as a former gold sub, I'm happy to see that something is on the way that will allow me to use my main toon until i become a gold sub again. I'm also happy to see that lairs and other major group play scenario improvements are on the way.

There are still things to sub about, monthly stipend, coloring powers, acess to the AP's, bunch fo free costumes you get, at least 6 instant slots (and while you're subbing have acess to freeform) and more. Besides some games are kept alive only by their store and not pure subscriptions. I don't see how it could be a problem to add FF slots. More money= More content. And it's not even close to the gambling approach that many people have opposed in grab bags.Also: I am not trying to troll or otherwise offend anyone who does not share my point of view regarding this matter.

I'd have a lot more to say about this subject if we had a ballpark figure for how much a freeform slot would hypothetically cost, but I'm guessing that any answer to that question would launch another Vibora Pay firestorm.

Even so, I stand by my earlier assertion, but I'll try to word it more clearly: Freeform is, for many current subscribers, the main reason to subscribe. By making it an option for Silvers, without adding some other, new benefit for subscribing, both the perceived and real value of subscriptions are diminished, particularly for players who spend most of their playtime on a single character. If the value of a subscription is diminished, then a portion of the current subscribers will stop subscribing. It's not a question of whether there is remaining value: It's a question of whether players will perceive the remaining value to be worth the price of a subscription.

Maybe if it cost far beyond anything currently on the C-store, it'd be viable... Don't get me wrong, I like the idea. It effectively lets a Silver player get a taste of Gold and perhaps encouraging them to think economically and just go Gold to save money...
So, as this is essentially a taster, perhaps it needs some strong limitations... Like, for example, cost. Technically a single one-off payment is going to be less than a continued subscription, and having it cost as much as lifetime does would be SILLY...

See, you NEED long term subscribers I think. I went lifetime, student loan 'n all, but long term devoted subscribers are what you need... There needs to be a way in a Free To Play system that gives Silvers a taste of what the pure power of Freeform is like so they switch over.
To be honest... They do already get that though. Freeformers generally do outclass Freeplayers in versatilty due to having chosen their powers across a range, and they're actually thematically nicer since they were consciously chosen. I'm sorry, but every time I see a character whose powers make no sense to their character, or are unexplained by their backstory if any, I die a little inside. So Freeplayers kinda might see that going Freeform is better...
But there's a bad thing here.
I keep on coming across people who aren't even AWARE of Freeforming, a problem caused by it being free to play, so you can easily just jump in and play.
I think we need a bit of mention of the benefits of Gold in a movie in the Powerhouse, required to get your Starting Gear, but skippable as the others are. That might get more Gold members and also prevent people asking me what archetype I am. Makes me happy anyhoo.

I'm all for a purchasable Free Form character slot, despite my lifetime status. I can see some serious income drawbacks about it though... it'd have to be at least somewhat expensive in comparison to other C-Store things to be a viable purchase though.

I am a silver player and I agree with FF for silvers for a cost, but T-Hawk as a very valid point, allowing silvers to have a FF char, makes gold players less likely to continue being gold. so they should add something else to gold players that makes them still want to be gold.

They lose the two extra costume slots per character.
They lose access to any character they aren't willing to convert to silver.

They lose the 400 c-point per month stipend.

Is that enough to retain the current subscriber base? No, and I don't think there's any reasonable incentive they can create to keep their subs 1:1 from before to after the change. But, anyone going silver, is likely to be paying through q sales or direct c-point purchase for convenience items, costume items, and of course for the freeform slot itself.

Actually I'm not since I didn't say that every gold member has multiple gold alts. I said they lose access to any character they aren't willing to convert to silver. That's true if they have 1 alt or 10 alts. Plus, in the last paragraph I acknowledge that there's no set of reasonable incentives that will keep every single current subscriber, but that's true even if they don't add freeform slots for sale.

In fact, none of these things matter for me, that's why I propose to "give" them to silvers, instead of giving the freeform. Based on the original post of Valgorn (and many other people), freeform is not the most important when you pay the sub. All I know is this scene playing in my mind where players ask me if spending 300$ to make my laser eyes pink is not a bit too much :D

But of course, it's already too late to think about anything else, they'll do this FF slot, it's in their schedule. I just have more and more the feeling that I wasted too much money while I should have waited.

Now I totally agree with you id love to see power color changing get either given or even paid for I know id love to be able to fit my powers to my costumes. I'm also in line with the others here waiting patiently for the next report to hit us I hope its soon ,though if power armors archetype is released before then, I can be held off for awhile longer but I would really like to see anew neighborhood/zone by the start of the fall some something around that date since this year was said to be full of improvements and expansion to the lil superhero land.

February to June? That's just sad. I really do think the game is failing. It's such a shame.. Arguably my favorite MMORPG just for being freeform. That ONE system puts this game miles above. But their experiment should have been crafted better from launch for freeform to have been balanced so all powers/frameworks/play-styles can be fun and enjoyable. years of ignoring balance has come back and the game can't quite pay the cost.

Crypric never should have lost the Marvel License nor Xbox integration.. everything after that has been somewhat disheartening.

Therefore : even moar exciting great fantastic new alerts.

Also .. since everyone levels in alerts, and since they are so fantastic, old Zones like Canda, Desert and Lemuria
will be removed from the game .. really .. no need to have them any longer .. yay

What I'm finding particularly annoying is there's actually been a pretty decent amount of dev chat in the PTS with the PA powers and new alerts. Splosions is popping up regularly in chat channels as well and genuinely getting stuff done. However anything from the folks who 'man the shop front' for CO................................................ .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .....

I'd actually be really happy if Robobo would just step in and post "State of The Game: adding PA powers, new alerts and trying to get stuff that on alert broke, fixed. Until report, same as the Feb one but hey On Alert came out" because it's probably true but I just wanna hear something official.

But then Robobo hasn't posted on these forums in nearly two months.

Couple of weeks ago I thought to buy LTS, but then I think again. CO is good game and I love to play it.

BUT

I really don't understand arrogance of Cryptic.

They don't communicate at all with community, there is no actual dev posts over month (if we don't count news and pts-posts). Just arrogant silence.

They ban players who have LTS, just because they are from China or Russia. They take gamers money and run. This may be legal, but it is incredible unethical. Can I be sure about that not happen to me?

And they don't keep their promises, like posting UNTIL reports. If I pay over 200€ for MMO (or about anything...), I want to know direction of game development.

So, do I want to buy something expensive like LTS?

No, I can't trust you Cryptic. I'm sorry, but you just lose your moneys. I will keep my account monthly payed, this may be more expensive in long term, but risk is too big. I can always cancel next month pay, if game will be developed to direction which I don't like.
