View Full Version : RP Networking

While we don't have a designated server, we do have an interesting shard system that can actually, in some ways, function much better than an unofficial RP server. This game will automatically place you in the same instance as people on your buddy list, which means if you are willing to add someone to your list merely on the virtue of their being a RPer, we may eventually be networked in such a way that non-RPers will become a scarcity to those connected. It will be like a completely different game.

All roleplayers are free to add me to their buddy list, if they think I'm someone they'd enjoy/can stand. ;)

Others willing, please post here. Also include a small amount of information about your genre preferences (sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk, cyberpunk, any, etc.), the themes you like to explore in RP, and whatever else you'd like people to know, so you can meet up with like minds. Feel free to let it all hang out, and never forget that literature is all about opinions. I'll start:

I am partial to sci-fi, I like deep, philosophical themes like genuine otherworldliness, transhumanism, and the effects of emerging technologies on psychology and society. I enjoy romantic plots ( if they are sufficiently thought-provoking and real), I prefer smaller groups for RP scenes, I like to avoid what I call the "tavern rut", I am very chatty OOC, I love talking about the craft of writing, I like to challenge and inspire people to think outside the box, I think Mary Sues are not inherently bad (their success hinges heavily on intelligent and tasteful execution), I avoid cliches when I can, and reinvent or reexamine them when I can't, I encourage and require OOC maturity, and if it's not thoughtful or interesting to me, I generally don't want to participate. I think most all cliches can be redeemed if twisted around and portrayed by an expert, with the exception of ninjas and dark elves. Dark elves who are also ninjas are strictly out of the question. I tolerate people who identify as "furries", but quietly dislike that they completely ruined the concept of the anthromorph for everyone else, just like mall goths and Twilight ruined vampires. Thanks guys.

I am a woman keyboarder, and I occasionally type under the influence. RP with care.

Hope to see you all over the weekend, and after launch!

Edit: We have gotten a lot of responses! Remember you can add friends through the forums here, so go ahead and pick out all the people you like from this thread to add them. By posting here, you and they have given consent for a "blind invite".

Add me! @Confessional

I'm a heavy RPer that thrives on making interesting and interactive plots for my team. I'm generally into EVERYTHING! Lets do this, RPers!

In RP I tend to prefer.....actually to be honest I'm up for anything. I enjoy plots that deal with the "grand scheme" of things, maybe with cosmic entities of some kind or anything that makes regular day-to-day crimefighting seem trivial in comparison. I also enjoy exploring moral conundrums, conflicts that transcend the boundaries of good and evil, and by extension thereof, characters that are more developed and realistic. Heroes who aren't always a good role model, villains who have a sensible (or even sympathizable) motive for their actions, that kind of thing.

EDIT: 99% chance I will be playing mainly as Zennshi@Krimsin

Hrmm, well Krimsin You'll love one of my heroes. (I think). I'll add you all once the game comes out. I am a RPer who loves the cliche' type of hero/villain. I do sometimes let reality slip in. I'm a huge romantic type RPer (And no that doesn't mean ERP ) I tend to make variations or what I like to call "homeages" to some of the already known superheroes. Example Batman Homage is Grey Spector.

I quit CoX because it felt like one fellow RPer was trampling over my charactor and making him be the hero and my charactor the viliian. So I am now going to take charge and not let anyone trample on my RPing (Hope I didn't offend you all with that.) I am starting to get more grounded with my charactor(s). I do tend to not knowingly drop a plot without talking OOC about it. I also tend to go overboard with the scene (ie dramafilled). Hope you all will understand. Add me too! @ChampOne. See you all there fellow RPers.

Oh and will comprimise on what should be a good ideal for plots that I come up with. I will try to stray away from all of a suddenly drop a plot IC & not to go overboard with a scene. Thank you all.

Meh. I almost never plan plots out. I just sort of go with it while subtly edging the plot towards something i might like to do.

@Superior
Interests: All (except sexual mature themes)
Affiliates: Millennium Universe, a lot of the old boarders around here, many RPers
Likes: Being the antagonist, plot twists, being the known hero, Themed Groups to play with (me not being part of the theme*), anti-heroes.
Dislikes: Sexual mature themes
About me: I am a heavy role-player who usually deals with the evi.... I mean antagonist relations. Though I play the blue-coat often, I love playing heroes are who captured in their believes and then playing as villains who question those believes looking for the flaws. With CO alone I will by playing mostly with my three main characters Superior and Viator.

This is actually quite a clever observation.

@Laughing_Wolf

Affiliates: Sin Enterprises, from the City universe.

Likes: Character development, first and foremost. I like realistic(ish) engagements with richly portrayed personalities that have flaws and quirks, feelings, interests and dislikes of their own. Exploring the psyche of an imaginary character in a setting they may or may not want to be a part of, how they handle the trivial things and how they relax. My favorite game, because of its sense of character development and lack of any hint that the character was saving the world, is Mirror's Edge; that's the kind of plot and character depth I like.

Dislikes: I tend to dislike silly and cosmic RP. I've saved the world a dozen times in single-player games and may do so again in CO once or twice, but if every character that my own character interacts with has some world-shattering catastrophe he prevented, it hurts my immersion and I just don't want to be involved in every one of those plots. Some, yes, I will, but only rarely. And "silly", a line which CO very nearly steps over, has simply never carried a whole lot of deep character in my experience, so it goes on my "dislikes" list. Too often, these silly characters are walking puns with no depth except to be the butt of the next joke - kinda like the show Friends (which I abhor). :P

(edit: Add psychics to that list. I've so rarely seen them handled well that I'm very wary; too often, players assume too much or trivialize the mental defenses of someone far too much.)

"Mature" RP: I'll touch on this. I usually write a tag in my bios: "No Mature RP. Don't even ask." I like to think I portray my characters realistically, which often means that the crowd RPing just for ERP has no Chance (I do enjoy the occasional pun) because they have no personality and develop no relationship.

About me: I'm still running that other group in that other universe, so I may not be on CO as much as I'd like. (edit: I can also tend to be verbose, in both forum and emoting.)

Feel free to add me.

I am an "integrator" and feel all themes/settings should work with the reality of the CO world. So anything goes but I gravitate towards cyberpunk and gritty realism ("natural" heroes) for my own characters. In general I don't create elaborate plots, plans or stories but I am not against them, but I do like to create extensive character background and personality. I appreciate the art of staying in character at all times and using in-character language to work through and discuss "meta" problems/situations.

Loving the responses. I've added everyone so far, and like what I see. Let's keep them coming. Using this network, in tandem with just defaulting to shard #7 when in doubt, I think we might be able to pull off a relatively "pure" experience.

Also, keep talking about yourselves and your view of RP! Don't be shy. The only thing more fun than RP, to me, is discussing it.

First off, a disclaimer. Not sure when/if I'll achieve full presence in CO. I too have a heavy commitment in CoX- in fact Laughing_Wolf and I know each other from there, and I'm the storyline lead for SE. So, needless to say, I like to write a LOT. Played a big chunk of the beta, love a lot of the game, dislike certain other things about it. So, consider this a sort of pre-emptive move to associate myself w/the RP community 'over here', while still being a coward about jumping ship. That said:

Likes:
Well-developed backstories for chars- not the sort that gets spilled all over your lap at first meeting, but the sort that informs the char's behavior right down to the ground. Maybe other players will never even KNOW the whole story, but will know it's there, because the character is alive, consistent, and *grows*.

