View Full Version : Defiance Heavy Weapons Tank Build

Archived Post

Below is my Defiance based Heavy Weapons Tank Build. I try to make this a leveling build that would not require a respec unless I have made some poor assumptions. My SS are Con/Str with secondary stats of Int/Pre. I try to build the foundation of the character first and enhance the performace after I reach Tier 3 powers.

My plan is to use Decimate to disorient and apply Crippling Challenge, followup with Arc of Ruin to hold aggro, Cleave to build Enrage and Defiance stacks and if needed, Annihilate or Brimstone for the tougher foes and to re-apply disorient.

Resurgence with Evanescent Emergence is my heal/hold breaker. Enrage/Howl for perma Enrage. Molecular Self-Assembly for energy generation. Thunderstrike is for concept only.

Thoughts?

MSA is quite low in the list, perhaps swap with Guard?

If you plan on tanking (holding aggro) you're going to want crip challenge on Annihilate instead of R3 so you can keep adding threat with tap spams. Crip challenge on decimate is not going tick enough by itself due to the cooldown.

Thanks for the advice Kenpo. Having Brimstone and Thunderstrike (I wouldn't have enough energy to charge Gigabolt) is starting to seem redundant to me. Which is better? Brimstone is a fixed 840 AOE damage, but Thunderstrike is range AOE with a max of 1,056 on primary target and with 587 on secondary target.

I dropped Decimate for Vicious Decent and dropped Cleave when I picked up Arc of Ruin. This will enable me to move all of my secondary powers up two slots. I picked up Eruption for the Crippling Challenge.

Hello! Just wandering what you think of this build, mainly has utility from infernal supernatural and attacks from heavy weapons, with a few bits from other ones thrown in.

to thundergod : even if it's a FotM power, i don't think MSA is usefull here : defiance generates the all the energy needed, except if you decide to get IDF.

There's also the option of simply blocking a little for energy. MSA is crap without intelligence, anyway.

BCR is also kind of an iffy choice in that build since without any dodging, the heals are pretty bad. Conviction makes for a better non-targetted self heal while Empathic Healing and Bionic Shielding would make for a better targetted heal.

i'm able to get by using cleave r3 with CS and brimstone with CS, usually butting out around 1.2k Threat a second (give or take) with cleave. which should be enough to hold off from your typical team mates. (not counting SS Pre) I also have annihilate with CC and usually lead with it on bosses and also use it to build aggressor every 3rd or 4th cleave hit depending on how my energy is doing. Brimstone is usually enough to keep trash long enough to get them lined up for cleave, assuming they live that long. Cleave also builds enrage. Just my take on HW threat gen.

If you find your self having energy troubles.. force shield with sheath will take care of ya.

BCR is not all that great unless you got some pre or dodge. may want to consider a different heal and rank it up, take the points from your lunge....

I've found its usually best to use your lunge only to get in to use your main attacks OR to apply their advantage (or if you have MSA SS int to get energy return)

R3 Block while useful the points could be better used else where.

you'll want to find a quick way to get enrage to 8 stacks and keep it there. Rank up enrage add unbreakable/better you than me or something unless you get cleave. then you can just get enrage for a quick few stacks and let cleave get the rest.

just a couple thoughts that may or may not help ya :-)

If I'm tanking Bionic Shielding seems like a logical choice. I solo a lot and thought two heals would make my life a lot easier. Is Bionic Shielding worth ranking? If so, I could probably rob advantage points from Vicious Descent.

I'm told crippling on lunges arn't the best idea since you can't spam it... "I think" your best bet would be to put it on annihilate while you might not "need" to spam it most of the time it is sure nice to have as an option.

unless its for theme you could drop howl the fear potion is nice but might be able to grab something else better.

the thing with CS and CC is you got to not use them unless you know you can tank whatever it is your attacking... I doubt you would want to run up to Telio at lvl 30ish with it lol :-)

I like conviction as a heal myself as bionic only works if you are hit.

Interesting suggestions here, gonna take some notes... I've also made a heavy weapons, defiance tank, SS are STR CON then secondary PRE END, and I've been reading through a bunch of 'builds', but I think I might be doing something wrong. I don't have problem holding aggro whenever I group and no problems mitigating damage. Same idea as redrage, I use Annihilate for CC and Cleave and Brimstone for CS. I also use Defiance, IDF, Laserknight for mitigation, Resurgence and Conviction for heals.

My problem is health recovery when soloing. When I solo, say, Elite Megadestroid in Resistance, I get killed, eventually. It takes a while, but my toon dies inevitably without someone else providing extra heals. The self heals aren't enough to bring my hero's HP back to full. I tried adding CoPD, it helped a bit prolonging the fight, but I still died.

I also happen to have a Dual Blades LR, BCR(RR), IDF, Force Sheath tank who has no problem soloing one, or even 2 of those Elite Megadestroids. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong with my defiance hero, and I'd appreciate any help/suggestions.

I keep playing with this build and this is what I have as of today. It's a fun build so far. I just wish I had more points to allowcate to Conviction and Agressor. Ya'll have been very helpful with the advice. My focus is SS Str/Con with secondaries being Rec and Int. Keep the advice coming, as this is the only MMO i've ever played and actually enjoyed.

THANKS!

He's still a lot of fun. My current build is below. So far, I haven't had any problems leveling this build. I use Resurgence for my heal/hold breaker, IDF to mitigate henchmen, MSA to offset the energy penalty and Conviction to proc MSA and provide a minor heal. Defensive Combo is my threat generator for tanking bosses in a group without compromising the damage potential of Annihilate when soloing. Imbue will be used for damage/heal crits. I hope this helps.
