After speaking with a call rep @gamestop, I was informed that Gamestop & Trymedia have removed any information concerning pre-order headstart from their website and they will not be able to honor it due to lack of authentication numbers.
Your site however still has them listed as providing headstart access. Please remove this as soon as possible to help divert potential problems for other customers.
Thank You.

What is an authentication number?

The short version is that they don't match up to pre orders, so they can't ensure their employees won't steal the codes and pretend there's none when paying customers show up.

I don't understand this.
This is always how they have done pre-order codes for these games.
If someone is willing to risk losing $5.00 you could try ordering online for in store pick up and see if they email you the code with your receipt.
Also if you do have a legitimate pre order from gamestop and no key contact cryptic support.

Each store is usually shipped a small cache of things like this to have at the ready for people who pre-order, and then later more of these types of things are shipped to stores, in the exact number of pre-orders. So.. say they start with 5. They get 15 pre-orders. The first 5 got their keys early, and 10 more get shipped later. Where the problem is, is that generally those 10 of any pre-order specials going to stores.. three or four tend to end up "missing". the way to prevent this.. and a lot of games DO this part.. is to link the key to a specific pre-order code, so just trying to plug in the code flatout does nothing.
THAT is what it means about there being no verification numbers. As for online.. of course they stopped promising that now. It takes a few days to process those orders (which cannot be canceled); by the time it got to you the headstart would be over. It's already going on; anyone who wants in early REALLY shoulda thought about it a long time ago.

If you preorder online with store delivery they send you the code with your receipt. They don't have to process anything. It is as close to instant as it gets, that is why I suggested it.
I just don't know if they are still accepting pre-orders for store delivery still.

I saw on another forum someone who pre-ordered for in store pickup this morning and got a key with their receipt.