Storylines. I play with the Epic and grandiose in some of my groups; can handle it, but it CAN get wearing if that's all you get. But a tight storyline as simple as a courtship or as complicated as a war draws me in.

CREATIVE characters, even new takes on old paradigms.

Loathes

People who RP in the past tense- sorry. You don't TALK that way, why do you RP that way?

People who criticize my (admittedly awful) typing. I think far faster than i type. Be merciful. I'll return the favor ;)

Silly chars. By this I don't mean characters who are IC silly some or even most of the time (like a certain valgal heroine I could name)- if it's truly in character and part of their psyche, that's cool. But if you roll a char named Vhan Bewbs, and use it as a platform for constantly runnng cleavge jokes? Thanks for playing, bainao. Yes, it's a pet peeve, and I've quit at least one group becasue the majority of the RP in it was headed that way.

Char types:

Almost all of my chars are greylanders. I have very few truly 'evil' chars (though on the surface many may appear to be), and the shining knight on the platinum horse model of hero makes me ill. I prefer real people. Antiheros and humane villains FTW! Sometimes my chars are emo, but I like to think it's an outgrowth of their backgrounds; there's no emo for the sake of attention grabbing, and I try my hardest to keep it OUT of the OOC realm.

Style

Nearly any, though I have a penchant for either shadowlanders (demons, mages, vamps, etc), or 'normal' foks, technologically enhanced or otherwise. High-science can be fun, but also a LOT of work to keep up coherence and consistency.

I do best in written RP, pairs, or small groups. Not that I'm exclusive, I don't think, I just can't process more than a certain amount of input, and still give it reasoned attention. So, in large parties I often become the wallflower tossing the occasional one-liner.

Since it's been brought up: ERP. Take it, leave it. Context and relevance is all. 'nuff said.

Oh yeah...and I obsess a lot about my charcaters. Can you tell? ;)
I should also add that most of my creations have a dark streak- no Disney channel for me .

There you have it...and a lot more you didn't want.

and "Frontier Justice" An undead cowboy possessed by the Spirits of Justice to hunt those who harm the Innocent. Think "Ghost Rider" meets "Jonah Hex" with "Deadlands" thrown in.

By the By, I'm a PnP Champions Fan, if you ever have any lore questions about the game world, hit me up, I'll tell you who REALLY Runs VIPER, What the Kings of Edom are, and how the 4 realms of Magic interact with the world if you want to integrate your character into the worlds Lore more.:)

As for my RP type. Generally speaking I like to make well thought out characters with detailed backgrounds and personalities, I enjoy deep Roleplaying, however, I like to avoid getting involved in tangled Meta Plots involving "Saving the world/Reality" What have you. I'm perfectly fine roleplaying out the reaction to actual missions taking place or personal things going on in other characters lives.

As it stands, I Run the Mage:The Awakening LARP in Detroit Michigan, and that fills enough of my Drama plate these days, so I avoid any and all Drama and Roleplay purely to have fun :)

Yeah, i'm into this!

@Alkainen

These are the three "main" characters that i cycle through regularly. They have some minor background, but otherwise i prefer to focus on how they grow as they progress through their lives, rather than where they started:

Alkainen (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/character1.png), the hero-to-all (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/alkainen8.jpg)! A Japanese tokusatsu/henshin themed superhero in the vein of Kamen Rider and similar media. A troubled, arrogant youth, Jesse finds himself at the wrong place at the wrong time, watching as a group of men in black gun down white coated scientists desperately protecting a mysterious crate. What's inside?! Young, cocky, overeager, iron-willed and gutsy - and that was all before he found the alien powered combat suit and decided to take part in some serious wish-fullfilment, er, i mean, become a hero.

The Azure (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/zazureace.png) Ace (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/11character.png). Remy, a World War I era fighter pilot who survived the war, only to become a mercenary pilot (or pirate, if you like) for hire. Making it through every scuffle of his life, he succumbs in the end to a lifetime of decadence and seedy habits. At death's door, in fevered dreams halfway between reality and fantasy, he begs for another chance...and gets it. Granted great powers, he doesn't know who granted his wish or what price they'll exact, but he's not going to waste his second chance.

Baal (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/09character.png) Vassago (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/zbaalvassago.png). When the old man, Abraham Barnes, loses his entire family during the Battle of Detroit, it is not enough to say that he is distraught and desperate for revenge. But, far too advanced in his years and infirm to handle any "physical enhancements" or "alterations", he quite literally makes a deal with a devil. Granting him powers of a terrible nature, Abraham becomes a conduit for the power of Baal Vassago...at least, until he acheives his vengeance.

I also have a few others i fool around with: the cowboy robots, Hyperlink Cassidy (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/07character.png) and DOS Holliday (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/1dosholliday.png), and an Ice-themed champion named (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/1cocytus.png) Cocytus (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/kuzukago/2cocytus.png). I'll RP and respond with all of my characters: don't be shy! I'm also always willing to group and help out where i can. My interests are varied, and i won't bore anyone by making this post any longer than it already is: find me in-game, or PM, or over at CORP!

If you RP then feel free to add me to your Friends List.:)

Favorite Genre: Ummmm classic superhero (DC, Marvel, those other guys).
Themes: What ever makes a good story. I like to write and usually I go with whatever inspires me. I could write a touching Winter Holiday story about a Super Villain seeing his mom or heroes focusing on looking for drunk drivers and taking them out of harms way or something as silly as "How I Spent My Summer Vacation- By Johnny (ShortBus) L, Age 10" and include screenshots. In game, I will tend to discuss a battle from the perspective of a 10 year old who thinks that ninjas are neat, his favorite hero is Defender ("I even got to meet him once") and still wants to grow up to be a firefighter. And this is just the superhero stuff.

In other genres I have played characters that:
- were alcohol abusers (and then died of alcohol poisoning)
- was an ogre that was part Lenny Small, part Cookie Monster and the unofficial mascot for the server.
3683 3684 3685

As for RP stuff that makes me roll my eyes and or shake my head:
- if you have amnesia and I learn that with in 5 minutes of meeting you
- You try and play an as$hat and then expect everyone to act as though they like you
- every conversation you have is only about your character development

But hey, to each their own. Maybe you have a really good story to tell so don't let me discourage you from telling it your way. The journey is the trip (or something like that). Not everyone likes or wants to read everyone else's stories.

As for how people RP in these games:
- I am not against hanging out in a designated place at a designated time once a week to tell stories about what happened the rest of the time (we had successful Tavern Story telling nights in Warhammer) but I won't do it all the time.
- I prefer to group and do missions and RP as we go. I think most would agree that if you can RP in battle or while making plans, great, but if not its no biggee. On the other hand, during the downtime while waiting for so and so to get there, lets RP it up (if you all aren't up for it, I am going to emote sitting on the ground and play trucks until we are ready).
- Even if we don't RP during a mission, if it strikes me, I will probably write a story about how it went down. If you don't like the dialogue I write for your character, please let me know. So far, no complaints. :)

And Lastly, I can see how the my main character's name, ShortBus, could be considered offensive. Believe me when I say that is not my intention. I play him as a 10 year old that doesn't have the full use of his legs (I still can't decide if he has MS or not) and has armor that looks like a bus (and he is short, because he is 10). I do try and balance out my karma on this by volunteering time with Special Olympics in my area and state. (http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m29/hixtom/SOWA/P1000475.jpg) The bottom line is, I don't play ShortBus as the R-word nor do I play him as dumb.

