Well now theres a freeform slot available in the C Store I am no longer subscribing. Adventure Packs are free and freeforms can be bought for a one off payment or earned for q points
. In my eyes there is absolutely no point in paying for a game that offers absolutely no incentive to pay monthly fees

Well, what about the bunch of gold costumes, the 'free' bag slots, the lack of a cap for G, the character slots, free character slots at 40, veteran rewards, free costume slots at 15 and 30, and so on?

Not worth monthly $'s though. Fine I wont buy anything over 250g's or have any colours.

And you'll have to make do with 1(2?) bag slots, one character (one freeform, that is), only the costume sets you want to buy, two(?) costume slots without buying more, and so forth. I'm just saying, still plenty of value there, in my eyes. :)
Though, it -is- nice to have a freeform if you can't afford a subscription a month or so.

Gotta agree with Keymonk. The CP price still tells me that subbing would be the better deal, at least to me. Of course, I'm a lifeleecher, so my opinion is irrelevant. :P

Of course, ALL our C-store purchases came from our stipends, because lifeleechers never EVER spend money on this game. And then have to make up an excuse why I spent more money on CO when the hubby checks the checking account history. That NEVER happens.
(Shut up, Miss Enchanted deserves to live in a penthouse, don't judge me!)

The problem is that, if you put any actual gameplay behind a subscription gate, a lot of people aren't going to get to participate, so there's less people running the new content, and since there aren't many people running it, everyone will stop running it. It's a fairly dangerous paradox to fall into. If they were going to do something like that, they'd have to do like the comic series and make the content purchasable for silvers, which would basically defeat the purpose.
I'm entirely too pragmatic on the subject, though. I've gotten so much out of my LTS that at this point I don't even mind if nothing new ever gets released for me. I can't say if that opinion would stay the same if I was paying a monthly sub, but I think so.

You are aware that they just gave us a ton of new costumes for free with on alert. Sure you gota earn tokens. But they don't cost a dime. We got new travel powers as well
I know. You mean free costumes for golds. Special, that the rest of the scum have to earn seperatly. You know kinda like the avian set.
Oh wait you didn't mean that either? Talk about hard to please. :D

While buying vs. renting is still generally preferable, at $50 a crack on the FF slots, it's really only preferable if you intend on having a really small alt stable.
If one is thinking of buying any significant number of FF slots (3 or greater, I'd say), just get the LTS. Vastly more worth it.
Not to mention, with the bulk purchase of the LTS, you can apply it to existing characters. Eh, screw the FF slot. Just plain not worth it.

Let's see...
$50 for 1 FF slot, no stipend, no free extra characters on hitting level 40
vs
$300 for 16 FF slots, stipend, extra slots when hitting level 40, veteran rewards, etc.

During the much-heated debates on giving freeform slots to silver players, a widely-agreed-upon price range was $30 to $50 if I remember correctly.
As far as I can tell, they got what they asked for.

I think the actual figure varied from thread to thread. Sometimes it was lower than that, but I always figured it would be closer to $30 than $50.
But... oh well. I already have a LTS so it doesn't affect me personally. I just think that the $50 is ridiculous and will get Cryptic FAR less money in the end than simply going for a more affortable price.
EDIT/PS: And (I think) the $50 mark was actually something that was proposed by posters that insisted on the value of subs rather than silvers themselves. But we'd have to dig out too much forum history to confirm that. And its not like we'll have a forum history for long.

For the price of a FF slot, I could be subscribed for 8 months.
I think it'd be nice for people in very particular circumstances, and am glad it's an OPTION, at least, but most people are better served just subscribing.

$50 bucks for ONE slot I dont see how this takes away from an LTS...sub yeah I can see this making a dent in subs but subs isnt how PWE makes monies.
Hopefully the increase in FF toons will help boost PvP :)

I'm pretty sure the price will come down eventually, once the first rush has been milked dry. It might take a month or two maybe, but once there aren't a significant number or people left who are willing to pay the current price, it'll have to go down to level that more people are willing to pay for it. I'm guessing a drop to 2900 store points most likely.

