The Hero Games site lists Quasar as the leader of Unity and lists Mentiac as being in semi-retirement from hero'ing. Whaaaaaaa?!
How awesome would it be to have an actual player character be the leader of an established in-game SG....Maybe that's why Cryptic kept Mentiac as the leader....to tone down the awesomness of it all.

Who's Quasar?
As far as being awesome... Well, I know all about the agreements and all of that, but having my main become a part of Champions lore might not suit me if I think that they did my character wrong, or if I think that they are making real money off of my imagination. That they are using all of the players as not only unpaid labor, but people that are paying them to do their work for them.
On the other hand, having my character made into part of the official universe may be cool as long as I could at least have some input on who they are, and I were given credit as the creator/designer (and given a free copy of the product in which they are detailed... I haven't bought any Champions PnP stuff in a loooong time). :cool:

Quasar is the toon of one of the creators of Champions PnP, and as such he has written himself in to lore.

If you ever get a chance to check out the old, "To Serve and Protect," Champions PnP supplement Quasar's picture is awesome.

The Quasar who leads UNITY is not the same Quasar as the PC you're referring to. It's just the same name.

Here's my guess:
Cryptic didn't put the Champions PnP NPC named Quasar into Champions Online...because Quasar is the name of a Marvel character (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quasar_(comics)).
I have absolutely no evidence to back up this claim. But c'mon, it makes sense.

There's two Captain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Marvel_%28DC_Comics%29)Marvels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Marvel_%28Marvel_Comics%29), so I don't think that's the reason.

The Quasar in the official Champions Universe is not the really cool Quasar from the old supplement To Serve and Protect.
I know, I know... bummer, right?
But, for what it's worth, the TS&P Quasar is definitely flying about Champions Online. (And he's really wishing Cryptic would get their act together and balance that Force set!)

UNITY's Quasar. the ex-Dr. Destroyer lieutenant, is a pretty cool character. Not as cool as Scott's Quasar, but still pretty nifty. In addition to sharing his name with the Marvel character, I suspect he'd also be a challenge to depict with the current character sets (so that might explain his absence from CO).
I was under the impression that CO's Mentiac was a retired member who was serving in an advisory capacity. In any event, I don't think he was ever the leader: Archdruid was UNITY's leader prior to Quasar, retiring in 1995.