Howdy, Pardners.....bzzzzrt!

I have been around in one form or another since closed beta. But, haven;t spouted up into RP too much. I'm one of the Snake Gulch robots that has escaped and somehow gained self awareness. I have some story ideas for the twist on this, but haven't explored it yet.

Likes:similar to this nice quote:

Well-developed backstories for characters. Most characters will never even KNOW the whole story, but will know it's there, because the character is alive, consistent, and *grows*.

Storylines. I dunno, being inexperienced and all that. I have just sorta started my own story line of escaping the Gulch and wantin' to stick it to that consarn varmit: Mechanon and them thar Vipers.

I like creative characters, even if the look similar to others, as long as they have some unique backstory.

Loathes: People that just want to flirt all the time and not interact in any other way. Unless of course that is their big theme thing: being a flirty lil monster.

Char types:

I'm a big fan of techno-magicall amalgamations. I like the crossover of tech/steam/cyber/magic/supernatural. Kinda Shadowrun-ish or what have ya.

Style : I just randomly walk around and talk to folks in character. I don't belong to any set group, mainlly because I don't know any RP groups. I'm great at staying IC, but I really don't have any MMO rp experience, just old timey pen and paper stuff. So my style is still shaping up I guess.

Thats my lil microcosmic RP ideas atm.

If'n y'all see me over yonder in the City, stop by and chat me up a bit.... bzzzrt.

Please feel free to add me. I like where this is going.

As far as RP, my interests run mostly towards examining the interaction of humanity with the fantastic. I enjoy plots that have complex, philosophic and psychological impacts. I tend to enjoy sci-fi and horror the most because of this, although I am also not above a little absurd comedy from time to time. One of my favorite themes to explore is the relationship between science (or the known) and the unknown or uncanny (like the mystic arts).

Anyway, please feel free to look me up and add me to your friends lists.

RR! Good to see you made the jump.

Yeah, @Rakescar chiming in.

You'll probably find me on either Hockey Goon (my general futz around toon) and Barbeque (my preliminary RP toon for CO). For the most part I can roll with just about any style of RP, so long it never gets personal beyond the character. I'll jump for anything silly and clever, rolling joke toons and RP'ing them for the length of interest either by myself or in press gangs intent on causing an amusing stir. Key factor in this is that ultimately it has to be fun and make me either chuckle or laugh.

BBQ's kinda like MacGuyver except more clumsy (frequently sets himself on fire), narrow minded (all solutions involve fire of some sort), and more chauvanistic. But he does sport an excellent mullet.

If you're keen on friend-ing me, I'd advise either sending me a tell or mail before, as unless I recognize your name from CoX days, I probably don't know you and decline the invite. Not that I ain't friendly, I'm just picky.

Roleplay Preference: I will/ can Roleplay about anything, as long as it is not overly comical. I prefer sci/fi/modern fantasy, but can pull some sword n sorcery out if need be. I also have no animosity towards the WoDers, as I am sure some will eventually make their way to this game.

I believe in RPing my characters "realistically" with real personalities and emotions. Not all of them are nice, and have good and bad days.

Dislikes: People who only engage in roleplay to ERP or assume Mature RP means ERP time! No. Other than that, I will roll with the situation and have my character react accordingly.

Storylines: Most of my characters have backstories, but I won't try to force them into anything. I prefer to take on abominations of science and the like, though.

Character Types: While all of my characters have something different going on with them, I generally stick to modern individuals in over their heads. I think it's fun to have a variety of different character personalities so that interaction will be deeper.

Style: I tend to simply stay IC when grouping. The trick will be getting used to the emotes in this game.

Give a holler if you want to team up, but please send a tell so I know how you know me.

Add @Fraktal to the list.

Style: I tend to stay IC most of the time, but I do use OOC to make random comments about the game while I play as well. I particularly like to RP while doing missions. I can just do the missions without IC comment if necessary but it's not my preference.

Likes: Character development... finding ways to integrate my character's unique story into the overall story of the game world.

Dislikes: Rushing through content. I do not like to just whip through missions so fast that I don't even have time to read the text, and when that starts to happen I will usually drop team and solo things at my own pace. I don't like feeling as if I'm in a race.

Character types: Most of my characters are straight four-color silver age type characters -- the true heroes, black-and-white morality types, etc. Occasionally I'll make a "shades of gray" character (I have one right now though she is level 1 still), but that's more rare for me.

I always welcome RP. Feel free to look me up.

Guess this answers my question of "Will there be RP in this game?".

Feel free to add good ol' @cythisgood. As for RP preferences, I'm fine with a lot of stuff, but am most comfortable in the middle of the spectrum between 'serious' and 'light-hearted'. I don't RP as well in teams because I'm usually busy keeping my toon alive. ;)

It took me forever to even find the walk button for this game. PROTIP: the walk button starts out unbound, so you have to go into options and pick something for it (like middle mouse button click, which is what i use).

Now if Cryptic would just get around to that bloody sitting emote.

Aww, but then he'll miss out on learning alllll about breakdancing! :P

Well, there are a number of places you can enter in MC. I've only been in one that wasn't a crafting store - it was a dive bar laid out exactly like that Maniacs bar you sneak into... but without enemies. My friend and I were hopping around MC a bit looking up places.

On that note, several of the crafting stores would make a decent place to RP. I think the main problem with having so many places to RP is that it separates a potentially small community. Three people in the magic store, two checking out the helicopter over at the ordnance store, three in the dojo and then one sitting all alone at the magic store (not sure which specific field that is near the jail).

On the other hand, if this network gets to be wide enough, any one of us may be able to see one person sitting in that magic store, hop on by, and find three other RPers chatting away that weren't in our immediate friends list.

Well to be honest, with my highest level character being 7, I'm still just trying to learn the game. I've been around on the forums a long time, and am a vet of other MMOs, but I only tried beta for a few hours, and honestly I almost didn't buy the game as a result because of poor performance on my arthritic old PC. However, a friend gave me some good suggestions about settings to change, so I figured I'd try it, and performance has been a little better -- still can't be great because of my dinosaur PC but oh well.

At any rate, I'm still a "newb" to this game so I don't even know where most areas are other than the starting desert and snow areas.... I mean just the other night it took me half an hour to find the contact inside that ring-like building in the desert. I could see him in there through the glass but had no idea there was an elevator... LOL.

Anyway, I may need some help on finding any RP locations we designate at least until I get my bearings. My guess is, I am not the only one.

@Kendaen

My characters are beastial, though they ware cloths and talk, I think it adds something different to the game instead of the stereotypical spandex heroes ;) ... If this offends I do apologies.

