One good feature can be personalized emblems:
- Inside the Character Creator a new Section, an editor of emblems with similar options to this: http://www.rw-designer.com/online_icon_maker.php
- To protect the game in front of copyright infringement, or agression to other players, a report system. With this report system, Cryptic Studios receive a message when a emblem have many reports, and speedly can see the problem.
- A feature to save the emblem in the database of Cryptic, when Cryptic has approved the emblem. All the players can see the emblem and use it in their character.

I wish that even with the current emblems available, we could at least scale them bigger or smaller, and adjust them up or down on our hero’s chest/head….sometimes they just don’t sit right on the chest/head area and a tweek would be nice. :)

Or, give us loads of graphics that we can modify with sliders and combine in a series of layers to make our own custom emblem. I consider some sort of emblem creator very close to Essential. It's many heroes' trademark

What about simply an upload slot for a custom emblem....
Cryptic just gives us the specifications/restrictions the image needs to be and we use whatever editor we are comfortable with: photoshop, paint.net (Free), GIMP(Free), IconMaker, etc.
1) I think an upload slot is much easier to develop than a bunch of sliders and configurations (even if they are pre-fab) just for the emblem editor. Besides, I rather their efforts lean more towards improving gameplay and the current edior for the character.
2) This avoids complaints about how the potential emblem editor can't do rainbow sparkles and blood splatter brushes and freeform gradients.
3) Charge a moderate fee 25-40 bucks with the microtransaction system: A - The servers aren't bogged down by constant uploads and re-uploads if it were free. B - This will contribute to the payroll for a few people to approve the emblems to be family-friendly before they even make it into game. Even if the reviewer doesn't recognize if someone else's IP is being used, the said uploader still falls under EULA concerning copyright infringment. And, I am willing to pay close to $40 for my own emblem.
4) One upload per account to use with all characters to start (much like the avatar/profile pic of a forum). This can scale up over time, but I'm sure Cryptic may very well allow us to purchase as many emblem slots as we have character slots.

I agree with that, kind of like the Logo maker in guitar hero for your own band

GOD YES!!! I'd LOVE a logo maker like GH/RB too. For my heroine Mental Minx, I'd like to have the Psi icon with 2 Ms in front of it. The Emblem drop down list is SOOO constrictive.
But I'd also like to be able to import graphics. My SG, Extant Force (http://www.extantforce.com/), wants its members to wear an SG costume like XMen, and I think it'd be cool if we can import our symbol.

I agree, but ever since the release of the new emblem sets in the C-Store, it would be a while before Cryptic would implement that if they thought it was a great idea. Those emblem sets are utterly useless, IMO. I personally like the idea of personalized emblems however.

Yeah, this would make checking the image out easier for them, since it wouldn't even need to be available to you until after they've had a chance to verify it.

You might be, but I sure as heck ain't. For even $25 I'd need to be able to share it (allow it to be used by) a whole supergroup or dozen or two friends. I think a fee of even $5 per upload would be sufficient to keep people from abusing the system, and while that might mean not being able to support a dedicated staffer for the project, I could live with a week or so turnaround.
The corollary is, of course, that I *would* probably be willing to pay $20-$25 to create an emblem I could attach to a supergroup.
4) One upload per account to use with all characters to start (much like the avatar/profile pic of a forum). This can scale up over time, but I'm sure Cryptic may very well allow us to purchase as many emblem slots as we have character slots.
Well, if each upload costs $5, they wouldn't really need to limit the number of them per account. The fee would quickly far outstrip the storage and maintenance costs for additional storage, should it become necessary. But they might want to do so for management reasons anyway.

Placeable decals was on my wishlist as far back as the Cryptic days of CoH. With some (I think, but who know for sure other than a developer) fairly minor code for approximation and some reserved local cache space (and of course dedicated local caching for friends and sg-mates), it should be do-able. But I can see why it might not be so high up their list.

The problem with this is human nature.
Immediately we'll start seeing dirty logos and such for a game that's probably rated for the young years.
Just think of the **** storm that occurred with the "Hot Coffee" incident, I don't think Cryptic wants to even risk that. It will just take 1 kid to ask his mommie "what's that a picture of?" and it all goes to heck.
Then you'll have people posting copyrighted logos such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc. Some close approximations might already exist, but they're different enough to not cause a fuss.
Then you'll have people that are violating copyrights in general by using an image they found online. Believe it or not, some of those cool pics can't be used however you want.
It's best not to open that can of worms. They have a couple of sets that I'm sure already had to go through the Legal department before becoming available.

The problem with this is human nature..
This is essentially the reason why City of Heroes avoided it, even when requested just for Supergroups. Too risky as to what may make it into the game, and a potential resource hog for dealing with mis-use.
I remember there being some workaround to add a logo that only you or someone else with the added logo could see, but was seen as some generic logo to others playing.
Even an option to submit one to have it vetted would still take resources better served elsewhere, though I suppose there'd might be a pricepoint where Cryptic might consider it.

The best idea would be to create a system that uses the same technique as the Spore character model PNGs. What Maxis and the game does with their character model, is creating a little minimized image of it in PNG format, but here the secret igredient comes: they stores the model's information in the PNG. So you can even start the game, go into Creature Creator, minimize the game window, drag the PNG over the taskbar with the mouse (dont drop it, just wait for the game to appear again) and drag it onto the screen and release. The model will now appear at the screen in the Creature Creator.
So I thought, why don't Cryptic and the Champions team just create such a system? A system that involves making the custom emblem in Photoshop, making the background completly transparent, and then exporting it as a PNG, load it to their site that converts it and stores the information required in it. And then you have to pay like 2 or 5 bucks to get it into the game.
And any emblem uploaded and aproved to the game should be available for download for any account for free.
How's that!? :-D

Or a Cryptic/Champions plugin for Photoshop, making YOU able to store(I mean convert...) the information into the PNG, and then upload it, and let them aprove it after you paid for it, and it will be converted to game content.

With the target demographic the only thing that will come of this is a bunch of Captain Manhoods and Princess Perksalots with their "unique and clever" emblems.

Na, APB has the best custom clothing system and people totaly roll whit it. sure there are some who abuse the system but 99% of its players are super creative whit the symbols they create.
a more simplified system would absolute work great in CO. own emblems and even complete cossie parts could be made by the community (using basic models ) a full skin suit were you can define the color layers and a skin layer using basic symbols . CO has the engine for it.
c-store could sell more advance symbols for people to use in the "custom suit creator" and bigger pieces that are made off more then just simple skin layers still need to be made by cryptic and be c-store gear.
would be great to see this coming to CO.
( not that I would be able to use it having no c-store access due lack of payment options.. )
