View Full Version : Config for all chars on one account possible?

Is there a file somewhere that i can make my changes to keybinds in, that will apply it for all my chars? I use the same layout on everyone, so it would be really nice not to have to do all that over and over on every new char, especially when im just trying stuff out with outfits and want to see it in game, (since the lighting is fairly different from Character Creation area) or trying out a new power set i havent played with before. I tend to play a lot of alts, and especially for now until i get a good handle on all the powers.
I still have only played a handful of different ones, even with the last few weeks in beta. I only played 3 or 4 into the teens, and took 3 of em to 40, but only really played with powers on one of the 40s.

This was posted in the open beta forums, and I assume it still works
Save/load to the default: keybinds.txt
/bind_local_save
/bind_local_load
Save/load to a given keybind file name (based off of the executable directory)
/bind_local_save_file <filename>
/bind_local_load_file <filename>
e.g. on a character that you've customised use /bind_local_save then use /bind_local_load on other characters to load the config that you saved.

I spent all day yesterday looking for where I wrote those commands down. I do wish they had taken my suggestion and placed them in the Newbie FAQ.

I just tried the "/bind_local_save" and "/bind_local_load" commands and didn't have any luck :(
I've tried logging out after entering the load command thinking it might help, but it doesn't change it. There also was no response in the chat window to the commands
Any other ideas?
1. Log in main character
2. Enter "/bind_local_save"
3. Log out main
4. Log in Alt
5. Enter "/bind_local_load"
6. Log out Alt
7. Log in Alt
No change in key binds
UPDATE: I just found the keybinds.txt file and it's empty! Why would it be empty?

When you used the command, you did write out a location on your computer? And the command that worked for me was /bind_save_file.
"/bind_save_file C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\CObinds.txt"
And it's the same format for /bind_load_file, address and all. 'Course, you can put it anywhere you want.

Yeah, the "local" part of those commands I posted back then was wrong.
it should be
/bind_save
/bind_load
(which uses a default file name)
ofr
/bind_save_file <filename>
/bind_load_file <filename>

I would love a way to have the game just save my options - for example, every new character I make I am required to turn on the 'show name' option, etc.

I got so excited posting the facts, I forgot to imply a Brighter and More Beautiful Tomorrow!
Saving settings via a reasonable UI is on the list of things to do.

I found a small bug with the /bind_save and /bind_load commands, though:
I use Shift as a modifier key (I rebound block to a different button). For instance, Shift+1 is my first power in my alternate tray, etc. When I save a keyset using Shift in this way and load it to a new character, I get a "Unknown command (null)" message in my chatbox every time I push Shift. Since I use it a LOT, it's quite spammy. I've noticed it for other keys that I unbind from their defaults and load to new characters, as well (for instance, X is my Ventrilo key, so I unbound it to everything. It spams my chatbox as well).
Rebinding Shift again on the new character doesn't get rid of the message -- only resetting my keybinds to default and setting them again manually gets rid of it.

Hooray! As a lefty, I use the same default configuration to remap most of the keys, so the first option should work for me!

Hey Led, long time no see! Last I heard you were "moving to greener pastures" or something...had no idea it was for Cryptic.
Totally awesome, good for you. :)

There's a LedMirage that does WoW addons. Have no idea if it's the same mirage or not. Small world though.

Yes it is the same. Does them for WoW, Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online...

Although this only saves key-bindings. Not things like HUD and Targetting configs. I have to reset all my targetting options with every new character.
