Hey everyone,
If you're still experiencing performance issues (that is, slow framerates, NOT rubberbanding), try turning off your UI and see if that improves your performance.
To turn off your UI: Alt+F12
To check your FPS before and after: /showfps 1 (/showfps 0 to turn this off)
Post in this thread with your system specs, specifically:
CPU
Video Card
RAM
Is there a noticeable difference when you turn the UI off?
Thanks!

RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
At minimum settings, there was a significant improvement with the UI turned off, maybe 5-10 fps more, possibly 15 fps more in some cases. At higher settings it was less pronounced, and the framerate was still dreadful with or without the UI.
For comparison, with the UI turned on and running at absolute minimum settings, I average about 15 fps, with pauses and single digits while using travel powers.

I am getting around 30-34 fps standing completely still in MC. The second a car or something comes on screen, it goes down to around 26-27 fps. Once I started to swing around the city, my fps ranged from 12 to about 27. Using superspeed, running at full speed, I range from 0-10 fps, never getting higher than 10. (which is pretty much unplayable) and I don't even have my settings maxxed. I have the comic shading turned off, and have set my shadows to low.
I do not really notice any big difference with the UI on or off. When I am moving my fps is bouncing around way too much to get a very accurate measurement.
I am running an intel Q6850 processor. 3.0ghz core2 extreme
dual Nvidia 8800 GT's in SLI 512 meg ram each
and 4 gig of RAM
Update: My fps gets drastically better the higher I get off the ground. Standing still on top of one of the buildings in the ren center I am getting between 40-45 fps, and I can get between 35-50 fps while swinging. (can't really test superspeed up there) If I stare at the sky while swinging I can get up to just over 60 fps.
Update 2.0: I am running Windows 7 RC, someone in game said that they fixed their problems by switching back to Vista. Has anyone else reported problems with win7 specifically?

I've got the settings at "recommended", though I may have tweaked a few things (shadows are set to low, for instance). Standing in Millennium city, with nothing going on around me but passing cars and pedestrians (no special effects or other heroes running around), I'm getting about 41 FPS with the UI active. Certainly playable, but I would have expected more with my rig. I AM running at 1920x1200, though, so maybe that's where I'm getting greedy.
With the UI off, standing in exactly the same spot, it jumps to 50 FPS. A pretty significant increase.

While turning off the interface helps a lot, there is still a significant amount of performance loss when flying over Millenium city as the buildings load.
I feel like the interface is drawing performance from the GPU, but the CPU issues (which mean that turning down the graphics option do nothing still) are still there.
Nice going though, here's to hoping for a complete fix sometime soon!

Slide the video option slider down to the fastest settings (which will be ugly-- that's OK, this is for diagnosis of the problem).
/showfps
Have your character look at the ground
wait ten seconds
write down the fps and ms/frame (all numbers shown in the upper right)

I just ordered a new graphics card, but now I'm worried it won't make a difference, because I just checked yesterday, and the cpu is between 99-100% while the game client is open. Is this normal, or should it be divying out more info to the GPU than this?

Turning off the UI boosted my framerate by at least 10, in some cases 15-20. I found myself minimizing the chat, due to a nice 5-7fps increase that really smoothed the game out. Smooth wins out over communication everytime.

Side-note: I've experienced this before with EverQuest 2. They still haven't fixed it, though. Is it that hard to create a fully fleshed out UI without (in some situations) overwhelming framerate drops? I mean, if I'm hitting 45fps without the UI, that means that I might go as low as 25 with it on. Not exactly optimal.
It was a serious question, by the way, I have no idea how interface programming works.

With UI off it's acceptable performance, but I'd honestly expect a little more out of my hardware.