As for style, i'm more of a situation RPer: missions, patrols or just relaxing in a bar. As for stories or plot I would end up being a sub-character - I'm not an leading role sort of player. I try to make characters with a back story that fits with the world lore but I try to add a more down to earth twist... though in CO I might have gone a little over board :D

My two main characters are from an alternate earth where evalution took a different path (Darwin? Pft :p ) They're soldier / mercenaries who have been sent to this dimention to retrieve a rogue General *Insert nemisis here* ... yes my two main charater will probably end up having the same nemisis I just hope ther's no naming block set up.

So add me if you want ;)

@Keinichn here. Add away. I've been looking for a group of RPers to hang around with. All of my characters (With the exception of one) are RP ready and have supernatural backgrounds (An ice dragon, a Drow, etc). I take advantage of my costume slots by going all out and making alternate "forms" for my characters (Like my dragon has a human form. Drow will have a half-demon and full demon form). I'd enjoy RPing randomly or even quest Rping. Hit me up sometime, I'm avaliable almost always when I'm in game.

Man, glad i'm not the only one. Honestly, it's one of my favorite things to do for my serious characters. Have a costume for every situation (my devil possessed old man has his extra human form, and an alternate demon costume; WWI fighter ace has his military uniform and "Generation X updated for relevancy" costume; my ice champ has the frozen form, uniform and human alternate). Adds so much extra depth to a character for an RPer to adapt to each situation.

Heya folks, you can find me @Chiroptera and I'm usually on Mourning Dove, Olympia or Defcon.
Defcon is my main Solo character, the other two I mentioned are both played with one of my closest friends as duo characters.

Defcon could probably best be described as a cross of Batman and Miss Marvel (weird combo, I know.) She works for the Department of Defense as a sort've super heroic Internal Affairs agent.
She's pro-registration, and essentially lives to the query of "Who watches the watchmen" in her day to day existence. She's a hero, she cares deeply about civilians and innocents, but she considers most heroes to be just as dangerous (if not more so) than most villains.
If you ever need someone to play the bad cop role in an RP scenario feel free to look me up; Defcon can come off a bit harsh but she's a far parallel from my OOC self. I'm always happy to make new RP buddies in game! :D

I tend to be a "put up or shut up" kind've RPer, I don't like to stand around talking about heroic exploits, I like to live them. I'm a big proponent of RPing while questing and won't usually do stand around RP until late in the evening when I'm winding down before bed.
That said, I can usually be found in both the Champions RP and Socrates Comm channels, so if anyone wants someone to interact with there feel free to make your voice heard, I'll usually respond unless I'm in over my head in a fight at the moment (and sometimes even when I'm in a fight... often to my detriment). :)

@Night-Robin

I'm not the greatest RPer, but I was in an RPing Supergroup in CoX, so I do have a tad bit of experience. However, that mainly consisted of reacting to others storylines. It's sometimes a crapshoot when I get to play, so I'm not sure how beneficial I would be to a large storyline but I'm all for participating in missions and such.

My two current characters I'm flip flopping back and forth with are:

Megawat -- An Electric hero who was manipulated by his foster father into a life of crime. He seemingly killed his Father and moved on to become a hero and make amends for his wrongdoings. However, he has been made cold and untrusting by his experiences and can be difficult to get along with.

Prolonger -- A hero of Force, Prolonger is the product of a volunteer genetics program initiated by the U.S. Army. Friendly and caring, Prolonger is willing to help anyone and everyone for the greater good.

Hi everyone,

Please feel free to add me. I am Mindwarp@WanderingLunatic

My main character is Mindwarp. She's a military experiment gone rogue. Created by corrupting the innocent body of a young woman, she was given formidable telepathic powers. However one day the machinery grafted into her body developed a fault and she started getting flashbacks of her old life. Breaking free of the control of her creators she set about trying to discover her true place in the world.

Strengths: Powerful telepath. Flight. Driven to succeed in whatever she sets out to do. Can do complex sums.
Weaknesses: Most of her body, and especially her mind, has been taken over with cybernetic implants. She lives in fear of someone discovering the way to access these and turn her back into a mind-controlled slave drone.

Hey Everyone,

Up till coming to champions I haven't exactly been much of an RPer. Infact I haven't been an RPer at all. But I have enjoyed writing a lot of fiction for my toons. After reading a lot of these RP threads here though I think I'd like to give it a go.

Here's a little about my interests:
Like: love scifi and military/political conspiracy theory stories. I really enjoy the all or nothing, save the world/city stories as well. Some of the themes I tend to lean toward are those that look at relationships and challenge peoples perceptions of reality or their beliefs.

Dislikes: probably the only thing I am really not into is fantasy stories. But every now and then I like to change things up and make a toon that is magic based. Mostly though I'd say I'm pretty much open to trying anything once.

If you guys wouldn't mind a new comer I would be happy to run with some of you guys in game.

Edit: Oops, almost forgot. Feel free to add me @third_person.

So... yep!

Edit of an edit: ITT edition.

In all reality I really have been a roleplayer since I was 8 and sitting around a D&D table. Never done superhero before, but in the 13 years since I've started, I'd done everything else under the sun, from fantasy to modern, steampunk to Shadowrun. I'm sincerely looking forward to stretching my imagination all the more (assuming my pen doesn't run out of ink), and an open, customizable game like this is just what I feel I need to take it that one step further.

If you're just arriving at this thread and posting to let fellow RPers know to friend you, I'd suggest taking a minute to friend a couple of names from the list, as well. In order for the networking part of this idea to really take hold, we need a lot of players with a list of RPers on their friends list and not a couple of players with all the RPers on their friends list.

Remember, not everyone who's already posted here will keep returning to add names. So, make these shards work for us! You don't have to actually know the person, or even necessarily like them, but if they're friends with ten RPers and they go to a shard that lists three of their friends online, who are also friends with ten RPers and each have three of their friends on that shard, you might just find you've been defaulted to a shard mostly containing RPers.

That would be a great idea.

And yeah, I keep looking at CORP. First time I went there, I wandered into a topic on origins and porting characters over from CoH and some of the chatter left a rather poor impression on me. I've been working on clearing that from my mind and going back to register. I even have the website open in a tab. :)

One other hesitation is that I'm really just not expecting to be on as much as I'd like to be. This, like that impression, is something that may easily change, though. I'll check it out more tonight, if I have free time. I like that there are tons of polls. o.o I like polls.

Count me in, well since I just added all of you.

Likes: I like to be immersed, I enjoy being in a group, and I love some good character development. You won't see me in a new character until I feel like this one has run out of character development. Oh and walking a slow dungeon crawl. There's room for RP about every ten feet, that's when I'm having the most fun, I once spent 4 hours in a 1 hour instance, that was epic, and a really good group.

Dislikes: "Mature" RP. I'm okay with a bit of snoggin' but anything that gets to the point of "get a room" is a little too far. I hate power gamers who think they can drop a grenade and think it's going to get me every time, I drop those people like old hats with a swift shot to the knee or elbow to the neck. AND I HATE do-overs. If you want a do-over you're getting on a different list right away.

This will be my first Hero game, but I came from SWG where we had huge arcing storylines that went on for years, and then we had events for one night that kept you up until 5am when you had to be at work at 8. I tend to play the reluctant participant at least for a while until I get a feel for things. So if you see me, I'm the one that doesn't look like a super hero, I like to play normals. I tend to go along with whatever RP is around, as long as it fits my character.

