I know it sounds bizarre but MMOs need downtime and I've always found the socialising bit the area that keeps subscribers around.
Simply add some card games/arcade style games/etc. that two players+ can take part in when in specialised areas such as bars or specially designed games rooms.
They're simple and give people something to do when quests have dried up and they're bored.
It's not meant to be a game changer, just something simple like many websites have a games section to kill time etc.

Yeah I'd agree, interactive card tables would be pretty neat, don't really have to place rewards on em. Just something that helps drive community events in the social centers.
Could also be a good system to have in place to use for some future story missions. Where players mental stats could influence A.I. card player behavior.

I agree that mmo's like this type do need somwhere you can go and take a chill from thinking, calculating and planning. However, not such if this idea is the best way to go about it, somthing so untested in the world of mmo rpg's would be a big risk to take on, and would be alot of money and time involved too. unless you got a large petition for this, i don't see it coming if im honest.

As long as there is no saved or archived data or achievements (i.e. perks, leaderboards, etc, character progress) I can't percieve any major issues that would be exclusive to this feature that wouldn't happen with any other new feature implemented.
If we're going on the mindset of "the bang for your buck"; then well, There is plenty of longterm benefits to having a social feature like this in mmo's. One being, this would be the first mmo to incorporate it into their game. (People like being the first if it's a good feature) Another, would be that I could see this as a very cost-effective feature to incorporate considering the success gained from online social gaming sites like Pogo.
Rules are light and well known for many card games, and there is no licencing fees to incorporate these games.
Plus there is the added benefit of automatically providing a social presence to places like Club Capri where people can walk in on people emoting around a card table to find out an actual game of cards is being played.

That's exactly my point. It's just something that becomes available when hero gaming needs a break. Gaming websites are very popular and while no one would pay a sub for these games, it does give them something to do in their more social moods.
Many times I know players are a bit tired of missioning so they have the choice of logging out or seeing if there's something else going on and these would be perfect for that.
Plus it helps develop friendships and can create social areas.