OK here we go:
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2
RAM 4GB
OS Windows Vista 64Bit
-------------------------------------------------
UI on, all settings down, looking down
~59.5 FPS - 16.7m/fm
My graphic cards analysze tool says: GPUs running at 36% activity
-------------------------------------------------
UI off, all settings down, looking down
the same values, as with UI turned on
-------------------------------------------------
With my standard settings, running around, UI on
~29-50 FPS - 25m/fm
My graphic cards analysze tool says: GPUs running at 91% activity
-------------------------------------------------
With my standard settings, running around, UI off
still no changes
So without stress I get OK FPS, but what I realized (don't know if it got to do with that):
In the character creator, I get OK FPS but my GPUs are running at 99% activity, both collants running at high speed. As soon as I keep a slider in the creator pressed (be it eye-glow, or the site sliders for body/face), the FPS goes down to stutterung rates (I guess 10 FPS) and the GPU activity drops to 25%, cooling getting low. As soon as I let loose the slider (I dont have to move the slider for this to happen, just keep the slider "active" - mouse pressed) the cooling pitches high, activity back to maximum, but framerates fine too.
Maybe its not the UI per se, but UI-activity?

I run at 1920x1080 with game settings left at the default 100%, but have the auto-adjusting mechanism turned off in the Troubleshooting section because it actually slows the game down instead of speeding it up like it should.

Have your character look at the ground
wait ten seconds
write down the fps and ms/frame (all numbers shown in the upper right)

Looks like I missed this post first time round.
Here's the info you asked for...seems there have been some improvements to fps in the past two patches.
UI on, looking at the ground with slider set to Fastest :
75.12 fps (13.0m/fm) This is the first time I've seen a frame rate this high, but obviously it dropped to 20-30 when I looked back up and started moving around again.
UI off, looking at the ground with slider set to Fastest :
115.36 fps (8.8m/fm).
As above, that is a massive increase to normal, but the game looks like crap, my PC is capable of much more, and it drops considerably when I start moving - and of course playing without the UI is clearly not an option.
Intel Dual Core 2.5Ghz
4GB DDR3 RAM
NVidia 9800GT 512mb card

It's clear the UI is seriouly affecting people's performance, along with other things like putting more pressure on the CPU than the GPU.
Here's hoping this gets sorted. :)

I can run the game on almost-maxed specs (minus FSAA) with an FPS that's usually anywhere from 5-20.
Anyway, to cut to the heart of the matter, disabling my UI doesn't increase my perdormace by any noticeable difference.
Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

Thanks!
Daeke
This is at the recommended settings, nothing changed. I'm looking around as if I was actually playing the game. These aren't the exact numbers I get most of the time, these are only the peak FPS I usually reach.
25 FPS (40.0 m/fm) with the UI turned on
35 FPS (28.0 m/fm) with the UI turned off
I actually left the game running for a few minutes with the UI turned off and after awhile it dropped down to 25 FPS for some reason and wouldn't go over 30.
Again, with the recommended settings only I used poz's suggestion/steps of looking at the ground.
35 FPS (28.0 m/fm) with the UI turned on
60 FPS (16.9 m/fm) with the UI turned off
Hey all, I'm in particularly interested in UI performance. If you are in game (not sure if the shard is up right now), please try the following.

35 FPS (27.9 m/fm) with the UI turned on

My FPS jump anywhere from 5 an extra 5-30 FPS depending.
Also running the game on only one of my processors as opposed to using both of them gives me a large performance boost as well. Hope you get this ironed out soon, very annoying.
EDIT: Using the FASTEST settings and looking at the ground my frames were followed
38.0 (25.9m/FM) With UI Enabled

INCIDENTAL OBSERVATION: With the UI enabled, especially ... my FPS slowly, but erratically, IMPROVED as I left PHYSICAL proximity to other players, regardless of theri visibility.

ANECDOTALTESTIMONY: Generally speaking, I am used to dipping to the 3- frames per scond level whenever I travel, and there's a player character ANYwhere ahead of me. Large numbers of "static", contact- and vendor-type NPCs seem to have a similar effect (flying in to Steelhead, to get to Justiciar, is always a NIGHTMARE - it's supposed to be "frames per second", not "seconds per frame").
SUBJECTIVE GUESS: I think it's more than just the UI. I think it's also somethign to do with other players - network traffic maybe, relating to players telling each others' client "I have parts A, C, F, and G colored like so" ...? Hence mentioning my internet connection speed, above.

