View Full Version : First Two Powers Damage and % Starter Guide

To say that Champions can be a bit confusing for a new player is an understatement!!

If you are brand new I would recommend that you read this post as well as the sticky threads in the following section: Foxbat's Newbie Q&A (http://forums.champions-online.com/forumdisplay.php?f=94)

Something that confused me right from the start is that I couldn't see how much damage the first two powers you get to pick during character creation do. They may also say there is a chance they may do something else, but they don't tell you what percentage chance you have.

This is likely because your damage and percentages will change very quickly, as it raises with each level you gain, and the number of stat points you have in Strength will immediately change the damage of certain melee attacks. Other stats will also affect the percent chances you have of additional abilities activating.

So it might be hard to list these statistics during character creation. However, I simply couldn't be satisfied with not knowing...

Thus I have undergone the pain staking process of choosing the starter build for each power set and recording the initial damage and percentages for each power they have.

That said, these statistics apply to characters with the base stats for each standard build.

For example:

The standard Sorcery build begins with 12 Intelligence, 12 Presence, and 5s for the other stats.
The standard Darkness build begins with 12 Constitution, 12 Endurance, and 5s for the other stats.

If you customize your character using different stats the damage and percent values may/will change.

For more on how stats affect your powers see the following thread: Stat Guide (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=45402)

Another factor that must be taken into account is that your first power is meant as an auto attack, so the damages that I list below apply to those powers when they are first activated. After they are activated and are auto attacking, the damage they do is decreased. The damage changes with each auto attack so it's impracticable to list them all here, but they generally do 3-4 damage per auto attack at level 1.

Please refer to the notes I have listed after the power sets for clarification on any weird symbols (@ and * ) or any irregularities that may need clarification.

Notes:

1)Explanations for Powers that have @ before them or * after them as follows:

An @ before a power will have a note after it saying that the Damage range for this power at maximum available charge is X. This damage range is based on my own brief testing on the pods to the left where you first appear. To hit the higher damage capacity of these powers you have to hold the attack button down to charge up the power first. These powers use energy as they charge, thus if you run out of energy before they hit their maximum charge, then they will not do the higher damage listed for the power. The Endurance stat determines how much power your character will have available, so if your build only places a 5 in Endurance and you customize your build to get a 12 in Endurance, that power will do more damage as it can charge further. If this seems too confusing, just read the damage I have listed on the note under the power and don't worry about it.

A * at the end of a description means that this will only occurs in certain circumstances. This is exactly as it's listed in game when you mouse over the power, so no I'm not sure what circumstances they refer to. :P

2) I have used the color red to highlight damage and blue to highlight powers that give you energy for ease of comparing the powers. I have also used a different color for any condition a power may cause where there is a power in another set that may also cause that condition. If a condition is unique to a specific set (at least at start up) then I have left it in white. And of course yellow is used to highlight the names of each set of powers.

3) These statistics only apply to freshly made level 1 characters. If you add any equipment or reach level two, these statistics will/may change.

4)These are the statistics as they are listed in yellow when you hover your mouse over your power. Thus if in reality they seem to do more or less damage, complain to a Dev, not me. ^_^

5) These statistics are recorded after talking to Socrates and gaining your first hero points (This is the reward for your 2nd or 3rd mission depending on the order you accept them in). So if you log in and you notice you do less damage at first, that is why, and it will change within a minute or two if you complete your quests.

6) As these statistics will change as soon as you hit level 2, the purpose of listing them here is so you may compare them with the other powers that you can choose during character creation, in the event you want to customize your build, or compare the damage and CC% of similar builds, just remember that you may have to take a 12 in a specific stat in order to achieve the full damage or percentage range listed here.

7) If I have made any mistakes, you wish to add something, you think I should add something, or there is another guide that explains the above better, let me know. ^_^

Cheers!

Just typical you didn't have the stats for the one power I was interested in!

Any idea about Kinetic darts/Ego Blades (Telekenesis)?

Yarg! That was the very first one I did, so I forgot to add it back in when I started from the top. Will be updated soon!

^_^

Edit: It's added. It actually put me over the limit for characters per post so I had to adjust some other things to make it fit. >_<

Cheers!

You need to do up a spreadsheet, for example in GOogle Docs and have all this information listed neatly in columns.

No..I mean it's cool..great job getting all that info in. But..normally when this is done you would tend to do it in a spreadsheet format...is all I'm saying. And then link to the file.

If it is done in Google Documents you can just put a link to the Shared document.

It's...a suggstion to make the list even better and more useful! :)

Well tell yah what.

If you want to take the info and put it into a spread sheet on Google Documents, post the link, and I'll add it the OP. I've already spent nearly the entire day on this and I have to work tomorrow, so that only leaves me with one more day for the event and I've yet to get a character past the starter areas post beta.

If I do this myself it won't be until a few days after launch as I actually want to get some play time in. ^_^

Any ETA on that?

That's a nice start, but I think listing energy %s alone is a little misleading. For instance, the Power Armor builder seems to give much more energy than the Fire builder, until you realize that the PA one takes .5 seconds per period of energy, whereas the fire one only takes .3 seconds.

Well I gathered the info on the second day of the head start program. So I was more or less looking at getting something up fast that would be useful to players during the time where most players will actually be creating their characters.

As I said in the OP, the figures are simply based on the write ups that the devs provided when you mouse over each power. If the data is misleading, it's the Devs that are doing the misleading with the data they have provided. I've simply copied it here.

The only thing I had time to test out myself was the max damage that some of the charge up powers do as I didn't want people thinking they could hit for 75 damage at level one and only getting 20-30 out of the power.

That said, this is a good thing to point out.

So if anyone wants to test this out and record the data, I'll add it in. I'll try to do this eventually if no one else does, but I'm not sure when I'd be able to do so.

LOL, I was just wondering so I would know when to check on it, as I don't really frequent the boards too often. I can just set it to e-mail me when someone makes a post here.

Keep up the good work. ^_^

I believe only the first (two handed shot if using palms or fists as the emulation point) force bolt has knockback.

and you should mention that egoweaponry has a three hit combo and each hit in the combo does slightly more damage.

First off, great work. Thanks for the time and effort.

One misleading item I noticed though was the damage for "Two Gun Mojo" in the Munitions framework.

You list it as only 11 damage, but this ability is a maintained one. So it's 11 (or however much) repeated rapidly while you maintain it.

If the server wasn't down right now I'd create a munitions guy to get the fully maintained number for you.

Munitions:

Gunslinger - 5.2 Piercing Damage
+13% Energy to self*

Two Gun Mojo - 11 Piercing Damage
Applies Enraged to self*
20 duration to Effects self*

I'm not sure if there are any others like that where they are maintained. And of course this doesn't take into account any advantages available to them in a few levels. Some of them are pretty useless, but others are fairly good. For instance, the Gadgeteering End Builder becomes a cone attack which is quite nice!
