I'm looking to push maximum DPS in a Fire Avenger role. I've been looking at skeeterbarnes's Ember build on the proboards and was planning this. any further advice would be appreciated.

Having DEX in there can admittedly be a bit of a pain, and not a perfect return when the only power DEX has synergy with is Ice Sheathe. There are quite a few stat-combinations that are much more user-friendly. Whether you want to use Enrage would probably dictate the stat combo.

In my build, my final two powers are Force Detonation and Ice Barrier. Force Detonation is primarily a PvP power for me. Ice Barrier has been more effective than I thought it would be. I didn't realize the barriers last 30s. Ice Barrier is also the primary reason for Dark Transfusion (I.B. sets energy to 0, D.T. brings it right back up).

Sigils Of Arcane Runes will be very effective in the build.

I'm pretty pleased with the combo I have, and the damage is ridiculous. But there is occasional frustration with energy and frequent frustration with being vulnerable to mass henchmen. Switching to a more energy-friendly stat combo and adding IDF would probably take care of that.

Force Shield or Ebon Void may be more efficient shields than Fire Shield, because of the lingering defense.

There is a new sorcery power on the way (Pyromancer's Blades) that does hands-free Fire damage, so I'm pretty interested in testing that out with this build.

An "End on Kill" secondary item might help the energy issues, especially with Conflag.

I think I might try force shield and IDF to soften the energy problems. I don't mind being fragile, I just like your idea of pushing for REAL big numbers. I'm still levelng her. energy is a problem, adds are a problem. but the fireball crits are wicked, can't wait for confla.

Oni's build looks like it would much better for my leveling.

OniGanon threw in one very important power for energy that you missed earlier... Flashfire. Combined with Thermal Reverb, it'll feed you energy even while you're doing nothing else at all, it's a 'fire and forget'... if you'll forgive the pun ;).

Oh sorry mate, didn't realise you wanted to level with the build. I just kinda threw stuff in there in any order.

For levelling, you want Flashfire ASAP. So go this way:

Powers:
Level 1: Throw Fire
Level 1: Fireball -- Unstable Accelerant
Level 6: Thermal Reverberation
Level 6: Fire Flight
Level 8: Conflagration -- Rank 2, Rank 3
Level 11: Heat Wave -- Engulfing Flames, Rank 2
Level 14: Flashfire -- Rank 2, Rank 3
Level 17: Ice Form -- Rank 2, Rank 3
Level 20: Form of the Tempest
Level 23: Force Shield -- Force Sheath
Level 26: Protection Field -- Rank 2, Rank 3
Level 29: Inertial Dampening Field
Level 32: Mindful Reinforcement -- Revitalizing Boost, Rank 2
Level 35: Sigils Of Arcane Runes -- Rank 2, Rank 3, Mystic Transference
Level 35: Teleport
Level 38: Fire Snake -- Rank 2, Trail Blazer

Note: Mystic Transference makes Arcane Sigils spawn only 2 sigils instead of 5, but it reduces the energy cost, the charge time, and drastically reduces the cooldown (10s cooldown, down from 30s). So it's less damage but useable faster, easier and much more often. If you want the bigger boom feeling of all 5 sigils though, put that extra point in a travel power or something.

Using Oniganon's build will have two effects. 1) It'll be the fastest 40 you've ever gotten. And 2) you'll never want to level anything else.

My only question is, why Ice Form instead of Fiery Form?

My only question is, why Ice Form instead of Fiery Form?

In the words of Skeeterbarnes:

"I chose Ice Form because Chill is much more valuable than Fire Form's laughable PBAoE. "

I tried Ice Form on my Fire character (also Dex/Pre), but I couldn't get over the visual. It's just not as cool as Fiery Form. Your mileage may vary on this.

I'm looking to push maximum DPS in a Fire Avenger role. I've been looking at skeeterbarnes's Ember build on the proboards and was planning this. any further advice would be appreciated.
One thing to note, Fire is such heavy DPS that there is no real need to gimp yourself in other areas just to squeeze every erg of DPS out of it. I run a CON/INT Fire Avenger that chews through mobs so fast, even on Elite, that my teammates barely have time to get to the fight. (That's not meant to make me sound like some uber-munchkin, I'm not, just to illustrate Fire's DPSing power). But, I also have high survivabilty and can serve as a secondary meat shield in case something goes wrong. I even ended up tanking a big boss once, on acccident (with a decent healer, of course, but that's a given).

Honestly, most mobs barely make it through the Flashfire - Fireball opening of my combo, then I hardly get a few ticks of Conflag on them. I rarely even pop my buffs (Mini Drive w/ Recip and Howl) because there is no reason to. I am always surprised by Fire's kill-speed compared to my other characters. And, I really do not think my build is particularly min-maxed.

So, my recommendation would be to build up good DPS, but do not sacrifice everything for it because you are already going to be mowing things down faster than you can mash the keys.