Thanks!

I get 25 frames a second MORE when My ui is disabled.
Who ever you are, what ever you do, you nailed it. THE UI is the problem, with no doubt. I go from 20 frames standing still to 45 just by turning it off, hell i'm able to keep my frames in the green while using my travel power as long as its off.
MY GUESS? the mini map is taking up a lot of resources.. but who knows.
I hope you guys fix this sooon, because it's bad. But atleast now I can bind e to turn off console and use it while superrunning lol

I just tested this on both the Maximum and the Minimum settings. On the Maximum setting I only noticed about a 2-5 fps increase when disabling the UI. However on the Minimum setting I noticed about a 50-60 fps increase. Both tests were done in Project Greenskin on the same shard.

I don't get any performance increase by turning off the UI, none at all.
I've tried turning Threaded Optimization from Auto to Off as said in the other thread, but didn't help.
Tried turning off SLI to a single GPU, didn't help.
Tried using motherboard GPU, lost about 15-25 FPS
Turning shadows from high to off increased my FPS up about 5-10 frames
Not much else really increases framerate much.
Just a word of advice about Cinematic Focus (depth of field) graphics option:
Turning it off really made the image "pop", it looks much sharper, more detailed, almost like the resolution was higher. The default setting for me was turned on, I personally think it should definately default to OFF, as this could be a possible framerate increase for some people as well.
Yea, framerate is pretty bad, I think it was better pre-headstart but didn't bother to check my FPS then.
Current framerate with "recommended" settings 1920x1080 with shadows turned off:
20-30fps standing still and rotating display in the hub of Disaster in the Desert area, where the soldiers on the stretchers are.
Awesome graphics, though I hope by release Cryptic can figure out how to make the game run a lot smoother for us having issues to give all inclusive new players a really good impression. Plus, sucks for me to have to play with unstable and in-the-red FPS

Well i tried the UI off and on and there is no differance for me. The game plays pretty well . I came here trying to find out if this game would use 4 cores on a cpu as it maxes both my cores 100% while in the game. As far as the sliders being maxed past 100% i messed with them and the only one i see a differance for the most part visualy in the game is world detail lvl. Antialiasing is a killer. Mine is set at 2x. Setting it to off is a tad faster but in a game like this with all the buildings i prefer to have it on somewhat and like i said in earlyer post bloom is off and shadows on low. Thing is even though the fps stay what would seem to be good for this game around 30 at lowest to an average in the 40's - 50's it still seems like its not as smooth as it should be when turning around fast while playing. Like it drops down way low a split second the goes back up. Small hickups. I wonder if the fps tool doesnt update fast enough to se that?

Definetely a difference with the UI turned off. Details as follows...
Location: Standing in Project Greenskin staring at the Grond statue.
FPS with UI turned on: ~ 31-35
FPS with UI turned off: ~ 50-53
Thats a 20 frame jump which is significant.
Other things to note:
When I open the options panel and the video options, my FPS drops from 31-35 to 27-31. Just from opening and extra window. Looks like the graphics are integrated with the UI instead of the UI just being an overlay and thats a major part of the problem. Even with that said, it should be at most a 5 FPS hit, not 20.
Also my BIGGEST complaint is the massive stuttering when using my travel power. I'm sure it has everything to do with the game not drawing the characters fast enough at high velocity. This doesn't happen at all with normal running, only when using travel (my travel of choice is superjump).
This happens regardless of UI on or off, video settings maxed or minimum. And its very annoying.
Unfortunately I believe this problem wont be fixable .