I'm partial to sci-fi but I've been in a few fantasy games looking for RP, with little to find. I'd be willing to find a scary nemesis player to RP off of if someone is willing to try and bring the hero out of Keira. I tend to keep RP and OOC very separate, I've had complaints previously so now I'm very clear about which is which ((this is OOC)). But at the same time I have a wide tolerance for those who skim the line, as long as I can figure out which is in character and which is not.

((Yeah, I can get in on this:))

Name: Augustine Grey
Age: Early twenties (although her true age is well over 200)
Nationality: British

Grey is a descendant of a clan of female spirit wolves who can take a shape similar to our own.
Hundreds of years ago they were enslaved by a rival clan of evil spirits. They were chained and forced to perform terrible acts of sexual debauchery.

Over time, the spirit wolves secretly harnessed powers of their own and learnt to enchant the chains which bound them, creating mystical weapons for them to use in their escape. They overpowered their oppressors and fled to the Human world where they begun to intermingle and breed with us.

Grey is one of the last few spirit wolf descendants who are able to use the spirit chains and the abilities passed down to her. This makes her extremely desirable to her ancestor's tormentors who have finally traced the spirit wolves to this realm and seek to once more enslave them... starting with Grey.

Ok that´s not much of an background story, but i like to make a frame for my characters and then fill things later when i see how they play out:)
As for my gaming history, i´ve played lots of tabletop rpg´s, card games, miniatures...actually pretty much what i come accross and like.Ii played Champions 2nd edition years ago and jumped to chance to try this on-line version. Warwind is based to a character i would have liked to try, but did not have time then.
I don´t have much preferences for wich kind of RP i play. This char is mostly straight up hero. Maybe i do one or two darker ones in future. have to see.

And toss up a little bit about your RP and your style. Doesn't have to be your character, but let newcomers and lurkers alike know what kind of RP they're likely to see if they end up in a team or the club or simply standing around MC next to your character.

I guess I would like to RP a bit. For those of you who migrated here from CoX, you may (or may not, since I haven't played in years) remember me from the (in)famous Circle of Jerks. You know, that group of wacky heros who did used to do lots of cool events and pranks. Uh, I haven't done any serious RP, but I am interested in the casual variation. I tend to play characters who are slightly goofy, or maybe not what you would expect from a normal hero (Such as my newest character Royal Joe, crazed mascot of the Royal Burger fast food chain you see billboards for in CO). I try to be polite, but I am sort of sarcastic and snarky sometimes, so don't take everything I say as serious. I don't really care for most furries, (not that I hate them or anything, just my mental image of them has been ruined by some of the really messed up ones). I am longwinded, as evidenced by this post. I'm not realy sure what to expect from RPing, since I have only ever done any online RP in the most casual of senses, but I am a big fan of tabletop games (I regularly DM D&D games, or act as Storyteller for Whitewolf). Anyway, sorry for rambling on, if you feel like it add me @Swirly.

Also hailing from CoX, I have been rp'ing on and offline for awhile. I have been playing the PnP Champions for years... one of the things I love about CO is that I can now use a lot of characters I've made up for PnP whose origins are firmly entrenched in Champions universe lore.

My characters are all over the place in terms of origins and abilities. Magic, pulp, and Science! are my favorites, though, and I'm pretty much game for any type of rp. I have characters ranging from sincere, real-deal superheroes to a snarky sentient computer virus in an android body who affectionately calls humans 'fleshlings' or 'squishies'.

As a player I tend to roll my eyes a bit at characters who seem to be and act as if they are constructed of pure angst. Also, I lack patience with characters who are clearly constructed to be 'cool'. I will rp with them, but there are consequences: If you play a black ball of badarse angst, my character will respond to you appropriately... a snarky character will be constantly mocking you for overcompensating for *something*, and my true-blue good-guy will be asking if you kiss your mother with that mouth.

For example: in the PnP game, a new player to our Champions game made up a long black coat wearing, two-pistol slinging/dual blade-wielding emoboy named 'Raven Obsidian' who was a half-vampire demon who spit out constant grim one-liners while toeing the line between anti-hero and dark vigilante. My character kept asking him when he had to get back to his shift at Hot Topic.)

I do go OOC a bit, as well (That comes from PnP rp'ing... you simply can't get together with friends for hours-long play sessions and stay constantly in character.) But you'll always know when I'm OOC or IC.

@Zemekiss

This is a really nice idea. I wish I'd wandered by this thread earlier. I'll add a few people when I have time to go through the thread properly.

My RP-Style casual when it comes to online stuff. I'd much prefer to be in character than out, but my typing speed struggles to keep up with most online dialog. I get most of my RPing in the Pnp paper environment and developing back stories around characters.

As such I'm serious altaholic and have characters of many different styles. A young man who found his great-grandfather's clockwork power armor, an heiress who was experimented on by VIPER, and a spirit who lost her life in a magical fire are my 3 mains at the moment. I tend to stay away from earth shattering story lines and focus more personal motivations or crime-driven ones.

I've fairly easy going and open when it comes to with people and their stories. This is a super hero game after all. An agnsty vapmpiric cat girl is just a plausible as an alien from another planet showing up to save the day. The only thing I'm not a big fan of is forcing your story on others. It's more about evolving it through interactions with the people you meet.

Yeah, I'm totally up for this! Please add me!

I've been a PnP GM for my friends for several years now, but I have only recently tried online RP.
I love in-game character development and character consistency. I play a variety of characters from a boy genius with dreams of sidekicking to a naive extra-dimensional alien just trying to figure humans out. I don't like overly perfect characters, but I don't mind if they just 'think' they are perfect. That can be fun to play with sometimes. Mature themes are fine, as long as it is kept 'PG-13.' I would be happy to have characters join an RP supergroup if one exists. Look forward to interacting with all of you!

I like dynamic characters. Backgrounds are great, but without any growth it is just a fancy painting; it might look nice, but it never changes.

I love story lines, I like it when plot-twists make my head explode, or sometimes when things really are just what they seem (though that can be reverse psychology. Who'd expect the evil guys to really do what they said?).

I like new character ideas, but the biggest part of being a good role player isn't a new concept, but how well the personality is made. A convincing personality, the little behaviors and such are what make them 'real'.

Loathes

People who can't spell. But this might come from the fact that I am mostly a PnP and Forum RPer. I have never really done MMO RPing, and I have no clue what ERP means.?

People whose characters never change..

Char types:

I've played all sorts of characters, and unlike a lot of people who think that Paladins are boring, or that truely evil people are bland, I find them interesting. What could have happened to a person for example, that would distort their view of the world to the point where their actions were morally ok to themselves? And how does a Paladin put up with the stress and nagging doubt that comes with every ambigous grey smited?

The single biggest influence on my characters though came from the Japanese Visual Novel Tsukihime (There is a manga as well called Shingetsutan Tsukihime. While it isn't nearly as good as the actual VN, it still is a pretty deep book).

Style

I do whatever I feel like rolling at the time. Right now in an Anima Campaign I am doing with some friend IRL (it's a paper pencil) my character is an obnoxious narcissistic and somewhat 'out-of-touch' girl who goes about believing herself to one day be a princess (The behavior comes from when she was originally seperated from her family. Her family was a noble house, that made it's living hunting, taming, and selling monsters as well as alchemical ingredients. Durring a trip to Shivat, a chinese-esque country, the boat and all of the families investments were scuttled by a cartel known as the Black Sun, as a warning that the family needed to give them a cut of the buisiness.

