Is there a way to change your @ name in-game so it is no longer your freaking login to the game?

I think you can open a ticket about it and get a GM to do it, not 100% positive on that though.

What Ashlander said. You need to go to support.

GM ticket. I posted my from the web site. Had a very fast response. I told them my mistake and my desired forum handle and it was taken care of.:)

Do you think they would do it if it wasn't a mistake?

I usually go by Dermod on forums. ><

I guess I could try. The worst they can do is say "no."

I put in a ticket online last night, and it still shows as No Answer today.

Do I have to be online in-game to get a response to this and to actually be able to change it?

Weekends are busy. I put mine in on a Sat night and had a response Monday morning. More than likely it's handled by someone who works 9-5 because it's not a bug, or game breaking as would be needed by a 24 hour staffer.

I just put in a ticket whenever I saw this thread earlier this morning. Mine's already been changed, so it definitely works.

ETA: I should mention that my old display name was the same as my account name, so it wasn't just a vanity fix.

It can take a few days. Keep that in mind.

Can you tell me where exactly you did this? I put in the request a couple days ago and nothing has changed.

Once possibility for the delay (just a maybe!) but maybe that @name is taken already? Or they just misplaced the order. Give em another try and I'm sure they'll help you out :).

good luck!

I'm a little confused by contacting GM... is that the same as a bug report (because to me it really shouldn't be, but that's the form I get after going through all the options in 'Request GM Help')?

If you're referring to creating a ticket to change your @name, you scroll down to the bottom of the forums (just scroll down from where you are now) and click "contact us." Explain that you want your account name to be different from your forum handle, and provide them with three name choices for your handle to save time in case the names are already in use.

I did mine in game. I used "Request GM Help," and then clicked "Character." Of course, my old display was the same as my account name, so that may be why mine went so fast. I specifically said it was a "security risk."

It took me about three days via the method I mentioned. I didn't even know you could do this in game, or I would have.

Yeah I tried that and its been a few days, I understand they are busy but if they are doing others that submitted this morning then they should be able to do mine too I would think. I doubt my name is taken as its unique and I haven't seen it other than myself since the days of EQ.

I just tried this, thanks for the info!

I believe the policy is they will change it if you account name (the name you use to login to the game) is the same as your display name, which is your forum name and your @name in game.

I get the impression that are not intending to change names other than for that reason. They may be making exceptions now, but from what I read they only intend to do it for that reason.

This is the impression I got, but I wasn't sure.

Still, you're likely correct.

Pretty sure they stated specifically that this was the only reason a GM would change your display name. I imagine they'll likely add the ability to change your display name to the Cryptic Store at some point, so those people who completely trash their rep can reset it for a price :D

Here's the official post (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=760896&postcount=13):

Support will ONLY be changing display names for players whose accounts names and display names are the same, to avoid any security issues. We will not be honoring any other requests.
