Been logging in and out and still stuck in this same damn screen! Have been for more than an hour now.

Still stuck at this freaking retrieving list of characters! Is this some record Cryptic is pulling on me? All my friends are on playing! Uninstalled and reinstalled and still this shows up! Not my pc anymore but some problems with Cryptic handling accounts.

Everything was working fine for me today. I logged out to make another character, logged back in, and now I'm stuck on the "Retrieving list of characters" message.

Nothing I do (closing, reloading, restarting) seems to remedy this issue.

Would be nice to get a comment on the issue and any tips for resolving this.

As an update, it's been something like 4 hours since I've been stuck on the "Retrieving list of characters" message. I'm guessing there's no set amount of time until it actually processes that bit.

Is this the kind of issue that is remedied after server maintenance? I suppose we shall see.

The big bummer here is that I'm missing out on so much early start content.

I was playing the game just fine earlier today, then logged out about 2:45PM Central time and came back home about 5:15 PM. When I booted up the game, it went through the patcher just fine, but it is hanging up at the character screen. You are not alone on this problem. I hope when they do the server matinence tonight it will clear this up.

What is it with this game? Now I'm stuck at retrieving character list. . .It doesn't seem like you guys have addressed any of the major issues. I was playing earlier today and now this. You guys haven't fixed the FPS issue or the graphic problems. This is ridiculous. You throw out there a 6 month or lifetime subscription, but why would I want to even purchase the game if these things are not fixed or let us know the progress. I'm sorry but I needed to vent. . .

Im also having this problem my bro was playing his character no less then 5 minutes ago and logged out...
now i cant log in kuz im stuck at retrieving character list...:mad:

Yeah, they have a problem for sure with the server. I really do hope the maintenance they are going to do later clears this up. :confused:

That's the scary part for me... we've got, what? Two more days on this early start? I work all day on Monday, so I was hoping to do some in game exploration this weekend - and timezone-wise, my ideal hours of gaming just so happens to fall into the server maintenance times.

Here's to hoping that server maintenance will fix this problem.

Well it is after 2PM Central and I am still stuck at retriving character screen. In fact, I left it up before lunch and got back from grocery shopping and it is still there. I am pretty sure we are not going to see any playing time today. If we do, I would be surprised. :mad:

Well, not got the exactly the same problems - but it can take 5 minutes to start playing my single character - then i just get rubberbanded around before being killed by the local radiates - it's now 2030 in the UK - the game was fine this afternoon but it needs to be able to cope with folks logging on in the UK during the evening - the rest of the web seems to be fine

Well... it's a brand new day and my support ticket hasn't been answered yet. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to access my character.

From what I've been reading, this is an issue that carried over from beta. Can we get word on a fix perhaps? The early start is fading away and I'm wondering whatsoever was the point...

How about a support number?

Edit:

I found the support number, but apparently, they're closed on weekends. Does this mean that we're not going to get this problem solved today?

I am starting to think that they are using the "Head Start" Weekend as a form of stress testing, and from the looks of the other posts here, people are starting to get some serious problems as well. Cryptic must be very hard up on cash to throw out an unfinished product like this, but then I think being owned by Atari must have a hand in this decision.
Now, granted, this is the weekend and people are probably off, but if you launched your title over a weekend, I would think it would be all hands on deck kind of event. I think it is an half @$$ approach to this problem. This is the last time I am going to ***** and complain about this, but it is pretty sad to see such a great game have such poor response time in trying to respond to customer issues. :mad:
I hope the "Real" launch goes better on Tuesday.

I also get the Retrieving Character List after I've been playing since the 17th with crappy FPS and screwed up graphics. I find something that might help with the FPS and I can't get on. Well if Cryptic can't fix anything then maybe while there in church today they might want to ask for a miracle and hope that miracle fixes everything come Monday morning while I still have a little HEAD START time left. Pre Ordering this game from GameStop was a complete waste of time. . .

I would think, that since this is an EARLY START WEEKEND, everyone would be working on tending to all the current issues.