The family that was there, my character and her direct parents, were stranded in a strange land, and eventually her parents made the decison to sell her to a local bar owner for money to get back home and continue the family buisiness; a regretfull but neccesary choice in their minds.

she only was able to handle it by deluding herself into thinking that she was 'special' and obviously better than everyone else, and that she was destined to be a princess with influence and wealth.)

She's gets on the party's nerves, especially the nerves of this one blind diseased dancer in our party who she has the strangest relationship with. Half the time she mocks the blind girl, and half the time she looks up to her like a big sister.

>.> Yea... I like deep characters... Anyways I have always been unsure of in-game RPing for MMOs. I'd be happy to try, but I'd hate to be a burden.

I'll go ahead and jump in as well. You'll find me at @moderncomet. I'm RPing fairly casually at the moment, as I'm still trying to feel out the mechanics of the game setting; I find characters more interesting and realistic when they grow organically from the setting. I'm not into the ERP scene though--sorry to disappoint there.

Well... I already mentioned it in another thread. I have plenty of experience with PnP. I also tried email RPGs a few times.

But I never RPed inside a MMORPG.

my characters are not realy outlined for RP though. But that can be fixed, I guess.

So, if you are happy with a newbie who learns quickly, I would be happy to join you sometime. Maybe someone could break down the usual way the RP works here. Feel free to PM me.

Likes and dislikes:
Well, I played a lot of PnP RPGs. Mostly Fantasy and Shadowrun, a few epic (like Vampire, old World and ARS Magica). I also played Starwars RPG a few times, Mechwarrior... I guess I can adopt to nearly everything. Except ERP.
I like to play characters which are slightly comedian. I also like to play trustful, a little dumb characters. I also like to play silly characters sometimes.
But I also like to play thoughtful characters which try to realize big plans. Or whatever.
I dislike "daywalker"-characters. I don't like to play harsh people or "fast forward" people (well, there are exceptions...)
At the moment I dislike "archtype" like fantasy-characters. I have played a lot of them in my first years. I also rescued the world often and killed the bad mage and his army of skelletons... If other people like to play them, I'm fine. I just don't like to play them myself.
Oh, and as english is not my native tongue I guess I would have problems with "ancient" english (fantasy)... Or talk like a pirat days ;)

I will not be able to RP with every character, because some belong to a duo with a friend of mine. And at least one is an alien who was never ment to speak :D

@laughing_wolf: I read your posts about adding the already named persons, but as I'm a newbie I'm not sure if I would fit in this easily.

There's never a reason to apologize for that. We all have our preferences and, as long as we're not actively discouraging someone else's fun, there's nothing to apologize for. And anyone you come into contact with should respect those preferences.

@laughing_wolf: I read your posts about adding the already named persons, but as I'm a newbie I'm not sure if I would fit in this easily.

Don't ostracize yourself for being new! :) I'll be honest, I have 80 names on my friends list, and... all I know is that most of them are from this thread. Maybe a quarter are friends I know, people I've met in-game, and non-RPers that I've picked up during some sporadic teaming I've done, helping people with quests and being helped. I'm not being rude when I don't say hi as people on my friends list log on and off... there's just so many of them and I know they're all there to form the foundation of a grand network where we all coincidentally find ourselves in a shard full of RPers.

When I rolled my first character on Virtue server of City of Heroes... some... years ago... (half a year before CoV came out, maybe)... I had never truly RPed in a game before. That definitely made me a newbie, despite having played pnp fror years. I was biased against text-based RP, thinking it could never develop and express complex character personalities. Turns out I was wrong. Point is, I think we've all been new to RP at one point. We should all be sympathetic to people learning the ins and outs of RP, as long as they truly are interested.

Oh dear. Ten pages of names, eh? Well, I do so enjoy a challenge... In the mean time, a brief introduction:

I've always been pretty casual with my RP, though not for a lack of interest in more serious, long term things so much as a lack of finding them. I'm also fairly laid-back, which usually (though not always) is reflected in my characters. I'm also going to warn you now: Not all of my characters are there for RP, some are for goofing off with. By and large I'm sure it'll all work out in the end.

Likes
-Organically driven stories. What am I talking about? Well, I'd much prefer a plotline to evole from what happens between the players involved then following a scripted set of events. Not to say a more structured approach is bad, but it's not the way I tend to do things.

-Sense of humor. Personally, I make everything a joke (within reason), and if you can't stand the occasional groaner, then you may not enjoy my company much. That said, I can be serious too.

-The "Getting to know you" phase. Meaning: I'm not going to know your life story after setting eyes (or sensors) on you for the first time, and it doesn't feel very natural to just blab your whole life story to a stranger now does it? One of my favorite parts of developing relationships between characters is what you find out about them, and when.

Dislikes
-Godmodding. I'm sure we all hate this, this being the term for someone else taking control of your character. Most prevalent in combat related RP, a good example is making an attack "undodgable" or telling you how it affects your character without letting you have an input.

-Fighting in RP. I'm not big on duking it out blow-by-blow, and most of the time things can be settled by words anyway.

-Breaking the OOC IC line. I'm not saying you can't be friends because your characters are, far from it. But if you dissagree with someone or have a problem with that character, don't go blowing it up in OOC. Ignore or resolve it in RP.

-Drama. Does anyone like drama?

That's about all I can think of at the moment, though I will mention I'm sick currently, and my job hours are erractic at best. Hopefully I'll see you all in the near future.

Adding myself here and a caveat:

@WhiteHowl - Loup Garou, my only character, (yes, you read that right), is the Alpha of the Pack sg, werewolf/human supergroup which is shaping up rather well. We are med-heavy rp group with some storylines weaving through our nemesis choices as well as being hunted by the Institute for Human Advancement (IHA). We rp ingame and also on the forums, and have networks with several other SGs for events and grouping when we need to take down something BIG.

I'm in the UK and therefore my timezone is somewhat wonky, so someone playing on EU time would be good. If you've played CoX you probably have seen him about - he's the same bloke much to the horror of the CO elite, but whatever, he's a good character and I enjoy him.

I like off the cuff rp sessions but you'll never see my character in Club Caprice - we use terrain out in the world or various saloons and fighting rings. He's got a restaurant (currently as a thread on our forums, but we hope to be able to create it for real ingame), and there are two dens which we use regularly to interact in, hopefully we will be establishing one in Monster Isle as well.

My character is a rather rough round the edges ex-death-ring fighter, he's currently on the wagon as he used to be a heavy drinker. He is Creole and so I try to portray that phonetically with spelling, but he's still understandable.

Looking for:
- I am not really going to specify much as long as someone is a decent rper and has no problem with Jean being from "somewhere else" as it were. Rp with him before you write him off; he's one of the best characters I've ever created in more years than I care to admit and I'm very fond of the guy.

One thing I AM looking for is some sort of anti-supernatural Zealot group who intends to go off on every werewolf/zombie they see in Blood Moon - as I think it might be cool for the Pack to be targetted by such a group, but this needs to be played WELL, and discussed in advance.