The UI seems to cost about 4ms/fm on other settings too.
On almost maximum settings, i get a decent 35-60fps with the camera still. But changing the view is when I experience terrible performance. I guess i don't know what kind of numbers i should be getting for my system, but this occurs on Recommened settings badly still so something must be wrong. The frame rate can drop as low as 1-5 fps if i rotate the camera rapidly, which is really irritating as the game noticeably lags and stutters. It returns to normal within 10sec with the camera still .
From reading other forums posts: I turned off Threaded Optimisation in Nvidia control panel which improves static fps but not the above problem. Setting the clients processor affinity to only 1 core makes things worse for me (100% useage on that core).
I have to set World Level Detail very low to minimize the lag when changing view :( The problem seems to be something with switching between Level of Detail and/or View direction/Frustum culling etc. My client never seems to use more than about 500mb of memory (doesn't exceed 52% total system wide useage), Is there some Agressive memory management in operation? Perhaps object/buildings etc are being unloaded as soon as they go offscreen, hence causing delays if i turn to view them again as they have to be reloaded into memory / onto the GPU.

When I first started the game was choppy and laggy and I couldn't see my mouse. I needed the mouse tricks to fix it so I can try to change my other freaking settings. Adding -softwarecursor to the Advanced command line in Options did the trick for a while but the pointer went away again eventually every time.
The Resolution was set to like 800x600 and the Quality was maxed by default. I had nothing but framerate issues at first so I set the Resolution to match my desktop at 1900x1200 and lowered the quality to about a Third. No frame rate issues what so ever now! and the graphics are okay also fixed my pointer issue. I still get frame Rate issues if I set my quality to 2/3's. It seems to jump in thirds.
I understand there is an issue with the WinXP64 RealTek Sound Drivers. I got lucky, My G35 Logitech Headset has no issues. I'm betting other USB headsets will have as much luck but that's certainly no fix.
And then Of course there is the fact that it's been 95 feaking degrees in my apartment here in LA since the freaking AC is out. OCing the processor the way I am Results in occasional shutdowns right now.
Anyway best of luck hope that helps some of you guys.

Well I am currently playing on Maximum settings at 1680x1050 getting 50-70fps with all detail sliders maxed. Antialiasing is at 8x, Shadows High, Reflection High, Bloom High.
I have disabled or reduced a few settings to improve performance, and because I don't really care for some of them anyway (Like Comic-style Outlines).
Things I have turned downed or disabled:
Lighting Quality - Low (With this on High I get about 30-40fps, with it on Low I get 50-70fps)
Screen-space Ambient Occlusion - Off (Haven't really noticed any difference with this on or off)
Cinematic Focus - Off (I don't like the hazy effect on distant objects)
Underwater View - Off (Again I don't like visual distortions, even underwater)
For the most part I can run the game with most important details turned all the way up and it handles pretty well. Only problems I've really run into is a bit of lag and rubberbanding... which I assume is the servers.

I acheived around 30-40 fps at the recommended level of graphics options (on the slider) by carrying out a few simple actions.
Update your graphics driver.
Changed several settings on the Nvidia control panel - these changes can be found here :http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=47420
Turned the lighting options to "Low" in the Video settings in Champions: Online.
Before I carried out these actions I was only able to feesibly play with all the graphics turned to their lowest settings at about 30 fps. Any increase in graphics options would drastically lower the fps but now I can play with relatively high settings.
I highly recommend anyone with problems follow the actions I have taken and see the results.

