View Full Version : Pre-Order should equal early start

Honestly. This is such a stupid idea.
Every other MMO I have played, which is pretty much all of them except the korean garbage, gives you early access with a pre-order.
Give ALL pre-orders early access.

I agree with you. For me, Early Access is the essential intangible perk for any MMO Pre-Order regardless if its a box or digital download.

I have to agree, cosmetic stuff you get from pre-ordering don't usually mean anything.
Most of them go unused anyways (I've actually not used a single piece of pre-order stuff I've gotten, except a bag in AoC).

Honestly, WTF is the point of pre-ordering OTHER THAN GETTING INTO EARLY ACCESS?
Getting in Open Beta??
IF YOU HAVE TO BUY SOMETHING TO GET IN, IT'S NOT AN OPEN BETA NOW IS IT?!

What's pathetic is the fact that so many are illiterate.

Here where it does not make since, preorder did not get in unless they paid for the 6 month or lifetime subs. Where the logic to leave the rest out of the big picture?

I don't understand your post. Pre-orders from certain retailers got into early start - preorders got into open beta... they even opened beta up after a few days. Sooo, preorders didn't get into what?
They probably made a business deal with the retailers that offered early start - money is the goal of any company after all. It was stated by both retailers AND CO website who got early start and who didn't. Yes, it sucks that some missed out on it. But, they are not going to change it because they probably have contracts with those retailers. :)

Yeah, If I can't get in tonight then I'm contesting charages and
getting it from Best buy tonight. ^^ The way things were advertised
it was more then confusing. I thought preorder's that came with beta
got the head start too..
Oh well, no probs here.
Must have CO... *Talks in zombie voice.*

Well, if you followed the same path as me you couldn't see that.
RSS reader (news about D2D offering preorder) -> D2D
There was no message on D2D saying "You won't have early start like the other games". Nor was such thing in the press release.
I guess some of us are used to have early start when pre-ordering... Now some will say "well just go to the official source to make sure". The answer is "Why?". The news is right there in my RSS reader. Maybe a better written press release would have helped?

Unfortunately, Cryptic lives in a world full of contractual obligation. They are not ALLOWED to let everyone in the early start.

Its very simple
Why did d2d preorders get early access when they made the the 6 month and lifetime orders but no one else?
Why was the rest of us left out?

They way head-start was advertised was convoluted and vague. I understood that
some pre-orders had certain items, but I thought open beta and head-start were
connected.
I'm not whining or anything cause I'm going to take care of it in my own way, but
I very much understand people being upset.

No retailer is ever going to list what they don't offer. I mean you'll never see Burger King have an add that says "Home of the Whooper, but if you want a BigMac you'll have to go to McDonalds."
I'm not sure what your press release said, the only thing I've ever seen from Cryptic about pre-order listed each retailer and what each one offered.
Now it is true that typically all pre-orders offer head start access. But we are not in typical times here, and retail is getting hammered by the rescission, so they no doubt are doing what ever they can to pull as many people into their stores as possible. Including offering stuff other places don't.
Also... This is the first time I've seen a MMO released with a direct digital option on day 1. WotLK which is the last thing I got at or near release didn't offer that until after a few weeks on store shelf's. Well I guess EVE didn't... it's been DL only until just recently.
So while it may be true that normally all pre-orders offer head start, buying a direct digital pre-order in a rescission is not covered by normal.

I'm not too upset except that I was rushed when I pre-ordered and ordered the wrong package from the Best Buy website, and didn't realize it and am therefore unable to get into the Early Access. Oh well. It just means that I don't get a few days of head start. In the end it doesn't make that big of a difference.

Yes, I get that. But CO could have specify that on their own website when the details went out: http://champions-online.com/node/112667

Maybe they couldn't... Maybe they were waiting to see if D2D would offer them the same thing that Bestbuy and Gamespot did. Maybe they just didn't think about it, and figured no one would assume getting head start when it wasn't mentioned.
Maybe they really are out to get you...
I get peoples frustration, but if you look at the pre-order page it's quite clear who gets what. I made sure when I pre-ordered I knew exactly what everyone had to offer so I could get the deal that offered me the most perks that I wanted.

I find it quite interesting that the description of what you get spells out exactly what you'll get by pre-ordering from D2D with no mention of early access. Wow, that's pretty clear that D2D does NOT get early access.

When I pre-ordered from D2D, there was NO indication which says " ONLY those who signed for 6-month and Lifetime subcriptions get Early Access".

The NORM for the MMO industry is pre-order = early access.
Wouldnt you find it odd if you bought a car, only to find out the tires werent included on that model? WHO THE FK DOES THAT?

The "norm" is also a relative term, essentially rendering it meaningless in a discussion such as this.
Also, your comparison has a flaw. Early Access is not vital to the function of the game that you are purchasing. A car without wheels is essentially useless, thus has no valid comparison to having to wait a few extra days to play.

If you pre-ordered it online you should have gotten an email with the code.
If you pre-ordered it in the store, they should have had little cards with the code on them.

<i>If you used a pre-order code to gain access to the Open Beta, you will automatically receive access to the Head Start program. Simply log in with your existing account information, and you will be ready to play upon completion of the patcher.</i>
But It still wont let me on, Plus at the top it says server down.....:(
