No, the limitation was in opting in, not how long it would last.

I would like to know this as well. It was limited in the sense of when you could subscribe, not for how long. And we were told by Devs that after subscribing, it would last until we change it.

I'm looking into this now. We likely won't continue to offer it to folks who didn't choose it before, but I'm not sure about grandfathering you guys who are on the plan now.

I believe this is correct, yes. But, we're not opposed to doing discounts and pricing promotions related to Gold Membership. We've certainly done a few subscription promos in the past. We just don't have anything new planned.
