First off, I am a big fan of cryptic. Also bought copies for myself, my GF, her father, my best friend... And I am a lifetime subscriber. With all that in mind, I am somewhat underwhelmed by cryptic's response to the sorcery problem and a GM response that was given earlier today.
There is an issue going on in game, and the response to the issue seems somewhat unprofessional.
First, the issue:
All 4 sorcery trees are broken.
The cause:
All 4 trees share the same 3 tier 1 skills in addition to the end builder: Eldritch blast, Binding of Aratron, and Eldritch shield. These skills are tagged as sorcery. All of the tier 2 skills require 3 of a specific flavor of sorcery (i.e. tier 2 radiant sorcery requires 3 radiant sorcery abilities to take it). The problem is that there are not 3 tier 1 abilities in any of the 4 types of sorcery, and the skills do not accept the generic “sorcery” skill type.
GM response:
When you go to the bugs -> powers & combat section, you see a bolded sticky title which asks people to be aware that this is a development version of the mmorpg and that the game will change as you implement and polish new features throughout the preview period. These 4 trees have been broken since the 22nd, and not only has it not been fixed, but even now that you are in the live version, they have not updated their response.
How this came to my attention:
Someone asked me about it, since they were making a sorcery character, and I told them to submit a GM help request and ask the GM to add the power they wanted, since it is obvious they meet the intended prerequisites. They currently have 4 sorcery skills(the 3 generic tier 1s and the end builder). Giving them the next skill would allow them to continue to build their character. The GM responded that they would not add the skill to her character, even if she had the prerequisites, and that she should remember that the game will evolve and that they hope she has fun playing. They said they would not help her. They did not say that the bug would be fixed soon, or even that they plan to fix it.
Maybe I don’t understand what is involved, but it seems to me that this problem should be trivial to fix. There are 3 simple ways to do it…
1) All of the tier 1 powers need to be flagged for all 4 branches of sorcery(i.e. they count as radiant, and ebon, and arcane, etc..)
2) Create duplicate entries for each of the tier 1 powers in each of the branches. So you would have an eldritch blast from radiant and an eldritch blast from ebon.
3) Change the requirements for all tier 2 and tier 3 sorcery powers to accept basic sorcery as a prerequisite.
Why has this dragged on for 6 days so far? Why is there no indication that they understand the problem, let alone are fixing it? Why is the GM unwilling to help(or at least that is what he said)? If the GM is willing to help but unable, why do the GMs not have enough power to handle this?