What I'm not down with in RP:

- "Hey, I have an idea for rp, I'll beat up on you and you just take it, okay?" Honestly, this isn't fun for me. You may be ten levels higher and PvP specced - and I will duel before I will do text-battles, believe me - and while I don't have a problem taking a fall, a character who is going to gloat about it regularly and do their utmost to beat on my character all the time is just flexing epeen, not rping. Count me out.

- "You can't play that because it wasn't in Comic 2,965.2! You're breaking the gaaaaame and my immersion ZOMG." Give me a break. It's a game, not a religion - there's so much fourth-wall breaking stuff in CO that one character's background shouldn't kill you. If you don't like that I'm from CoX, don't like that we involve the IHA in our storyline though they're not in the game yet, or some other point from obscure lore or what have you and feel the need to break in OOC to attempt to tell me so, please don't bother. I'll rp as I please.

- Homophobic need not apply. My character is a gay male, but NOT camp and very butch. Chances are you'd never know unless he told you. But anyone who is going to be ooc horrified, thanks, but no.

- nothing overly emo/overly silly, please; I don't do goofly slapstick rp; yes I have a sense of humour and it can be rather risque, but there is a time and a place (hence why I never hung out at GG or Pocket D very much). But then this goes for the other spectrum as well - "Why doesn't anyone like me?" conversations that happen all the time may spurn Jean to answer in a way you don't like much! Real has its ups and its downs, and those are welcome, as long as they're TOO up or TOO down.

I'll join in here too - @arukai

I have an extensive RP background (I am also a writer/poet/comic/general idiot) so I'm no stranger to getting into things and playing along, though my RL friends in my SG don't share my passion for it.

My main characters are Arukai and Amaia - cyborgs who, freed from a collective mind, are struggling to come to terms with life as individuals, knowing they can never be normal but also knowing they may never be trusted as superheroes, though there is little else that they can do. They often take in strays - androids and other cyborgs seeking refuge from a judgemental world - but they do feel in a world where society still doesn't trust such advances, and where Mechanon sours their attempts to break free and be seen as people, that it is a battle that they may never win.

Amaia and Arukai are very different characters so let me know if you want something specific. Amaia developed something of a personality based on many movie and historical references. She is a gun-toting action kind of gal, but often gets in over her head, and dislikes anyone who points out she is actually a cyborg. Arukai is way more serious, still clinging to his programming in some regards. He is not ashamed of being a cyborg, but believes that perhaps there is some sense in keeping a low profile and out of the spotlight, hoping that one day he will find and destroy Mechanon - and then all artificial life can start the slow process of rebuilding trust with the world.

I don't really hang around anywhere yet, but I love off the cuff RP if you happen to bump into me. Just three points - one, I don't do ERP. Two - I don't want people who are lorehogs, not that there's a whole bunch of things to weigh us down but this is a game and we as players are supposed to evolve it, not stick rigidly to it. And three - really, nothing patently offensive. You'll know what I mean, just keep it reasonably within the realms of good taste.

Other than that, I'm more or less up for anything.

@tylor77

I enjoy RP, it makes the grind far far less tedious having a heroic way of doing things, and offline, I'm about as unheroic as I get.

I enjoy most anything, each of my characters has a different way of reacting, so I tend to play them revolving around what part of my brain I'm more in touch with. Other than that, a lot of it revolves around how I'm feeling, but if you can deal with that, I'd love to have a few RPers to wander town with.

Lol. I'm not sure about stickying, but how about you edit your OP to include the suggestion that new visitors to the thread pick at least a half dozen names from the list to add to their friend list?

It's easy, just click on the poster's name (I prefer to open it in a new tab), click "Add so-and-so to your Buddy List", and then click "GO" in the little box that says "Add Friend". Okay, it's not that easy, it could certainly involve one or two fewer steps, but it's still just click, click, click.

So how does one actually get into some RPing without just inerrupting two people or a group and trying to join in seamlessly without an interruption? I've checked out the club but it looked like people were too busy and in their own story to have a stranger join in.

Also been on the PTS more than live, actually. Would you guys believe I heard somebody ask for RPing on test? It's not the real server. You're supposed to get on it to either test, or well PVP all day. I prefer to test bugs, though, like it was intended.

Also hi LW, I finally got around to looking for this thread. Yay.

For me, since I'm not RPing 24/7 and consider tells to be OOC by default, usually if you want to bug me about something, a tell is the way to go. I don't know how others do it though. For that matter though, I don't mind at all chattering with folks in general, RP or not, so just PMing me to say "Hi, I wanna show you a new costume" is fine with me.

Hehe. Awesome, and hi. :) Yeah, Sagittary's pretty good conversation, I've found. As to slipping into existing RP... sometimes the RPers are open to it, sometimes they aren't. Generally, though, if someone looks like they're busy in their own story... they probably want someone else to come in and be interested. :P

This doesn't have to be as self-centered as it sounds. It can quite easily lead to some interesting conversation, as long as that player is open to other characters having different opinions. I think I've referred at least a few people to this thread whose characters I'd quietly shifted my more social character into conversation with. (Which I will do so again, and more, once I get off my leveling kick.) Just take your character to a social place for whatever reasons, decide if your character is interested in the conversation there, react non-verbally initially, then laugh, groan, and interject as is in character. In other words, you're gonna interrupt them. Kinda how real life works. ;)

I'll throw my name in here.
Well... the forums will throw it in... just over to the left... a little higher... there ya go. :p

I tend to like more serious situations, but can adapt to most situations.

I have 7 characters at the moment.

4 of them I call the "Avatars" collectively. These guys are EVIL and will not hesitate to let you know it if needed.
So why didn't I wait to make them with some "Villain" version of the game? They're smart evil- they can't rule or claim credit for destroying the world if someone else does it first, and by generally helping out the population their job gets easier later on.

That and something about a demonic rebellion that I haven't worked out yet :D

One is an Ex-military Cyborg with a vendetta against Viper (Silvia)

One is a former Soldier from WWII (Kaiser)

One is too cliché even for me and needs to be remade :( (Eve)

All of my characters know at least one of the others so that they are all interconnected in some way.
I'm more likely to jump into an RP situation than start it up- but ya never know.
Emotes are overused on occasion, you have been warned...

On a more personal level of interaction; I'm just as likely to be IC when relaying RL info as I am to state something notable in relation to the RP session OOC- I try to make it obvious that I'm OOC.
I'm generally helpful if you need something that I can help with; but I don't give handout- I much prefer someone earn what they want with a little help and sacrifice some time than just give it to them right away.

Last on the list; I'm a very tolerant person of other people and the way they express themselves, I know many who are not so forgiving, and I tend to express myself in ways that other may or may not like at first. I acknowledge this and (most likely) do not intend to do so (of course, there are always exceptions). So if you take issue with me for any reason, please tell me instead of brooding over it and lashing out later. While I am unlikely to outright bend to your wishes I am certainly willing to find a suitable solution to the situation.

Sign me up as well.

As far as themes go, I tend to explore a good deal, spanning anything from the dark ages to the far-flung future, but I have a soft-spot for science fiction. I also tend to prefer characters that I can't immediately figure out. We all know the sorts. Someone sees an archetype, decides they really like it, then attempts to live the stereotype. Basically, I don't believe you should be able to trace a character's entire story within the first few introductory sentences.

