View Full Version : How to Get Ironclad to Talk for the "We Are the Champions" Perk?

Greetings,

I've been having trouble with this both during closed and open beta, and now during the head-start as well... I've submitted bug reports but nothing seems to have changed so I'm not sure if this really is a bug or if I'm simply doing something wrong.

For the "We Are the Champions" perk you are required to talk to a few different Champions... One of them being Ironclad. However, the only place I can find Ironclad is in front of the Champions HQ building in the tutorial zone where you're supposed to protect the canon (the open mission), but I can never get him to converse to mark him off on this perk. I can get all the other Champions just fine, just not Ironclad.
Am I doing something wrong, or am I missing something, or what? Does anyone know how you get him to converse with you to complete this perk?

I couldn't get it to check off on the perks list; But, sure enough, after talking to Witchcraft outside the champs HQ I got the perk anyway.

... So, I think you're going to be OK even if you don't get the check.

I got the perk even though I did not directly talk to Ironclad. Maybe you just have to be close to him.

That's strange, because that never worked for me in the closed or open beta. Even after talking to Witchcraft, and even after going to Canada or the Desert, I'd still have the incomplete perk with Ironclad being the only one left I needed to talk to...

Alright, me again--- Let attept to clear this up. It appears that talking to Ironclad is checked off after you watch the "launch the Ironclad" cutscene in the champs HQ.

You get him during the cut scene that completes the final quest.

Hmm... Well, I guess I'll try it again. Though like I said, even in beta I'd still have Ironclad unmarked on the perk, showing I'd never talked to him. But it could've been a bug, or a minor "hiccup" or something...

Interesting You do get to talk to him on monster Island.. but thats a long way off and subject to change from Beta.

I, too, had a problem gaining this perk in beta. When live hit and it came time to do the Launch Ironclad scene, I waited for Defender to quit speaking, gave it a few seconds, then activated the console. Then I didn't touch ANYTHING until the scene was over, and even then, I waited a few seconds. I checked my perk list, and voila, I'd gotten Ironclad checked off!

Hope that works for you guys.

I think the trick is to watch the cutscene in the HQ, I got the perk everytime.

Ironclad gets checked off after you use the Ironclad Launcher in the HQ.

As others have said, when you launch him out of the cannon you get credit for talking to him. This was bugged for a time in beta, but they patched it up during OB so that it would work properly.

I don't care how its worded/sspoken in game, it's not iron clad that is luanched, its a freaking huge ass shell, unless he's inside of it?

In fact, Sapphire and Kinetic are the only ones you need to make any effort at all with. Ironclad and Defender happen automatically, and Witchcraft is right in front of you at the end.

Talking to Ironclad doesn't count within the Tutorial. You'll need to find him outside of the tutorial later in the game in order to get credit, I believe.

Actually there are two ways. One is to talk to him outside during the open mission. The window to talk to him had become extremely small based on revisions to the mission, so we needed a better way for players to get the perk. When your team launches Ironclad in the Champions Headquarters, everyone on the team gets credit for that part of the perk. Solo players are on their own team and get it then too :)

Actually, you get credit for talking to him when you launch him. That's how most of my conversations end anyway, launching the other person out of a giant cannon. Not always at an alien ship, though :) After that, you can talk to Witchcraft at the Celebration and you'll have completed the Perk.

Near the mayor at the very begining.

Sapphire is right in front of the Mayor toward the beginning of the Tutorial.

By the mayor's tent in the tutorial. She takes off and flies around for a little bit then lands for a breather. While she's on the ground, ask her about perks. That will get you the perk credit.

He is indeed...you will notice a hollow shell in the Ironclad open mission.

Yeah, I was a bit confused about this the first couple times I did the mission, but I understand it to be Ironclad himself being fired at the ship. It's not unprecedented for superheroes either. Any time you have an indestructible hero or heroes facing off against huge flying ships, chances are high at least one hero is going to be a projectile.

For me, the real question is this: Giant alien ship gets critically damaged by a massive hero-projectile, isn't it going to come crashing down on the city and destroy a huge area? The other possibilities I can think of is that somehow Ironclad-bullet ends up vaporizing the ship (seems unlikely), or that the ship is just damaged badly enough that the aliens decide to leave and the ship flies away.

If you go look in MC by the docks, you will see a crashed Mothership...apparently it fell into the bay.

I missed Sapphire in the Tutorial. Is there any way I can meet her out in the world and have it count for credit towards the perk? Or is it just going to be a not completed perk sitting in my tray for the rest of my character's career?

is Ironclad's voice done by michael dorn aka Worf from Star Trek TNG?

My interpretation was that Ironclad was inside the massive shell you fired at the mothership.

Once onboard, he fought his way to the engine/control room and crashed the ship into the river.

:)

Yeah, I guess you do get Ironclad checked off once you launch him from the monitor after all. First time I've actually gotten him marked off... Woo-hoo! :p

Ooh, cool, didn't know that, haven't explored Millenium City as thoroughly as I'd like to yet :) Kudos to the developers for thinking of details like that :D

Curious about this myself...
I thought I chatted with Sapphire but I guess I didn't ><

I talked to Sapphire as well and it didn't register. I went back and talked to her again and made sure to choose a topic to talk about ("Perks" go figure) from her initial dialogue box and then it finally marked off in my list.

Late in the Open beta, during the event I believe, Ironclad began to give credit for talking to him when you launched the Ironclad Defense inside Champion's HQ. I only had one toon get it throughout all of beta.

I don't think it's him, but it does sound a lot like him.

I noticed he's doing the voice of Optimus Prime in some of the Transformer's toy commercials. I guess Peter Cullen, being a big movie star now, isn't interested in doing commercials anymore.

Eh, the man is getting on in age (68), and getting VC roles tossed at him left and right. There comes a point, where you have to make choices, especially, when you do want to have a regular family life as well. So cut the man a little slack. ;)

Just launch him, it will count.

And you'll meet him again on Monster Island. The only missable champion at the moment is Sapphire.

How the hell are you guys getting credit for Kinetik? I have credit for every other champion, and I've done every single quest offered by Kinetik in MC (so far, at lvl 22), and it simply will not give me credit for talking to him. Do you have to talk to him somewhere else, or what?

You need to rescue him in the tutorial. There is a police car just south of Silverback that's a glowie. Click it and you get the mission to rescue Kinetic. He's in a cage between the buildings to the east of the police car.

Now in theory you should be able to get credit for him if you see him outside the tutorial, but I guess you're saying you don't. Probably worth /bugging.
