Cryptic Launcher Autoupdate - Stuck

I've been trying to update for the last 3 hours now and nothing has happened.. I get we need to be patient (says so right in the small window) but 3 hours without anything happening?
Running it via Steam (used the link found in the forum to activate the demo account status already) on windows 7 - 64 bit version, i7 920 core, ATI Radeon 5800 series card and 8 gb ram..

Any and all help would be appriciated, thoughts and theories as well.

Yeah I am having the exact same problem. I downloaded the demo trial via Atari and after installing it I got the 'Trying to Update Launcher Please Be Patient' I pondered off to do some errands and play some xbox...about 3 hours ago and nothing?!

Is there something wrong or do I need to install something else to make this work? Noobie needs to play now?!

Ok now I am through and downloading the patches...didnt do anything to fix it myself...but its working for me or so it seems!

Did the Update thing go through immediatly? Or did you still have to wait a whiile?

I don't even get the option to patch. It just tries to load the updater, asks me to be patient. Then it sits there till it times out. It takes so long to get to that point, that I often forget about it till it pops up.

Same here Dia, it just sits there.. taunting me..
I wish there was something that blinked or just.. anything really to indicate that whatever it was trying to do was still active and it hadn't silently crashed or something.

I have ZERO problems with any other game. Doesn't matter if it's WoW, LotR, Warhammer, or other games that need internet access for DLC and whatnot. The worst it does it pop up the option to Allow-Block the attempt and then I go from there. In this case? Nada. Seems like others have had this problem as well, whether it's Steam or standalone too, for months now. Looks like I might be canceling. ugh.

Hmm, well mine just went through.. Only advice i guess i can give is restart the damn thing ever hour.

If I have to let it try to connect for an hour+ every time I want it to run, then forget about it. Need to find a number to call them up and get a refund for the play time I was unable to access due to their screwed up updater.

I closed the update thingy majigger then opened it up again and this time it said something like '1 Attempt to Connect' it loaded then disappeared reappeared and then I was onto the login screen logged in and now I am downloading patches!

I'm having to download the whole thing via the patcher/updater directly from Cryptic instead of using Steam.. But, the problem is, is that not only is it an insanely slow download, but also I have re-download the whole thing. Also, it still doesn't assure me access to the game either once it's done. At the rate it's downloading, I figure it'll be done downloading, sometime tomorrow, which is sad, coming from someone with a fairly fast cable isp package. 4.4GB shouldn't take about 30 hours to download, but it appears that's about what it'll take.