That being said, don't be afraid to approach me in any capacity, save for what some call ERP. Just go on and keep that business to yourself..

Extra information that I forgot, because I forget things: I'm typically Out Of Character unless it's obvious that the folks around me are In Character. While role-playing, I'll make it obvious when I'm IC and OOC. Also, don

Awesome. Consider yourselves added to the thread, but don't forget to go through and add a few names to your friends list, so the network and this thread's efforts are realized in-game.

In fact... I wonder if we could have a few people volunteer as "hubs", of a sort. Players who spend a fair amount of time in-game ("fair" being subjective; for me, it means a few hours a few nights a week) and who would be willing to go through this thread and /friend more than half the people who've "signed up". I've noticed that a lot of players put their name on here thinking that the rest will see and friend them. Either that, or none of ya like me enough to /friend me. :P

So, if we had more hubs (I currently have 90 names on my friends list), that would strengthen the network intended by this thread. I'll be honest; there are drawbacks. I constantly see notices that people are logging on and off, and if someone gets that bug where you log into a black screen, and they log in and out until it goes away, you get to see that (and sympathize with them, cause it's very frustrating). That's... actually the only drawback I can think of.

If a half dozen people friend everyone in this thread and the rest only friend a couple... when one of those hubs is logged in, everyone who goes into the same zone as him or her will default to his shard. We'll have RPers standing next to us at the crafting tables before long.

Any volunteers?

I'm kinda shy IRL, and myy char seems to reflect that in games, even just walking aorund I have trouble approaching people.

And I'm around, but like 90 people friending me right now is just more than I can handle, so just a WARNING to people in the thread right now, I'm partial to friends to RP with but if you're gonna do it, please /tell me first and say hi and why. Otherwise I'm sorry.

Lol it took me 20 levels to meet a RPer in CO. Shame. If I could draw better I'd offer to draw Frank for you, LW. If only I could draw, though.

Sounds like a challenge to me. :) Expect a random PM from me at some point.

What works for me is, surprizingly, the emote wave and/or commenting on someone's costume or bio. Something as simple as "Nice costume" and a wave can be surprizingly effective. I find that people that bother to stop and wave back or otherwise respond with some depth are usually pretty open to general conversation. Maybe not friend list material but not everyone is.

Looks like sagittary got ya covered, but yeah, I'll see if you're online next time I go strolling for RP. I've been really intent on leveling the last couple weeks, but now that I've got dad higher level than daughter (again; she was just so much more fun until I tweaked his build a bit) I expect I'll be settling down to RP some more.

And no pressure on the friends list/hub thing. Don't want anyone feeling uncomfortable, really.

I will happily offer myself as a hub i play when ever i get the chance realy and havn't thus far been able to rp with any of you so hopefully by sending out some invites i can link up with you guys and get to some Role play going.

That's awesome, KayDrift. Any other takers? :D

I guess I'll toss my hat in since I'm already getting a bunch of folk from here anyway. :) Disclaimer: If I don't answer right way, it's probably because I'm trying to juggle 5 different conversations. :P

I'm not particularly experienced with game roleplay, I'm more typically a forum roleplayer, so I like to multi-paragraph in-game and try not to let myself be handicapped by the fact that there's a player name before anything I post. I'll RP pretty much anything with pretty much anyone interesting, although I don't enjoy one-liners or rapid scrolling roleplay, since it rushes me and lowers the calibre of my writing.

Particularly, I'd like to meet any villainous characters who might provide some conflict in an otherwise stale storyline. But, anything else is fine, too.

Find me at @neko_anastasia (obviously).

So you're a writer not an actor. :) Generally I find that RPers approach it in two general ways - they're either writing for a character or acting as that character.

Woop, added a few in here! Please accept me! I would write a longer intro about who I am and stuff, but I only have 5 minutes left before I have to go to work right now, so if I get the time later or tomorrow I might write one! Hope to see you ingame!

Hey, I've been looking for RPers ever since the beta. And I have still not seen any all the way through head start and up until now. I'm so glad that this thread is here. As soon as I saw it, I started sending out friend invites. This was a very good idea and I hope the list continues to grow so that others out there may know that they are not alone in the RP world.

I'm a long time RPer. I have done quite a bit in COX and email RPGs as well as a few forum RPGs. I think that RPing brings a whole new dynamic to the game and makes it fun. It's great to see what some people come up with. Their character concepts and the vast number of ideas circulating around.

My style varies from character to character and I can adept to pretty much anyone's style.

I can't wait to RP with you guys. Feel free to add me and contact me anytime.

@monkeyhead

I'm an old fart, which means I used to role play back when it was all done while looking at people from across a crowded table festooned with cheetos bags and Coke cans.

That said, I really like to RP my characters in game, through dialogue, attitude, etc. It's great for world immersion, and this is a nice, old, and really detailed world. I like working with it and folding my characters into the larger stories.

I don't have a preference, but I have so far only done RP in Caprice, in character conversations, and the like. I'm up for helping other characters in their grander schemes, but my characters tend to be more down-to-Earth and realistically handled, albeit with some humor. I like the tone of the Marvel Universe when people get together without their masks on, and I try to emulate that with my characters, i.e. "do we have a weird day job, or what?"

I've got three characters I'm actively cultivating personalities for in-game: Jill Scarlet, Brass Tacks, and Project Thermal. All three can be found on www.primusdatabase.com and should give you an idea of how I construct characters and to what degree of depth I flesh them out.

I will always respond to charcters In-Character. PM me if you want OOC stuff. Add me if you want to team up, or if you want to get to know one of my characters better. I'm easy like Sunday morning. I will join the CORPS channell as well.

See you all in-game!

Hah, one of the main drawing points to this game was the roleplay factor. I can't say I've done much recently but I used to do this in any game with individual characters, hell, I spent hours in the Barrens in ******** just hanging about and having fun, developing tales.

Add me, (Product,) I'm a rather literate kid, I love writing, and I'm a direct enemy to mediocrity and cliche.

Another old hand at RP. Been working the wordsmiths since I was a young lad and am ready to try my hand at this wonderful world. Add me via @Dualhammers

More info: I currently play a character that is human, with no super powers save for practiced expertise. He was a detective turned vigilante, turned freelance Hero. As his character progresses I've adjusted his costume to match. He originally wore his old leather trench coat, fedora hat, suit, and mask. Essentially his normal outfit but with a mask. After months of fighting crime, and getting his butt kicked by super villains, he has upgraded to something a little more lethal.

I enjoy most types of RP, and really enjoy anything beyond the cliches. Give me believable characters with depth and I am pleased. I am up for all types of game play, but I would like to join a good guild or society and get into some cooperative play.

I have never participated in RP, however I have been interested in getting involved for a while. I am into many "grander scale" type stories, supernatural, and anti-hero plots. I'm mainly looking to get something more from this game and have some fun.

Add me if you are interested in helping out a newcomer to RP.

Woot for all the new people dropping in and adding names. I got a couple of ya. :)

I've been out of the game for a few weeks, but has anyone noticed the "network" aspect of this idea working? Do you notice a decent population of RPers in the shards CO defaults you to?