Based on what? Other then sales....has there ever been a C-store item re-listed with a reduced price?
Ill reconsider my opinion. If they ever end up lowering the price on the rank up catalysts.

Then you realize that Cryptic basically gets three months worth of subscription money out of you for one slot, on top of whatever you spend/spent on bag slots and other free-for-gold features.

I currently have 34 freeform characters at $50 each = $1700
The 14 free gold archetypes at $11.50 each = $161
15 months of 400 CP stipend at $5 each = $75
The 13 free gold costume sets at $4.75 each = $61.75
The 8 free gold travel powers at $5.25 each = $42
One free hideout at $6.25
Not counting the bag slots (I honestly don't know if that's $7.50 total, or $7.50 * 34 = $255 total)
Not counting an account-wide costume slot veteran reward.
Not counting lots and lots of retcon tokens.
Granted, I did buy some of those character slots with CP -- but I didn't have to pay extra per slot for them to be freeform.
34 character slots is roughly $24.5 million questionite, or approximately 8 and a half years of one character slot grinding questionite.
LTS is looking better and better, isn't it?

They can buy all of this with the CP they gain IG via the questionite.
A bag is 160CP. 12,8 daily quests with one character / 6,4 daily quests with two characters / 3,2 daily quests with four characters / Etc...
Anything can be buy in the store now, but the tainting and the ressources limit.
1) Pay 15$ every month and don't have anything when they will stop to subscribe because this is a renting.
2) Or pay 15$ to buy 1500 CP every month, add these 1500 CP to the CP they gain IG when they sell questionite, and buy what they want in store to never loose anything even when they will stop to spend money in this game is a better deal.
Some have choose today between rent and purchase.
The sub is now only valuable if players wants ALL(most) costumes or anything in game temporary, but accept to loose anything if they stop to sub.
All players who want only one or two free form characters and can deal with the costumes they have, and can wait to gain questionite to buy costume sets or costume slots, they don't have any interest to continue to sub.

Based on cost versus value. My feeling is that it's target group is just too narrow compared to it's potential. Of course it's possible I'm just wrong, but in my opinion the 'posting and handling' on single FF slot compared to bulk discount of LTS is complitely disproportionate. It makes FF slot pretty ******** option at the moment.
It would only make sense if it's meant to bring in the cash from that narrow audience, before offering it to wider customer base. Same thing as with the FF lottery thing - it was designed to be sold for particular audience, which probably started to dry up by now.
Otherwise it just isn't going to bring in any significant cash flow once those few select people have purchased their one freeform slot. It might very well get introduced as something like 25%-30% discount, and then 'due to popularity we've decided to leave the lowered price' once enough people have rushed to grab it 'while it's hot'.
Catalyst rank-ups are a bit different thing I think. They're targeted for the small group of people who just have to be 'uber', no matter how much it costs. They have to have stellar price, otherwise they'll complitely devalue the in-game grind. From my point of view, the very fact that those rank ups exist at all is almost inexcusable. FF on the other hand in my opinion is simply the 'full game' instead of trial version.

Okay, so Freeform slot is in the C-Store at 4,000 C-Points. I have a few words to say to that, "Quit your whining."
$50 for 1, count it. ONE Freeform slot. Honestly, I don't see what the big fuss is about. Being Gold or a Lifer still has PLENTY of advantages, even with this I would still consider going Lifetime eventually, or keep subscribing.
To help my case here is a list:
- Getting additional character slot the second you reach 40 with ANY toon.
- Having access to ALL of the Archetypes, and Freeform
- Color Customization for all your powers
- Additional Travel Powers
- Additional Costume Slots
- Additional Costume Pieces
- A monthly stipend of 400 Cryptic Points
- Veteran Awards
- Access to the public testing server
Any questions?
