Dex/Ego Martial Mentalist?

Bored as I usually am, I was thinking around about utilizing range with melee, as usual. I may be stuck at one point, but is it possible to mix martial arts with mentalist powers without screwing the stats up? It felt like a good idea, but I don't know where to even start calculating it up. Have it been tested before? I'm curious.

One option would be

DEX/PRE
Telepathic Reverb (I think it scales on PRE)
Ego Storm w/Mal. Manifestation adv
Mindful Reinforcement w/adv

Combine that with your MA single target stuff, and you should do pretty well. BCR also scales with PRE.

Telepathic Reverb allows Ego Storm to run energy-free.

As for Mindful Reinforcement, that depends on whether it suits your style. It puts a nice shield on you that gives either a heal or energy (if you have the adv) after 8s or when it gets knocked down. It also allows you to shield/heal others.

Assuming you have Pre SS and/or are hitting multiple targets. (I see you specified Pre in your post, I'm just emphasizing its importance!)

I tried a Dex/Ego telepathy toon, and there was never enough energy. Here's the build I tested. Never made it out of the Power House.

There's currently no good reason for Ego to be a suggested Mentalist SS -- at least for Telepathy. Telepathic Reverb does scale off of PRE, I have tested this. The difference with SS Pre is staggering. It turns Ego Stom into an energy builder, in fact.

Telepathic Reverb can also poc on the stun from Dragon Kick, if you're interested. Technically it's supposed to proc off of any hold or confuse power in the game, but it's a bit buggy sometimes -- for instance, Glossolallia on Soul Mez doesn't work so well with Telepathic Reverb, but it can be triggered...

I would also recommend DEX/PRE for this type of build, explicitly for the scaling of Telepathic Reverb. Interestingly enough, PRE also scales Thermal Reverb, if you're into Pyrokinesis. With the upcoming fix to Flashfire de-spawning on target death, this could be a very potent energy-building combination. Especially since Heat Wave should trigger Telepathic Reverb.

I aim too at a slender (and mostly unarmed) melee hero with a good healing touch.

Here's a build I tried quickly on PTS, in SL 1st bunker (VH). It went OK despite one low superstat bonus (20% instead of the usual 30%, this due to PREless items). No surprise with Devour Essence and a defensive passive.

So 1 power and 7 adv. points left. Could go for a hold or an active defense. As it is the last power, it's good for cheap retcon to suit the agenda (solo/team PVE, PVP...).

The stealth-granting / threat-wiping advantages for Palliate and Evasive Maneuvers are tempting but can be troublesome. Not sure if I'll go for these or ranks up.

Devour Essence does benefit from the MA form bonus but not from the Rush buff. It triggers Elusive Monk.

BLEED VARIANT
Vile Lariat w/ adv. instead of Ego Blast + DE adv. instead of rank 3 + Pounce or Mighty Leap w/ CC instead of TBL (to avoid redundant roots ?).

DE would hurt less but heal much more. Yet to try if that's a worthy deal.


Maybe Maci you'll give it a try ;) Anyway inputs welcomed.


PS @Empyreal10: I did not manage to get Telepathic Reverb from the Dragon Kick stun. Is it a reliable combo from your experience ? I tried with staying still after the stun and also following it with Ego blasts.

Something I just came up with that can solo PH mobs on hard for 5, in guardian and support. Ego Storm can literally do most of the work while you turtle if you want. Just run in, toggle on Ego Storm, Flashfire, then unload Chi Fists, and toggle off Ego Storm before it ends so the cooldown doesnt start. If you dropped the Fire requirement Id sub in Dragon Kick rank3 for the Rush buff instead and clickie dmg buff for breaking mezzes. Also makes a fantastic support too!