My wife and I have 2 very similar systems...
System 1:
Intel Q6600 OC'd to 3.33 Ghz
EVGA GTX295
8 Gig Memory
Vista 64
System 2:
Intel Q6600 OC'd to 3.00 Ghz
EVGA 9800GTX
4 Gig Memory
Vista 64
Both systems with all detail sliders maxxed with the following exceptions:
Comic Outlines OFF
Ambient Occlusion OFF
Cinematic Depth of Field Focus OFF
All the troubleshooting options such as Framerate stabilization and such, OFF
BOTH systems get FPS that is nearly identical....between 10 and 24 average in a heavily populated area with lots of stuff going on. For example, both systems get 20-24 average in Canada outside of force station steelhead...or...both systems get 20-24 average in the Desert in Project Greenskin.
Both systems never have greater than 65% utilization on any one core.
Both systems have core temps that would not indicate any core being 'pushed'.
Both systems video card temps indicate VERY little use of the video card. As a matter of fact, the video card temps are only a few degrees higher than idle.
Neither system shows any significant FPS increase with the UI off
I would expect the system with the 3.33 Ghz clock and brand new GTX 295 video card to at LEAST MARGINALLY outperform the system at 3.00 Ghz and the 9800GTX...however this is not the case...both systems perform near identically. At times, the 3.00 Ghz system with the 9800 GTX actually outperforms the faster system with the better video card.
To benchmark, we jumped into Fallout 3 and also tried LOTRO. Frame rates were silky smooth on both systems. As expected, the 3.33 Ghz GTX 295 system fairly significantly outperformed the 3.00 Ghz 9800GTX system.
Even aside from the systems in my own home, this game seems to be bringing VERY strong systems to its knees in ways I have not seen outside of the tales of Crysis (Which I do not own)...however....in my opinion....the visuals in the game simply do not warrant this type of performance hit. The graphics, effects, models, and animations are very nice but they simply are not anything that is so "next level" compared to other current games that it should be performing this way. On top of that, the zones are heavily instanced (30 or so folks per instance it seems) and with that, you'd REALLY think the performance would not be THIS awful.
The above is nothing more than some raw info in the interest of helping the devs to fix this thing as its obvious that 'something' isn't working correctly.

The game definetly needs to be smoothed out, my computer isin't that great but I can run almost any game on decent settings and still have no trouble with lag or anything.

EVGA NVIDIA GTS 250 1 Gig onboard ram
3 Gigs of memory (capped by 32 bit OS)

Most commonly, my game runs choppy. What I have noticed however using my NVIDIA utilities and task manager: I only use 52% total system ram, I use 92% shader ram on my GTS, I use 98% processor power when the game is running.
What I'm hearing now is that the game is not multi-core friendly? If not this really needs to be addressed. If that ends up optomized I'm sure the game performance complaints will sizably fall away. As I'm sure my biggest problem is processor power. But last I checked, my processor is more than beefy by Crysis standard.
Oh, and my performance goes up by about 8fps with the UI turned off. but it still chugs at about 12- 20fps when I'm running through Millenium City with superspeed on.

Not so with Champions.
20-30 fps with UI
50-60 without
But it will still drop down into the single digits as soon as I start running around or encounter more then a couple other players. And thats with the UI on or off settings min or max. Also I seem to get slightly worse performance with the 190.62 drivers so I rolled back to 38s. Have also tried all of the tricks mentioned in the beta forums before they were wiped. Video: GeForce 9600GT
I'm running the game at the "recommended" setting. In areas of high traffic I'm lucky if I get single-digit framerates. If I'm just standing there I get *maybe* 12 FPS. Moving around is usually around 8-10 FPS. Knocking off the UI bumped that slightly, by maybe 5 FPS, but still not enough to make everything run smoothly.
I'm also getting tears in the geometry of the landscape, locations where the floor doesn't seem to exist for a good chunk of time (until the redraw catches up with it), and occasional rubberbanding. Most of these things I chalked up to being in Beta, but at Launch they're somewhat ridiculous problems to be having. I'm going to stick things out, but if these problems persist I have a feeling Cryptic is going to have a lot of off-the-shelf purchasers screaming for refunds...

I have a very similar system, and we are just above the minimum specs and I have exactly the same issues. I pre-ordered the game and can't stand to play it. I will NOT be picking up my two copies due to this terrible performance. I wasted my pre-order money and I am highly upset. I have played every single MMO since Everquest, and I was looking forward to this one more than any other. Very disappointing. I missed out on all the pre-order benefits and lost some money. I just want to play without jerking around with terrible frame rates. Running directly into piles of mobs because I can't control my character through the chopping. Breaks my heart. Performance is TERRIBLE in populated areas. With the UI on, framerates fluctuate between 10 and 15 FPS, with the UI off, between 12 and 20 FPS. In both cases, this is simply from fling in a circle in the Canada Base Area.
As a side note, Task Manager's performance monitor shows the game taking up 100% of CPU and about 30% of RAM virtually all the time. Clearly, the game and video code is non-optimized and CPU bound. I certainly hope the launch build will perform better than this, there have been numerous times when I've been plagued by performance so bad that it has gotten me killed.
Please prioritize performance enhancement optimizations above all other issues. Game balance is irrelevant when your game isn't actually playable.