I'm really glad I didn't go for those subscription options, and I feel sorry for all those who purchased the $199 lifetime subscription, especially if they can't login during the early start weekend due to many of these issues.

I'm sure many of us here pre-ordered just to get in to the Open Beta and Early Start events to get some of those limited once in a lifetime rewards. But now what?

As Icicle said, another potentially great game, marred by terrible customer support.

I've been having a similar problem all weekend.

I keep getting stuck at "Connecting to Login Server." It's weird, if I input a wrong password, I get an immediate notification, but when I enter in the correct one, the game just hangs there and then the Login server times out, then kicks me back to the login screen.

Sent in a ticket, got the generic "thanks for your patience" response.

I've tried connecting at different times of day, turning off firewalls/antivirus, but still nothing seems to help. I chose Gamestop because of the headstart, and I haven't been able to play at all. :(

the thing is that this isn't a networking issue. This is a data retrieval issue cause by characters that were never fully created, and never given a name. This creates a null set for the name of the character which in turn makes the server freeze up when trying to retrieve the list of characters.

i FULLY created my character and reached level 13 and i get this message so you are most likely wrong..

I've had this problem for about a day and a half now. It's super depressing listening to my friends having a good time playing Champions while I can only get as far in the game as "Retrieving list of characters." I did not realize that a giant monkey with a smiley face on his chest could be so elusive.

same issue here and it is now 11:18pm.
A little off topic but...
Also 2 seconds right before this problem, I was creating a new male toon, decided I didnt like how he ran so I deleted the toon, lag started and made me deleted the wrong toon (a higher level toon which I had to rerolled twice already). Sent a ticket hopefully they can help out.

Ok, so after two days of waiting, I finally get a response on my ticket for this issue:

Here's my original ticket message:

After the login, patch, and Giant Gorilla load screen, the game seems to get hung up on the "Retrieving list of characters" message, with the music theme just playing on the background.

I can log in to a friend's account without trouble, but it appears to be a problem with mine.

Now, what do they mean there's lacking information to get an accurate picture? This problem has existed since beta, and has been undoubtedly been brought up on a number of occasions.

I think we're just being ignored.

What worries me is how a company the day before the official launch of the game do not know how to solve this problem. It's unbelievable to me.

Same problem here, although this is obviously after the 'head start' In reply to someone earlier, i also deleted my highest toon because of lag - i believe this is why you need to type the toons name now and not just 'delete'

But yeah, i've been stuck on the retrieving character llist for at least 20 mins now, and it was working fine last time i logged on, also I have made 0 changes to my account, so yeah go figure.

Let's put it this way, i am also glad that I didn't go for a life time subrsiption, and will probably returning to warhammer age of reckoning, which seems an all round better game. Thanks for nothing, cryptic.

Don't feel bad now I cant even get to the retrieving character screen it cant even connect to the login server.... Come on Devs I have read other posts where this is a long standing problem from beta. THIS is why I don't purchase lifetime memberships to new MMO's

Same here....I know its the weekend, and people like having the weekend off....but the server is probably busiest DURING the weekend....so wouldn't it make sense to at least have people "on call" to come in and work in case of a problem like this?

Anywhere else, people work to serve their customers needs...any retails stores highers EXTRA help on the weekend, because the customers have the weekends off.

Tv news works the early morning and late evening because that is when the views have the time off to watch.

It is all about catering to what is convenient for the customer. And right now I feel like we have no priority whatsoever....I'm really thinking about putting this game in the trash for good, only because of the crappy customer service.

So seriously how long till Foxbat releases the hostages??? ok now for serious whats going on DEV's?? how long does it take to get this fixed this problem has been ongoing for quite a while today and no fix yet when can the players expect to be able to login and play the game they pay for?? dont get me wrong im not flaming you guys here I know the game is "NEW" but come on these are issues that you should have a plan to fix if not completely prevent... so how long till we can get to our characters and play? :confused:
