View Full Version : Really low fps/performance when first entering an instance

Looking for ideas here...

Since the patch before last, when I go into an instance, my framerate drops from 40-60 down to 10-15. It takes almost two minutes of just sitting there before it corrects itself back up.

Like I said, it didn't use to be like this.

Also, it's not simply FPS, the entire game slows down. I can type in chat and actually outrun the appearance of what I'm typing. Windows open slower. Everything gets really choppy.

I have the latest nVidia drivers. I have a quad core CPU and dual GPU video card and 4Gb ram running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Any idea what causes the slowdown, and more importantly, ideas on how to fix it since it's nearly unplayable when I first join an instance.

Attach your DxDiag file and let's see what you've got.

It should be a powerful enough system. Some people have had problems with GeForce GTX 295s overheating, but that shouldn't cause the symptoms you describe.

Let's see if we can figure out what is slowing down for you. Download GPU-Z and run it, and see what happens to your temperatures and clock speeds. There's an option to have it log things in the background, so use that, play the game for a bit, enter an instance to cause the poor performance, and see what it does.

Try running Task Manager with the performance tab showing, entering an instance, and seeing what happens to core utilization and physical memory usage. Do the same with Task Manager at the Processes tab; GameClient.exe *32 should be the only one with meaningful CPU usage, but check to make sure that's what is happening.

I'd also try getting CPU-Z and having it show your CPU clock speeds. Enter an instance as before and see if the clock speeds change. It may well clock down while loading the instance, but should remain at the normal clock speed while inside it, during the periods of low performance that you're running into.

Anyway, report all of those results and let's see if something is amiss.