And no... there is no difference. I was between 1 and 3 fps before I turned it off and I went to between 3 and 5 fps after. That is not a noticeable difference to me.
I hope you guys figure this out soon...

My CPU is obviously bottle necking my system but I was still getting abysmal framerate. Out of combat and traveling my FPS fluctuated between 10-20, in combat it was anywhere from 1-9. The ingame video modifications didn't do a lick of good either, I had all settings set to minimum as well as half resolution which looked fuzzier than a brand new teddy bear to put it nicely and the frame rate never once made it past 25 even while idling. Most adjustments saw a 1 or 2 fps increase. During closed beta I wasn't running /showfps 1 but the frame rate was at least 15 or above at all times since it didn't directly impede my gameplay.

My framerate usually ranges between 15-25, but often dips to 10 in high-pop areas. Occasionally it may go as high as 35.
For some reason I have never been able to get CCC to install on my system so I'm unable to try out many of the tweaks listed on the forum (Ati-tray tool works, but corrupts my graphics completely within Champions). This means I have been at the mercy of the ingame settings, but I have noticed something interesting. While turning off settings like Ambient occlusion or shadows gains me 1 or 2 fps my biggest FPSboost came from MAXING out my AA settings. The difference between AA off and AA at 8x is a good 5-10 fps on average MORE.
Strange, but the game does seem to have an unusual way of handling AA - it seems only certain objects are affected by it.
And like many others turning off the UI gains me about 5-10 FPS.

Additional notes:
I average 20-30 fps in open areas. At worst, in populated cities i'll get around 15 or less. It's pretty bad. Overall I expect much better performance in the future when Cryptic finds and fixes what is causing these issues. The games not unplayable, but it's still pretty bad.
Just to give a little perspective, the following games I own or have played run at above 40 fps at max settings:: Call of Duty 4, Half Life 2, Age of Conan, Everquest 2, Left 4 Dead, and probably more I could think of. I realize this is a different engine but experience has led me to expect much better performance from a game that is not nearly as graphic intensive as the previously meantioned titles.

If you're having issues running the game, and reading a lot of your spec's for your computer. You NEED to upgrade. There isn't much the tech's can do for you, if the problem is in your house. I don't experience any issues other than Blue screen of death, but that's my computer, not an issue the Cryptic team can do. Just a thought, but upgrade even if the graphics look simple, they're layered. Keep that in mind when wondering about frame rates.

Although a lot of systems could use an upgrade, there definitely is a problem in the code, the game shouldn't get slower the longer you play and it shouldn't suddenly gain a 50-100% performance by turning of the UI.

While having the lighting option turned to high my frame rate drops sevearly in comparison to having it on low, but when it is turned on low all the characters in the game become smooth and metalic looking. I could have the graphics running on max and have a great frame rate as long as this setting is on low, but on the flip side when i turn the lighting on high, even though all my graphics levels are turned down i still drasticly lose out on fps. especialy while other players are about. I dont understand how lighting affects the characters texture so drasticly, anyone having this same issue? (sorry for any spelling errors)

Theres alot of problems with the UI.. my system can run the game fine as its better than all of the specs, so why is the UI causing frame rate loss at such an extreme?

If you're having issues running the game, and reading a lot of your spec's for your computer. You NEED to upgrade. There isn't much the tech's can do for you, if the problem is in your house. I don't experience any issues other than Blue screen of death, but that's my computer, not an issue the Cryptic team can do. Just a thought, but upgrade even if the graphics look simple, they're layered. Keep that in mind when wondering about frame rates.
Keep in mind that your wrong, there is something wrong with the game and A LOT of people are having this issue and Cryptic and Nvidia are both looking into it and Cryptic knows there is a problem with the UI and the game not using the GPU like it's suppose to. I by no means need to upgrade and I'm in the same boat with the rest of them.

