View Full Version : Too many stats in this game

Making passives scale with superstats is a good move, yet I doubt it'll benefit the newcomers. That's why i think it's time to make a huge step forward and get rid of all these redundant stats.
Instead, our heros would have only 3 stats: Offense, HP, and energy. You'd have to pick two of them as your superstats, of course, and everything would scale on them.

And people wonder why teaming is unrewarding in this game...

Let's get rid of all the redundant powers too. Just attack and block. Everyone will like it better. More people would be willing to pay for a game they can understand more easily.

And while we're at it, let's ditch all these redundant costume parts. It's too hard to make a decent looking character with so many choices.

Screw that noise.

I love having and managing all the different stats in this game.

I like the mix of stats. My first few guys I didn't notice much of a difference in playstyles, but when I got to my fire and electric guys, I noticed a huge difference - as with them, I focused entirely on their superstats that were recommended, meaning not health, not energy (well, not with the one,) and not having a defensive power or being in support role. They pretty much kill everything with the first volley, somehow manage to barely survive, or die fairly quickly. I like the feel for those guys like that - it's a nice change. Besides, I like the varied stats and how people can use them - you can be a consistent high-damage dealer, or the "burst damager," where you rely on huge criticals that happen more often - higher damage in a shorter time, but it's not consistent.

The best defence is a good offense right, in which case screw health and have everything scale on the big O!

But I want to have my cake and eat it too! My concept for a guy that's impervious to all damage, kills even the toughest of enemies with a single thought *and* never runs out of energy can't happen unless I can pick all three!

I say we just need one stat! It'll be called SUPERNESS! The more SUPERNESS! you have the better your character will perform in all areas! This also fixes that annoying problem of picking stats that share the same slots! All our problems will be solved with SUPERNESS!

That's it, I vote no stats. It'll be like when we were kids and pretended to be super heroes. We didn't have stats, we just made things up! If you wanted to kill a bad guy, you just punch him in his imaginary face and he dies, just because you wanted it to be like that.

No stats. Good deal.

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how many stats there are in the game.

Let's just reduce everything down to YOU ARE THE BLUE SQUARE. KILL THE RED SQUARE TO WIN GAME.

I think we should tie stats to costume colors. Red is the color of blood, so it will govern your CON stat. The more red you have on your costume, the higher your HP!

Squares have too many sides. Let's just be pixels. Hooray Labrynth reference!

(The old game, not the David Bowie-flaunting movie Labrynth.)

Better descriptions of both stats and powers is what is needed. Not an oversimplification. Hopefully, the upcoming clarifications and streamlining will go far to address this issue.

But then of course, if the Archetypes will be ultimately restrictive and have absolutely no choice whatsoever involved in the character advancement, Silver players won't have to worry about any of these issue will they?

Cheers!

What's really needed is for stats to do equally useful things.

Right now there are two stats (Ego, Rec) that depend on 2 other stats (Dex, End; respectively) to have any real or useful effect. Ego is particularly useless without Dex for having no method of taking advantage of that high crit severity (and don't try to tell me that increasing the energy gain from block somehow makes Ego not a throw-away stat), and Rec is particularly useless if your Rec exceeds your maximum End.

STR has marginal or negligible benefits. Typically no build needs more than 100 STR.

END is decent, but there's very little reason to super-stat it for most builds.

This leaves us with the 4 stats that actually have good effects: DEX, INT, CON, and PRE. For 3 of these (INT, CON, and PRE) there are no diminishing returns on their benefit and their impact on a build in high quantities is dramatic. With DEX, there are diminishing returns, but the increase in DPS with only gear for boosting EGO still has a very impressive impact, not to mention all the synergy thrown around in the MA sets with DEX after the melee pass.

When the changes to passive scaling being unlinked from specific stats goes through, there will be no reason for any build to not utilize 2 of DEX, INT, CON, or PRE as super-stats. Might as well get rid of the other 4.

TL;DR
I support this troll thread with logic and reasoning!

Too many dice! Roll one die. You get the number shown, the other guy gets to pick any of the numbers on the side. Too bad!
