View Full Version : No more new zones from now on?

I remember a few months ago when Vibora was coming out the devs were talking about only occasionally doing a new zone but if I read the FAQ correctly it seems to imply all the new content will be adventure pack only aside from revamping or adjusting current zones like possibly lowering Vibora's level range or making the zone bigger for example. Or am I just reading too much into it?

Adventure packs are great for teaming and all but no one in this game teams because its just too much of crawl to your leveling rate since most exp comes from mission complete not mob kill, or no rewards due to sharing mission, or the zone is level gated thanks to crisis thus stopping most side kicking. While adventure packs solve some of that the main issue is teaming makes missions take a lot longer and the far lower exp per mob rate doesn't overcome that so its just faster and easier to solo.

Personally I don't mind Adventure packs but having full zones gives more routes to level up and more places to explore to keep the grind from getting old. Having a few more zones to start in or the late teens/early 20s or late 20s/early 30s would really help a lot in my opinion. Not to mention get us to learn a lot more about lore and such. I don't mind if it's a once or twice a year thing but never having a new one bites.

Yep. CURRENT plans call for adventure packs and reworking what's there. As in the next 5-6 months. Because the current stuff needs it. Then when we get there, we'll see where we're at.

Eh thats not too bad then, 6 months or so would mean about a year after vibora to decide what to do for the next one after all the changes since. So this time or so next year possibly for a new zone but eh as long as some eventually get added I'm all for it especially if the zone revamps make it easier to team with PUGs

They made it pretty clear back in April that there weren't any plans for a new zone. I'd say it's also clear that there are still no plans for a new zone.

How we get from "no plans for a new zone" to "a possibility of a new zone in 6 months or a year", reminds me of that one scene in Dumb and Dumber:

"What are my chances?"

"Not good."

"... Not good like one out of 100?" *winces, gulps*

"Mmm, more like one out of a million."

"... ... so you're saying there's a chance!" *smiles*

Well they always state that "plans" only extend firmly about 6 months to a year out. So maybe after that, they'll decide they do want to do a new zone. We don't know. Neither do they.

True but they HAVE to be thinking about it now in some fashion after all if a new one is added will silver have to buy it or not? The features matrix just says zone access not new zones too.

Oh, I'm sure everyone on the team is *thinking* about things they want to do a year from now. No one's really working on it or even planning it though.

Yeah, I can't imagine them setting the schedule right now to do anything to huge outside og getting CO FtP, finishing off the AP that was already in production, and putting items in the C-Store. Once the dust settles I'd bet their plans get reevaluated. As far as a new zone, though, I wouldn't expect it in less than a year, but I'd love for them to prove me wrong.

So we aren't getting a new zone? What was all that "One in a million" talk then?

The answer was given back in June because this is a particular concern of mine & i have been banging-on about it for gawd knows how long. Cryptic were gracious enough to answer;

Future Zones
Mothers_Love:
Q: In the context of full sized zones akin to Canada or the desert that are much requested, my question is; " Will adventure packs based in a certain location mean we will not see those specific places from the Champions lore in the future as full-sized zones ? ".

A: Not at all. We've been choosing material for the Adventure Packs based on the stories we want to tell and what the players seem interested in. In the future, for example, you'll venture into Qliphoth and Multifaria. That wouldn't stop us from using those places in other Adventure Packs or as whole zones later on.

May be some time, but I'm sure new full-size zones will eventually arrive. They are essential to the game's development in my opinion.

When I played, I never teamed becuase my toon is tank, DPS, and healer all in one, and for the most part, a grind feast without scalable, instant missions. The only time I teamed is for 5-team missions because I had to do so to complete the mission, and Blood Moon.

I think Cryptic may expand the map, since it'll go F2P. I can easily vision expansion packs with new zones, and/or, if this works and the server population booms with silver players, Cryptic may expand upon existing zones to accommodate server population.
