with the 2 robots believe it is breaking point is bugged need 3 people to complete it.

CO currently supports up to 18 different Nemesis. Only the first one goes through the Museum-TV Station-Doomsday Bomb story arc. All the rest start with breaking out of the City Prison, then follow the usual pattern of 2 outdoor missions followed by 1 indoor mission, three times, before ending at the Volcano Lair. Once you defeat the Nemesis at the Volcano Lair, Shadow Destroyer shows up and recruits your Nemesis for the League of Destruction. Then you go to the police station north of City Hall to make your new Nemesis and Defender gives you the next Prison Break mission.

They're a good way to get XP in the level 30+ range, too, since many people have a habit of doing missions high above their level and running out.

You may see your original Nemesis during the Nemesis Confrontation lair, but otherwise the answer is "No, not at this time."

However, thanks to Nemesis Confrontation, the devs now have the tech to put more than one Nemesis on a map at once, which means they now have the ability to design a lair in which you fight more than one of your own Nemeses. Eventually.

I haven't seen the Nemesis Confrontation yet, so that answers that question.

I just recently got my first Nemesis, and I am confused about one thing. I of course saw my Nemesis at the very first mission after creating her, but ever since then it's just been minions randomly attacking me, or missions where minions are doing something nefarious. I have yet to actually see my Nemesis again. Do you ever actually see your nemesis again, or is it just minions now and forever? (minions are rather weak and lame)

Minions attack & drop clues to missions that have you foil your nemesis' plans. Sometimes your Nemesis is there sometimes it's stopping minions.

6 hrs is the drop time between missions. If you have a clue you won't get another until you complete it & wait 6hrs. Minions will spawn in the mean time but won't drop clues.

3) Nemesis clues don't drop closer than every 6hrs
4) Check inventory &/or bank for clues (For people that accidentally move clues around because of tip 5)
5) Not all clues look like clues
6) Chairs in Ren Center are magical minion summoning chairs.

What you are waiting for is a drop from your Nemesis Minions which will send you to the TV station. I believe the item is a Microchip and it starts a mission, so will have the golden ! on the icon.

But for reasons which are not entirely clear, sometimes it can take a VERY long time for Minion Ambushes to drop this Microchip. I personally have experienced this, going for two weeks without getting the drop I needed to progress along the quest chain. Other reliable witnesses have reported as long as a month. But it-should- be only 6 hours.

If you have visited all the usual contacts (Defender, Martin) and there is nothing in your mail and there is nothing in your inventory, there is little you can do but wait and be patient. Pursue your other quests and stay on the ground, where your Minions can find you. Sweep the area for mobs. IT's a good time to work on 1,000 kill perks. Eventually, and it may take several days, you will get the Microchip and can then contnue with the arc. You will fight your Nemesis at the TV station. Bring a couple friends, as the mob density is high at the door to the broadcast room.
