SG's for solo players

In City of Heroes, I ran an SG that was fully loaded with all the available super group bonus, (teleporters storage etc...) But everyone in the SG generally soloed. we all helped each other when needed, but that was it. the Sg is based on mutual respect, and communal effort

I am wondering if an SG like that has already been proposed, (if so can I sign up)

If not would anyone else be interested in joining me in this type pf SG?

a group is a body or organization comprised of more then one member that shares a common goals and/or beliefs as well as work together.

solo- is when you do something on your own

a solo-super group defeats the whole point of you being "solo" don't cha think? That really don't make any sense. Why affiliate with a group, when you're not going to do anything as a group?

Markus clearly puts the benefits of being in a SG that players who like to solo can take advantage of. I imagine a lot of players would like those benefits of being in a SG without any pressures to group with other members of the guild or be active in group events etc with the threat of being kicked if they don't get involved. Or avoid the whole core members over regular members favouritism BS that occurs in many guilds.

Hi there!

Well, i share exactly the same opinion. I played (still have a char) CoV for many years, and was 2nd in command in the SG. We all helped each others when possible and the SG as well of course, but there were no pressures of any kind. Usually we soloed or have 2 or 3 from SG and the rest from other SGs, and it was relaxed for everybody.
I'm a working father, so sometimes i have lots of time, and sometimes none at all, but i'm a very experienced MMO player looking exactly for the same as u.
So, if u start or find an SG like that, pls let me know... ;)

Well, that can be done in pretty much any SG actually.

Every SG has those players who usually keep to themselves until they need help with something :)

I think "hate" is to strong a word. But for me it's simply that I dont want to play with others. I treat this game as a solo game with infinite content (potentially) when I do team in my head the other characters are simply AI and I generally treat them as such. I dont talk much as I am not interested in making virtual friends, I have lots of RL friends. I understand that many people do not feel the way I do, so to avoid hurt feelings I like the idea of having an SG as a resource for people who's feelings I wont hurt, and who feel similar to me.

I am not out to change the game or anything (though a true invisibility power would be nice) I just want to play how I want to play.

I know exactly what Markus is saying. There are benefits to being in a SG, but that doesn't mean that every time you log on, you have to do what Captain Forceful is saying the SG has to do, or get bogged down in what Kid Crybaby can't accomplish again today. Not to say that helping and being helped isn't good fun - we all enjoy that in a game, I believe, but we also do this to escape pressure and responsibility (at least those of us pushing 50 do) and often just want to do our thing when the kids are in bed and the wife is tucked in.

Markus, I'm with you - if you find that SG, let me know.

As a leader/officer of many MMO guilds/clans/corporations/etc I can fully empathize with wanting to log in and focus on my own fun sometimes. Other times, the people are the only reason I log in at all as opposed to firing up a single-player game.

All loners are welcome to give Weekend Champions (http://weekendchamps.modctek.com) a try. No requirements, no enforced teaming. We just ask that you respect others, represent the supergroup with honor and dignity, and have fun. Some folks may ask why you are so quiet, or ask if you'd like to join a team, but aside from being polite, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do.

Now as to why you would want to join a supergroup but not team or take advantage of the only other benefit SGs currently offer (socializing), I guess to each his/her own. As far as I know, there are no other benefits to belonging to a supergroup at this time other than having a few more characters above your head. Perhaps you'd like to visit our SG website on a regular basis when you can't play CO.

Now, as to the future, who knows what Cryptic will add for supergroups. Me? I'm hoping for our own base with the associated benefits - teleporter, crafting tables, banking terminals, jacuzzi, butler, etc. :p

We are a historic group of fighters that believe in having fun in PVE and PVP.

We are a very loosely formed role playing group thats more interested in having a good time then having to stick to role playing guidelines.

Since we are Spartans from the Past, Present and Future its possible to be any kind of hero that you want to be.

We have members from teens to seniors, from singles people to couples, from students to non students who live in all different time zones from around the world.

I'm with the original poster on this. I don't mind joining groups or helping other members out every now and again but I hate the little mini-Hitlers you get in some of the guilds/groups or whatever!

As long as I can play for decent amounts of time (in my not limitless spare time) without constant 'tells' begging (or demanding!!) things off me for the 'good of the group', I'm good. My view on it is that I'm willing to help from time to time (and ask for help from time to time as well grant you), but unless you're willing to pay my subs, I expect to play the game my way. I enjoy developing and refining my characters more than anything in MMO's not necessarily big group raids and simply min-maxing items.

So (unless I've ****ed everyone off) if you do find or start such a group, let me know.

i have to agree with the folks that posted before. i hae the same time/family/job issue and would love a casual group that can understand when i need to do some things alone.

A few things regarding this solo SG we're starting. If no one replies here then I'll ask tonight when/if folks show up.

1) What colors do we want? I"m partial to a dark'ish blue and white.
2) What emblem do we want? I'm partial to some sort of star emblem.
3) What name do we want? "The Independents" or "A Force of One" or playing off an old US Army slogan... "An Army of One" I'm partial to "A Force of One"

Hopefully we'll see at least 4 more of you tonight :)

The only reason I shy away from black... though I agree with you about the "goes with anything" part... is some sublties and details of costume parts get lost with black. Example, wrinkles on pieces, or the nose in a full mask when it's black.

That's why I prefer a dark'ish blue... still get a dark with a light color, but you don't lose the details.

As to "My Army" uh... I'd still prefer "A Force of One" or "The Independents" ... and while I lean towards the former, I do still really like the latter, LOL.

One of the star emblems... I like the "comet" one personally though all are fine. I also like that dual color star... the one with the top 3 points are one color converging int he middle of the star at an angle.

Not bad, to be honest but the idea here is that we will still be able to call upon each other for help when needed... just no pressure to help. No... "He/She is in the SG so we're obligated to help." Not in the least... but if you do enjoy teaming at times, for your sake or to help others, there will be the SG chat channel to call upon.

If you wish to talk in SG chat... talk... if not... don't. If someone asks you a direct question and you really don't feel like chatting, as the OP mentioned, a polite response along the line of: "I'm really not interested in SG chat, thank you." and to me that should not be construed as rude or anti social or whatever... the reply should be: "No problem, but we're here if you should ever change your mind... be sure to call if you need us though."

Meh <shrugs> that's how I envision it at least.

So, that would negate both the RP of your name suggestion as well as the RP backstory of only one of us being ablt to occupy this dimension at a time.

Feel free to join us tonight or anytime if you wish.

This will be an SG of independent / solo players who will hopefully be able to utilize the resources available to an SG... whatever those may be.

Well, alrighty then... the SG is formed.

The name "The Independents" was taken so we're now "Independents" :)

You can look up either Psion@daruma or Cold Fusion@Markus for an invite... I meant to make Lucky Devil an officer but he was logged and gone before I even realized it... so at some point you'll be able to hit him up for an invite as well.

Looking forward to not working with any of you solo'ers soon :)