I suppose I should post here since I'm having FPS issues on a machine that should be able to run this game at least close to it's max settings without breaking a sweat.
My computer:
CPU: AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition 3.0GHz
VGA: XFX Nvidia 9800GTX
RAM: 4 Gigs (2x2) OCZ Reaper 1066MHz DDR2
Sound: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium
Mobo: MSI K9A2 Platinum
OS: Windows XP64
I get between 15 and 30 FPS, usually around 20-25, on recommended settings. Turning off the UI yields no difference in FPS at all.
Turning the lighting on low, however, causes the FPS to jump up to anywhere between 52 to 60 (the VSync cap). It also takes a truckload of definition out of the game, so I'd rather leave it on if at all possible.
A few points of notice:
My CPU rarely ever breaks 60% usage. Unless I'm traveling across the open world it tends to hover between 40 and 50%, sometimes a little higher in areas with alot of detail. I'd give you my GPU usage, but Nvidia cards don't have a load monitor on their GPUs.
I've tried forcing the game to put anti aliasing load on the GPU, and as far as I can tell it makes no difference in CPU usage, so either the game is ignoring the settings I forced for it in the NVidia control panel, or the game has been using my GPU for that the whole time.
Aside from the lighting setting, most of the other settings have a relatively minimal impact on performance. If I max everything out, I see between a 0 and 10 FPS difference from the "recommended" settings. I find this funny since one of the highlights of the 9800GTX over the 8800GTX was that it handled lighting and shadows better, yet people with 8000 series cards are getting better performance with the lighting on high than I am.
Is there any test data or anything I can gather to help you guys narrow down this problem?

If by turning off the UI (I haven't tried it yet), you mean the interface that shows you power/health/actionbars etc., how can that possibly qualify as a solution? While I'm sure that you could argue to some degree that you don't need the UI to play the game all the time, why on Earth would you want to play it with the UI turned off?
Someone please enlighten me.

It's not a solution. They are asking people to try it to see what kind of difference it makes.
But it's not the only problem, alot of people are having issues with anti-aliasing and other stuff being loaded to the CPU, and problems with the lighting causing FPS drops on rigs that shouldn't have a problem with it. I'm going to do a bit more testing later to see exactly what kind of stuff causes a CPU usage jump, with lighting on low and high, to see if those things might be related.

Hey all, I'm in particularly interested in UI performance. If you are in game (not sure if the shard is up right now), please try the following.
Slide the video option slider down to the fastest settings (which will be ugly-- that's OK, this is for diagnosis of the problem).
/showfps
Have your character look at the ground
wait ten seconds
write down the fps and ms/frame (all numbers shown in the upper right)
Hit Alt+F12
wait ten seconds
write down the fps and ms/frame (all numbers shown in the upper right)
Post with your graphics and computer stats like you have been.
This will be HUGELY helpful. I thank all of you for giving us a hand with this.
Ingame graphics set to minimum.
UI OFF: 59.95 (16.7m/fm) - fairly steady
UI ON: 52-58 (16.9-18.1m/fm) - varied up and down wildly
OS: Win 7 RC1
CPU: Intel E8400 (not overclocked)
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: EVGA GTX 260 (think it's factory overclocked a tad)
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4
All the latest drivers/updates.
Sidenote: When running around with the same graphics settings as above the FPS difference between UI ON and UI OFF was huge. With UI ON I would get between 20 and 40 FPS LESS than when UI was OFF.

I notice slight increases when turing off the UI. With the UI on it bounces between 1.9-10 and with it off the bounces between 10-13. Id have to say, its not very enjoyable to play. There seems to be a 2-5 second delay after I hit the space bar, for an example. Making for "fast-paced gaming" not to realistic.
I bought this graphics card thinking it would improve my performance, as I had a ATI Radeon 2600 PRO, and I expericance the same performance. Maybe Im just to use to playing CoH:)
Hope you all find a fix soon, so I can enjoy the game!

Not true, you can hack XP to run DX10, however it's iffy compatibility at best. Mine is done in such a way, not sure if it is effecting any performance though.
PC Stats:
CPU: 2.1ghz Intel 2 Core Duo
GPU: 8800 GTS 512mb
RAM: OCZ 4 GB (2x1024MB)
OS: XP, DX10 (hacked)
In Desert:
Framerate with UI: 20-35 Avg Fps, as low as 10 with Travel.
Framerate w/o UI: 40-80 Avg Fps, as low as 25 with Travel.
HUGE, HUGE, huge, difference. A UI shouldn't be taking that much processing power. I notice when flicking it on and off the powersets fold out kinda like cards, lots of things like that should be disabled, just stationary pictures would do fine. Don't need anything so integrated.
Fix please, for now I've mapped the Hide UI to my side mouse button. Can flick it on and off on the fly now, while traveling or fighting non-consequential mobs.
PS. Please alphabetize the drop downs in character creation.

I still have FPS issues, I have had FPS issues since CB. I understand the game just launched and they are still working out the kinks, but for the love of everything that's holy I can barely move.
By all means I am not complaining, whining, throwing myself on the ground throwing a temper tantrum. I have played plenty of MMO's that have had terrible launches, and over all this was a good launch for most people. I just want to join the majority and be able to play.
Updated news on my gaming experience:
1)Settings on "Recommended" UI on: 1-10 FPS avg.
Moving: 1-5, Stationary 5-10, Looking at the ground: 5-10
2)Settings on "Recommended" UI off: 5-10
Moving: 3-7 FPS, Stationary: 5-10, looking at the ground usually around 10
1)Settings on "Minimum" UI on: 5-15 FPS
Moving: 3-8, Stationary: 5-12, Looking at ground: 10-15
2)Settings on "Minimum" UI off: 5-20 FPS
Moving: 3-10, Stationary: 5-15, Looking at the ground: 10-20
I realize I have a Min to a little over Min spec meeting computer. I understand that means that I will have to sacrafice graphic settings to be able to play this game. I am alright with that, I understand that. What I don't understand is not being able to move in the game on recommended or Minimum settings, and if I am able to move the game FPS flops to 1-5 range. At this point the game is unplayable. I should be able to put the graphics on Minimum and move fluidly throughout the game.
Spec:
2.8 ghz pentium D processor
Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT (256mb)
2 Gig Ram
Windows XP (32)
5-10 MB/s cable connection
Realtek High Def Sound card
Cable connection: Comcast
( here is a site with what it comes with standard: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...0503720&dlc=en, though obviously it is not EXACTLY the same. I added RAM, Video card, Power supply)
I have already sent in my profiler twice (11 days ago), with two tickets that are "RESOLVED".
I am not trying to whine or complain, just frustrated and I expect there to be issues with launch. I understand my PC is not ideal for the game, but if I am meeting the Min requirements, exceeding some of them, there is not reason why I should not be able to put my graphic setting to MIN, make sure everything is off or on low, and still have issues where I can barely move.

I found a solution for my terrible FPS issues (15-20 fps)
My system is:
Windows XP sp3
Leadtek PX8800 GTS 640MB (Standard Clocking)
Core 2 Duo E6750
GA-P35-DS3R (F2 Bios)
2GB 1066 Crucial Ballistix
I had no lagging issues or FPS troubles in CB & OB, it wasn't until I updated my NVIDIA drivers that I started having problems. For whatever reason I decided to upgrade to 190.62 (Latest), mistake. I averaged 15 fps looking at the ground.
I did an uninstall on driver and reloaded my tried and true driver the 178.24.
My FPS is 50-60 with UI enabled staring at floor.
Hope this helps folks with NVidia cards and XP.
EDIT: Also, there is a definite "hit" with comic shading enabled. I have Physx enabled, though I've not tested with it disabled yet.

If the lag problem is too many people moving too fast, why is there lag in instanced missions? If the problem is too many people, then just add more shards. I realize that's expensive, but that equipment can be expensed and depreciated. Then it can be resold if the game audience shrinks. Even better, transfer it to Star Trek Online when they are ready for beta testing.
